Description

First of Henry Holiday's original ilustrations to "The Hunting of the Snark" by Lewis Carroll.

This illustrates the opening of "Fit the First": The Landing.

"Just the place for a Snark!" the Bellman cried,
    As he landed his crew with care;
Supporting each man on the top of the tide
    By a finger entwined in his hair.

This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 70 years or fewer.
