Welcome[edit]

Hello, Davidhar, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. To start creating a draft article, just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit that page as you would any other. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. It is also worth noting that Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which specifically link them to one company or corporation. If your username does have such a name, it would be advisable for you to request a change of username.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mtking (edits) 19:26, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please declare what, if any connection you have to University at Buffalo, The State University of New York ? Mtking (edits) 19:40, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

None, why?

Funny that, your uploads to commons would seam to say other wise. Mtking (edits) 21:28, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've taken pictures for UB, I don't see that as a conflict of interest.

You claim to be a student Mtking (edits) 00:24, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you need to know these things? I don't have to reveal any personal information if I don't want to.

If you are a student, ex-student, or possible future student that gives you a clear conflict of interest and you should keep well clear of the article. Mtking (edits) 01:13, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Nonsense. If he has a conflict of interest then he should certainly be careful in editing the article but that is no reason to "keep well clear of the article." The very link you used for this section - WP:COI - says as much.
With that said, it would be good if you were clear about any potential or real conflicts of interest, David. Transparency is extremely important in this large and diverse community of people because we rarely meet and have to be very intentional about building and maintaining trust. ElKevbo (talk) 03:42, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits[edit]

Hello, I'm Hjarvis. I work in UB's marketing office, and can authoritatively state that "Buffalo University" is not our name [1], nor does it show up commonly (if ever) in search returns or in casual conversation. There are many colleges and universities in Buffalo and that name just doesn't make any sense. Not trying to provoke or prolong an edit war, but I am also puzzled why anyone ever suggested it belonged on the page. Please help keep it off the page -- it's just wrong. Thanks! Hjarvis (talk) 16:53, 5 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 01:12, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You should be aware of the three revert rule, you have breached it on University at Buffalo, The State University of New York and request that you revet your last edits to this version, thus avoiding a report. Mtking (edits) 03:31, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I was editing my own reverts.

Your submission at Articles for creation[edit]

You recently made a submission to Articles for Creation. Your article has been reviewed and because some issues were found, it could not be accepted in its current form; it is now located at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/UB Blue. Please view your submission to see the comments left by the reviewer. Feel free to edit the submission to address the issues raised, and resubmit once you feel they have been resolved. (You can do this by adding the text {{subst:AFC submission/submit}} to the top of the article.) Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia! Mtking (edits) 20:01, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
WP only has articles on notable subjects, to test if a topic is notable, there is a guideline, in it, it sates that "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article". So unless you can show that "UB Blue" as a colour has received coverage outside of the Uni, then as a subject it does not warrant a stand-alone article. File permission problem with File:Parkerhallubsouthcampus.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Parkerhallubsouthcampus.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Copyright[edit]

Please do not waste your time and ours uploading images with incompatible licences. As to buildings: go out and take your own photographs and upload them to the Commons. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 18:34, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to add to that, your constant uploads both here and at Commons of copyright images so as to beautify the article of the uni you attend (University at Buffalo, The State University of New York) are disruptive and if they continue are very likely to see you blocked. Should you wish to follow the advice of RHaworth and upload photos taken yourself, please make sure that they are relevant to the article and that you check at the talk page first that a clear consensus exists for there use BEFORE adding them to the article. Mtking (edits) 19:31, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I actually have taken my own photos and have, in fact, placed them onto the page. They were taken off and deleted by Mtking for no apparent reason. And this time, it was a mistake. I thought all rights reserved meant that I can put them up. Simple misunderstanding. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidhar (talkcontribs) 22:07, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Clearly you have forgotten, they were deleted from Commons because they were marked copyright to the university they may have been taken by you, but you were acting for the university at the time. Mtking (edits) 08:14, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm actually not talking about those. I took pictures that were clearly MINE and placed them on the page in May of 2011. You not only took them off the page, but you deleted them without reason.

Seal vs Crest[edit]

I have restored the long-standing seal, as this change will result in the file File:University at Buffalo The State University of New York seal.png probably being deleted as an orphan fair use, this change needs to be agreed at the talk page. Mtking (edits) 22:21, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You have no right to delete it. Go to the talk page on the UNIVERSITY. Please refrain from going to my own talk page.

