Merge ?

I was looking to flesh out this article a bit more and I noticed a hell of a lot of redundancy in this article and in the articles regarding net.art and digital art, as well as other art types discussed here.
I'm fairly new to wikipedia, but is there any sort of organizational utilities to help create a hierarchy of definition. Define relations between the types of arts, and get more specific about the types of arts when needed. What differentiates net.art, digital art, computer art, internet art, etc?

Rhisome and new media history

   I am neither the author of the following text, nor the editor who placed it on this talk page, tho i have tweaked the formatting. The preceding talk-contrib < Freshacconci > placed it on this page (outside the scope of any sig) but failed to make it immediately apparent that it is not a comment on the accompanying article. (Surely Fresh... meant, by "this text", the following -- but it is i who has "tamed" its included refs by affixing here the {{refs}} call that clarity begs for:)

The term "new media" originated in the world of mass media and advertising in the early 1990s to refer to computer networks and the internet as channels for distributing content, outside traditional channels of print and broadcast media. Correspondingly, the term new media art was employed around the same time to refer to works using digital and networked technologies. Over time, the term new media art has become more inclusive, but confusion between the differing uses of the term "new media" in the worlds of advertising and art remains. The history of Rhizome (organization) illustrates this shift well. The organization was founded in 1996 as a discussion platform for artists working on the internet, but as itgrew it came to recognize, support, and preserve art that engaged technology but was not necessarily internet-based. In 2007, Rhizome modified the wording of its mission statement, removing the phrase "new media art" and replacing it with "emerging artistic practices that engage technology."

   Six months later, two colleagues reverted from this spot, promptly, in quick succession, and without invoking WP:VAND, two brief unsigned comments by one IP; IMO those comments deserved no response(s), but they hardly constituted clear vandalism. Anyone further concerned about the reversions will IMO be supported as adequately as is feasible in informing their own opinions by the hist excerpt this link provides.

Move to Media arts

New Media is the accepted term in visual arts. "Media" refers to any medium an artist works with. freshacconci talktalk 14:55, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

List of New Media Artists

Why is the list so short? Is there a hierarchy being used in order to determine who is or is not appropriate for the list? Anyone mind if I add a few more notable artists to the list? Ecnal24 (talk) 00:26, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

I believe Charlotte Moorman would be a good addition to this list since she was a key collaborator to Nam June Paik, although her medium was the cello and performance - she collaborated on the electronic sculptures that Paik made. Jaredckelley (talk) 15:54, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

Recent deletions from list

An IP has unilaterally decided that a couple of dozen artists listed on this page are not significant and their presence indicated "self-promotion". This has been reverted by two editors now. Obviously I don't want to give to much credence to this sort of thing but it should be mentioned here as I'm sure they will be back again. Technological determinism...

This article really suffers from technological determinism, eg. "The origins of new media art can be traced to the moving photographic inventions of the late 19th century such as .... and "During the 1960s the development of then new technologies of video produced the new media art experiments of ...
