English: Approval for a new power station near Biloela was given in 1962 and work commenced in February 1963. Testing of the steam turbines commenced in July 1965, although drought reduced the output. It was formally opened by the Premier of Queensland on 21 August.
It was known simply as Callide Power Station. When Callide B Power Station opened in 1988, the original station became Callide A.
