As a member of the Socialist Party (Socialistische Partij) she was an MP between 30 November 2006 and 23 March 2017.[2] She focused on matters of economic affairs, asylum and immigration policy, and judiciary.

From April till December 2006 she was a member of the municipal council of Haarlem.[2]

In 2018 she left the Socialist Party in favor of GreenLeft because she didn't agree with the party's stance on migration.[3]
