Star Wars Battlefront[edit]

  • I agree. You worded it much better than I was able to. Riffsyphon1024 02:21, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)
    • Thanks. I had the manual with me. -LtNOWIS 03:33, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Michael Vaughn's birthplace[edit]

I stand corrected, though if France hasn't actually been mentioned in an episode, it might be worth noting the source for the information, since it's always possible a future episode might contradict it. (I don't know what Abram's standing is re:canon; Star Trek, for example, discounts everything that isn't mentioned on screen, even official profiles. According to the official profile for Jack Bristow, he was born in Canada, but I don't think this has ever been confirmed on screen, either. 23skidoo 04:20, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)

GRider and the Great LucasCruft Purge[edit]

Might I ask what the hell could GRider be doing by making all of these articles Vfds. I can agree that some could be merged, but others like the Repulsorlift article that I created, should not suffer the wave of Vfd that he has been applying. This is utter nonsense, and its forces me to defend all SW articles like I'm Everyking with his little Ashlee Simpson fetish. Comments? -- Riffsyphon1024 03:18, Mar 10, 2005 (UTC)

Well, you could talk to him. I don't know why he wants to nominate all these at once, instead of only a couple. But I guess we have little choice but to go to VfD and do a search of all instances of "Star Wars" on the page, and plead their cases. Is there a guideline/rule regarding someone's deletion requests per topic per day? If not, there should be. You could complain to an administrater about his completely unfair methods, but I'm content to just thwart them. I'll contact Shadowtrooper, and let him know the situation.-LtNOWIS 03:29, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The Star Wars Wiki is now up and running at [Removed Wikicities link OCT 2013]. -- Riffsyphon1024 11:06, Mar 10, 2005 (UTC)

    • I dunno. I'd really like to preserve the interlinkability and quality of having Star Wars stuff on Wikipedia. Like when you research the LAAT and there's a link to helicopter gunship. I guess we could use mirroring a lot. We'd be allowed to copy content back and forth freely, right?-LtNOWIS 16:35, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)
      • Supposedly, but all the minor stuff that is being Vfd'd in the Great Lucascruft Purge needs to be transwikied to the Wookieepedia. -- Riffsyphon1024 05:50, Mar 12, 2005 (UTC)

VfD[edit]

Hi LtNOWIS,

Please don't take down the VfD header from an article (Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Trade Federation PAC) while it's still being debated.

Cheers, dbenbenn | talk 18:02, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC). (P.S. I grew up in Reston!)

  • And now its gone. I wanted this to be transwikied to the Star Wars Wiki [Removed Wikicities link OCT 2013]. -- Riffsyphon1024 22:20, Mar 13, 2005 (UTC)
  • Sorry, I thought the debating was done. How long does it usually last for, like a week? 10 days?-LtNOWIS 16:35, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)
    • It doesn't matter now. The admin temporarily reinstated it so I could copy the text and repost it at SWW. He doesn't like them to redirect however. He explained that the list of vehicles would be the place to direct to these articles at SWW. -- Riffsyphon1024 17:19, Mar 14, 2005 (UTC)

Mace Windu's death[edit]

Hey, Nowis! I've read your comments on the aformentioned articles. Please explain your thinking more to me, as your definately have more experience than I. If necessary, I'll add a description for every ship: it's condensed history, commander, accomplishments, famous battles it was at, and where it was destroyed.

Thanks,

Stub placement[edit]

Hi there,

Tank you for your work stubsorting. I just wanted to tell you that it is customary to place the stug tagged at the bottom on the page, usually underneath the categories and the other languages, not in the body of the article unless its an expand section tag. Redirect of BlasTech[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on BlasTech, by Schutz (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because BlasTech is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting BlasTech, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 21:04, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is indisputable the U.S. victory in other battles of the U.S.-Mexican war, but in the Buena Vista battle the U.S. victory is not quite credible and questionable. A tag has been placed on Native Americans in Virginia, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to a nonexistent page.