I was taking the time to explain why I reverted your change, it is a long-standing WP policy to delete any copyright file that is not used on an article, so before a file which has been used since 2007 is deleted, it needs to be clear that there is consensus to change it. Mtking (edits) 22:39, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Official UB crest.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Official UB crest.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Mtking (edits) 22:50, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

December 2011[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on University at Buffalo, The State University of New York. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.
You are edit warring over this, there is an ongoing talk page discussion about it, Please revert your last change.
Mtking (edits) 02:35, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

And you are editing it without proper consent. Davidhar (talk) 02:36, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The onus is on you to obtain consensus for your edit, you started that process by posting to the talk page, that needs to continue before you make the change. Mtking (edits) 02:39, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean by "consent" ? Mtking (edits) 02:40, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please can you answer this ? Mtking (edits) 22:09, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:University at buffalo crest.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Mtking (edits) 02:42, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The addition of the the crest as a stand alone image should be reverted, as it fails two parts of the WP:NFCC (3a, and 8. Please revert it and discuss it at the talk page. Mtking (edits) 21:22, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WP:COI @ University at Buffalo, The State University of New York[edit]

Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi. In University at Buffalo College of Arts & Sciences, you recently added a link to the disambiguation page English (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 11:27, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you created this article a few days ago; however it does not as yet appear to address the Wikipedia:College and university article guidelines, specifically how is it "especially notable or significant"; because if it is not, it should not have it's own article. Please try and avoid the WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS arguments for why it should have it's own article. Mtking (edits) 23:59, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article University at Buffalo College of Arts & Sciences is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/University at Buffalo College of Arts & Sciences until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Mtking (edits) 04:01, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Response to your request for assistance[edit]

Hi, Davidhar, I merged the deleted article into the main article so all of that material would be preserved. My suggestion is that you familiarize yourself with the rules of notability and using references that establish notability. See here: Notability.

You are obviously under the microscope now so your best bet is to strictly adhere to the standards and if you need assistance you should ask for someone (more experienced than I am) to mentor or assist you. You can always ask for assistance here: Administrator's Noticeboard.

Good luck! - HiMyNameIsFrancesca (talk) 22:28, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop. Continuing to remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, may be considered disruptive editing. Personal Notes[edit]

User: Anna_Frodesiak

Article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/University_at_Buffalo_School_of_Management

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:DragonflySixtyseven

I thought it might help, if I gave you some pointers to the types of sources that would be required to demonstrate that the School of Management meets the criteria for it's own article.

First they need to be from a independent source, so that would not be anything from :

  1. the School of Management
  2. the University including the University Historical Society ;
  3. the State University of New York (SUNY);
  4. the Governor of New York;
  5. any branch of the Government of New York;

Secondly they need to be from reliable sources, sources know for there accuracy, for example Blogs and other self published works would not be considered reliable.

Finally the sources need to demonstrate "Significant coverage" that is the sources address the subject directly in detail, this is more than a trivial mention but it need not be the main topic of the source material. So sources relating to ranking tables are not likely to cover this point.

Hope this helps.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on SUNY Model European Union requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organized event (tour, function, meeting, party, etc.), but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. DGG ( talk ) 08:58, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Davidhar. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Bisonhead".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Conflict re: Maintaining Bill Greiner's Photo in Notable Alumni/Faculty Section in UB Article[edit]

University at Buffalo & William Greiner[edit]

Please do not re-edit over and over the University at Buffalo alumni sub-section, including replacing Terry Gross with Bill Greiner. Your recent edits both on the University's wikipedia and on William Greiner's suggests a conflict of interest and I would advise to not edit wikipedia pages with respect to Bill Greiner if this is the case (per WP codes). Terry Gross, the original alumnus who was replaced by Bill is surely more notable on the national and international levels. Thank you. Davidhar (talk) 04:01, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Davidhar, You are mistaken. First of all, you do not own any articles, nor have any authority in telling me what to do or how to edit. Second of all, I did not replace Terry Gross, nor did I realize or know that Terry Gross had been in that section. Terry Gross had already been deleted by someone else when I added Bill Greiner, and then re-added him again after you deleted him. I believe it is you who are in conflict. Please do not jump to conclusions before going back through all the edits to confirm this. Once you do that, you will see that I did not "replace" anyone. I only added Bill, and it was you who deleted him. Why did you delete him, reverting my two edits/additions of him? This is something that should be discussed on the talk page. The former president of UB who worked there for 42 years, who was president for 13 years, who made many advancements for the university, and who brought the school back to Division I, I believe is noteworthy enough for his photograph to be reflected in the notable alumni and faculty section. I am moving this discussion to the article's talk page. Daniellagreen (talk) 14:48, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Davidhar, Again, I think your assumptions with regard to what I had attempted to achieve in contributing my images to the article are incorrect. Instead of complaining and continuing an argument that is going nowhere, I challenge you to take and upload photos of some UB sports teams to the athletics section of this article. My perspective is that some photos are better than none. Having not had any photos in that section prior to my contributions creates a reflection on the article that athletics are unimportant at UB. While most of my text contributions to this overall article have been maintained, you deleted 2/3 of my photo contributions. So, I challenge you to replace them with updated and current photos since I am on the other side of the country and it would not be feasible for me to do so, otherwise I would. You have taken a leadership role with this article, and I challenge you to uphold it by improving and enhancing it with more updated photos than what I contributed. If you do not, then it would be obvious that a conflict about it may be preferred by you rather than compromise. Having had no images in the athletics section, in my opinion and prior to my image contributions, made it a section that was lacking in quality and which needed enhancement. That is where I'm coming from, and I challenge you to take charge and make it better. Daniellagreen (talk) 20:11, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, Davidhar. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

A tag has been placed on Allan Gerson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. University of Toronto[edit]

Thanks again for starting the merge of campuses. I'm not up to the job, but I totally agree it's worth doing. It would need a plan, and I'd hate to see someone's hard work get deleted by some other editor who complained because there wasn't consensus from the start. I'd try the university work group on the article's talk page. Someone there may have good advise. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 19:34, 25 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. Can I suggest you propose a merger on the U of T article? Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 04:41, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I stated in the talk that I've rescinded my proposition to form a merger. Instead, I'd like to keep the UTM and UTSC campus articles, in addition to revising the U of T article to represent the entire University. At present, the wikipedia leaves out roughly half of the entire U of T population...and that's inaccurate and inappropriate by wikipedia standards. While the U of T isn't a University system (like I've said repeatedly), even if it were treated as a university system, all university systems have one single comprehensive article (University of London, University of Massachusetts, State University of New York, University of California, etc.). Do you see my point? Davidhar (talk) 04:52, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

University of/at/whatever Buffalo[edit]

Why are you removing any mention of other names currently used, names formerly used, or abbreviations used in the very article you are editing? In your most recent edit, you removed this sentence: "It is commonly referred to as the University at Buffalo (abbreviated UB) and was formerly known as the University of Buffalo." Not only does that remove an abbreviation used throughout the university's documents, other reliable sources, and the article itself but it also removes a historical name that is detailed in the article. More confusing is that you removed that sentence while using the edit summary "the 'University at Buffalo' name is still commonly used, bring it up in the talk if you still have issue. You're promoting an edit war." which is exactly what the sentence says!

Please explain your bizarre insistence that the article lead not have the commonly used name, formerly used name, and abbreviation in the lead like every other article does. And explain why you're making edits that directly contradict your own statements. ElKevbo (talk) 16:24, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, you edited the page using the title "Buffalo University, The State University of New York at Buffalo"....show me a source that says that...cuz in my view, that is the most idiotic and redundant name ever created for a university, and as a student, have never seen that in any publication, document, apparel, etc. Secondly, the differentiation between the "University at Buffalo" and the "University of Buffalo" is marginal at best. Stating the difference, in my opinion, is not needed and is again redundant. This is my opinion of course. For your sake however, you edited the first sentecne without consensus from wikipedia editors beforehand. And that's the main problem I have with your edits. Davidhar (talk) 19:28, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You haven't explained why your actions and your stated reasons are in direct contradiction. I didn't name the article or the university (which does appear to have that as its full, legal name whether you've heard of it or not). And we don't require editors to get consensus before making edits.
I'll take this to the article's Talk page where you can explain to everyone why you think the lead of this article shouldn't introduce the prominent alternate names of this subject, its prominent historic name, and the abbreviation used throughout the article. ElKevbo (talk) 19:46, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Please do. Davidhar (talk) 19:52, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Let me throw my two cents in. As an employee of the university system, I was "strongly encouraged" to use "University AT Buffalo", since it's the State University of New York AT Buffalo. Buffalo does not have a university of it's own. The use "of" and "at" have completely different meanings last I checked. Here's my nickel to including "at" as a current usage, and "of" as a previous use, which is the way I've understood it since I was informed of the correct usage of University "at" Buffalo.
--Allamericanbear (talk) 20:40, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, someone's adding more common names again for UB. They wrote that "Other names like 'Buffalo University', 'UBuffalo' and 'UBuff' are also commonly seen." This is not true. "University OF Buffalo" is mistakenly used... that's the only common name. We DO use a hash tag of UBuffalo... but not in normal human speech. Since Buffalo has several universities, 'Buffalo University' is NOT misapplied, and I have never heard anyone refer to UBuff. Someone is making those up. Can you help..? Or advise what else we can do to reign this nonsense in..? Thanks. Hjarvis (talk) 15:03, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The article Pete Augustine has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one.