If you can fix this redirect to point to an existing Wikipedia page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. Overwritten edit[edit]

Sorry, just realised that I overwrote your warning on User talk:95.116.166.248, I noticed that you had added {{uw-redirect1}} and I just thought I'd explain why I added {{uw-redirect3}}: the IP had previously reverted a revert of the page to remove their vandalism and it was obviously bad faith against the featured article for today, thanks. --Searle, L. (talk) 09:20, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Tim bridgewater requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you.  Frank  |  talk  16:16, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • I don't think this notice was really necessary, seeing as how I didn't write the article. But, no worries. -LtNOWIS (talk) 16:18, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer permission[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 14:57, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just letting you know that your edit of the above article this morning went wrong. AIV and a question[edit]

Thanks for the AIV report on 75.93.198.139 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log). On the subject of number changing, this is something I see a lot when huggling. Do you have any advice or techniques for identifying number-changing vandalism and distinguishing it from legitimate edits? I often find plausible-looking number changing edits by IPs, such as changing the population of a city, and find myself wondering what is the best way to handle it. --causa sui (talk) 22:07, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • In this case, these two edits. I knew they were wrong based on knowledge of the singer, but even if I didn't, the new quote wouldn't make any sense, and it's a big change. So the edit was definitely suspicious enough that I would recommend checking the reference, which is linked right there. If it wasn't hyperlinked, than checking the Taylor Swift article would be really easy. Changing a direct quote is automatically suspect. The vandal's other edits were mostly the release dates of past albums and birthdates, which again are automatically suspect, because those figures should never change. Populations and sales figures are a bit trickier than that, but common sense helps. Ridiculous numbers or big changes should stand out. Checking the citation or the rest of the article helps. If an uncited number gets changed from one thing to another, then it was never really verifiable in the first place, and you can add a {{Cite}} tag. For some things, like for me sports statistics, it's easiest to accept that you have no idea what the numbers mean, and defer to editors with more knowledge in the field. -LtNOWIS (talk) 23:14, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I made some removals after investigation. Please have a look at what I have left and let me know if you think it is now npov and not undue, thanks - Youreallycan (talk) 20:11, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you, I think it's a lot more balanced now. -LtNOWIS (talk) 18:14, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • Hi again - there has been some more of a similar pattern of undue weight additions to the Ellen Corbett article. As you are more local would you have a look at the recent edit history of this BLP and let me know what you think, the article is now semi protected for a little while - regards - Youreallycan 20:59, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • You made the right call in simply reverting those edits. SPAs using biography articles as political attack pages is pretty much a textbook case of POV-pushing, even it it wasn't a BLP article. The word choice in those edits was simply egregious, with the bill being "gutted" and taxpayers being "shocked." But I think the POV and sourcing issues were secondary to the fact that it was a clear case of WP:SYNTH. There's no source that connects Corbett with Solyndra, but the editor draws these separate threads together to create a narrative. That would be great for a blog or newspaper, but we don't do original research here. So yeah, you made the right call. Let me know if you ever need me to look at it again. -LtNOWIS (talk) 02:29, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • Or rather, there is a source that indirectly connects Corbett with Solyndra, but the stuff about the one bill's language going into another bill is all OR. -LtNOWIS (talk) 02:37, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article Feedback Tool update[edit]

Hey LtNOWIS. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:42, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

An exciting month of wiki events![edit]

Hello there,

I am pleased to say that April will be a very exciting month for Wikipedia in Washington, DC. We have a lot of different events coming up, so you will have a lot to choose from.

Coming up in April, we have our first-ever Open Government WikiHack with the Sunlight Foundation on April 5–6! On Friday, April 11 we are having our first edit-a-thon ever with the Library of Congress. The Africa Collection Edit-a-Thon will focus on the Library's African and Middle East Reading Room. It'll be early in the morning, but it's especially worth it if you're interested in improving Wikipedia's coverage of African topics.

The following day, we are having our second annual Wiki Loves Capitol Hill training. We will discuss policy issues relevant to Wikimedia and plan for our day of outreach to Congressional staffers that will take place during the following week.

There are other meetups in the works, so be sure to check our meetup page with the latest. I hope to see you at some of these events!

Wikipedia and YOUR History: Taking Control of the Internet[edit]

Come one and come all. To a presentation at the Laurel Historical Society about how you can help verify, validate, and edit the information that is on the front line of local history.

Picture your self leading the masses to improve Wikimedia one article at a time.
  • Show the Internet who is the better editor.
  • Be the creator of culture that you know you are.
  • Spread the knowledge of noteworthy people who no one but you cares about.
  • Lead the charge to a better Wikipedia --- eventually.

Wikimedia DC invites revolutionaries, free thinkers, and other sundry editors to a DC WikiSalon[edit]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Autopatrolled granted[edit]

Hi LtNOWIS, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Chetsford (talk) 03:35, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for November 4[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of freshman class members of the 117th United States Congress, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Doug Jones. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:27, 4 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Hung Cao has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Of the 21 sources, 9 are either Hung Cao's social media accounts, election results pages, or an editorial he wrote. Most of the other sources are routine coverage that would be expected for any candidate in a competitive district. Doesn't seem to satisfy WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
