Japanese cinema task force

Being as you broached the subject during the Core discussion, is this a task force you'd be interested in? If so, would you like to propose it at WT:FILM? Since task forces are generally created by member interest, I'd be happy to create it if you can find a small handful of other members interested in Japanese cinema. (Also, any chance of continuing the other discussion at Core? :)) Stay well, Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 06:56, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I placed Kim Ki-young on hold. You can see my comments here. Cheers, Kakofonous (talk) 00:14, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Great! Sounds good. Tell me if you have any further questions. Kakofonous (talk) 21:56, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Congratulation! Your achievement sheds a bright light on our task force. You made it!--Appletrees (talk) 00:40, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry

about this[1]. --Cheeser1 (talk) 02:11, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mainstream Japanese Media

"However, mainstream Japanese media is notoriously difficult to gain access to unless you are in Japan."

Why is that? How much of a presence do they have on the internet? How does the Japanese version of wikipedia cite things to their mainstream media? Vinh1313 (talk) 22:33, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I mean Japanese print and broadcast media. There are dozens of fairly mainstream, weekly magazines you see on every newsstand in the country-- not Porn magazines hidden away in Adults only shops as in the U.S.-- which cover these subjects, and not only photo layouts, news items. We get a tantalizing, very small glimpse of it occasionally HERE, especially in the Waiwai section. (Note, Mainichi Shimbun is one of the largest, mainstream papers in Japan.) Also, these models often appear on mainstream TV shows-- talk shows, even dramas. "It is not uncommon in Japan for a waning female television star or singer to feature in pornographic videos. Similarly, there are women actors from pornographic videos who move into daytime television."[2] However, these magazines and these TV programs do not have an Internet presence to allow the searching of back issues or old cast listings. Dekkappai (talk) 22:53, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And Japanese Wikipedia is very sourcing-impoverished, at least on these subjects, unfortunately. Dekkappai (talk) 23:49, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • About the Yuki Asaka article and other notability-questioned articles, I'm wondering if you can find more coverage using the japanese version of news.google.com (I'm assuming that you know Japanese). In America, when people appear in mainstream television or magazines, the newspapers report on that also. I wouldn't use AVN reviews to try to establish international notability. AVN has some serious conflict of interests issues with their reviews since they happen to review movies that they also sell advertisements to. This includes the JAV movies distributed here in America. Vinh1313 (talk) 02:44, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's the frustrating thing-- it's very hard to find archives of Japanese news/magazine articles comparable to those that can be found in English. (My Japanese is pretty shaky-- picked up from living around Japanese-speakers as a kid, my own reading/study, and visiting the country a few times as an adult.) I've added a copy of an article from a Yokohama news source, but that is saved in a less-reliable news source. The original source no longer has it at their site... Neither does the Mainichi one apparently. An AvN review may not be proof of notability, but, obviously, for a Japanese subject, it's proof of appearance in an internationally-available video. I'd be happy to let those images go, to be honest. You generally only need one or two screenshots in a film article to illustrate the plot summary, so I think three is a bit much, and as someone who hasn't seen the film they don't tell me much about it. Even the alternate film poster isn't much use without knowing where it's from. I've already uploaded a fresh poster with a proper rationale for use in the infobox, but I think you would be best finding a new screenshot which is in some way relevant to the plot of the film. PC78 (talk) 00:52, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure I'll get around to it sooner or later with all the SK films I watch! :) I hope you can do something with the article though, because it looks a bit messy at the moment. A shame to think that it's (supposedly) one of our "best" film articles. PC78 (talk) 01:07, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There seem to be quite a few reviews for Spider Forest (some of which are already cited in the article), enough to write a fairly decent "Reception" section I would think. The main problem with the article is that it's all bullet points - the whole thing needs converting into prose. I haven't yet seen any of Song Il-gon's films, but his next project sounds interesting. :) PC78 (talk) 01:08, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:

I didn't watch the movie throughly because the subject is not interesting to me. Maybe the Japanese anon and Opoona (talk · contribs) know? I guess not. The paragraph is written by just somebody who watched the movie, but not a critic and reporter with credibility, so the content should be taken out from the article i think. --Appletrees (talk) 19:17, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Choi Seung-hee

Hi, Dekkappai, long time no see. Thank you for your contribution to the article. I've always thought of creating the article myself because she is a very very important figure in the whole history of Korean dance. As for the photo, I don't know the copyright status, because we don't know who is the photographer. --Appletrees (talk) 23:02, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know his past persistent vandalism [3][4][5] and he usually gives the vandalism warning sign to whom disagree with his edit, so my calling him as such is very appropriate compared to his old and usual habit. In addition, she was so famous dancer and left a big step in the field that I believe he knew what exactly he was doing. He knows well about Korea and can read Korean, so such the bad faith is not tolerable to me. --Appletrees (talk) 23:20, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Documentary films about the subject of an article should go under "Films." You could also put it in bibliography, but that is for print works. Badagnani (talk) 23:23, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I should see the documentary film. :-) --Appletrees (talk) 23:28, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anna May Wong

That's great Dekkappai! That should improve things, but please note my comments to EraserGirl regarding Bzuk who promises some rewriting. In my experience he is an excellent editor, and his contributions in addition to your own will benefit the article considerably. --Red Sunset 20:12, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anna May Wong pt 2

Thanks! Sorry I missed your edit; Im dealing with a troll on the Rudolph Valentino page and he was blasting my talk page left and right so I never noticed your message. Yeah I couldnt figure the link thing out either; it was weird because it let me do the whole edit (which had that site on it) but then wouldnt let me fix the broken tag saying the site was no good! I dont care if it goes because it was my 'back up source' (the Times article was the main one) but Id been editing for 5 hours and gave up LOL! I know books are better for sourcing I just dont have one on her yet; however I did order it so Im hoping to add more info one day. Thanks for your help! --Thegingerone (talk) 01:39, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More wong stuff

Dekkappai, just to allay your apprehensions, I intend to work with you and others to make the article as good as it gets! Have a wonderful holiday; I am writing myself from Mazatlan, sneaking some few moments away from sea and sand. FWIW Bzuk (talk) 01:46, 22 March 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Since coming to WickyWacky land, I have developed a crocodile-like hide and I have no abiding interest in stepping on toes. I merely assist in the process of editing, using the very little bit of knowledge I have amassed as a librarian, and now, after entering the nether world of writing and editing, a bit of the literary and film world. FWIW Bzuk (talk) 21:18, 22 March 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Hi, Dekkappai, thank you for your information, however I don't know about the products and Badagnani seems to have more question. So, I copied your answers to his talk page. If he asks more, his talk page is better than mine (I'm often started at the orange bar :-) ) --Appletrees (talk) 14:36, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can I ask you a favor?

Hi, Dekkappai, Appletrees again. I currently try to rewrite Joseon white porcelain because almost all contents "were" in turn plagiarism by the creator, so I deleted them except the intro. The article seemed a good summary on the subject, so I want to paraphrase the contents, but with my limited writing ability, it seems like a hard task. If you're interested in the subject, can you paraphrase some of them? If you do so, I really appreciate your help. I might focus on Korean ceramic related articles for a while because I found very good images for them, so want to expand the articles.

As for scanned images on the book of North Korean film, if you send it as soon as possible is good for me....--Appletrees (talk) 00:19, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank for your support and I'm sorry that I make you to do the favor....The article is very important in Korean art history, so I really need a help. If you need me anything, please let me know..Thank you again.--Appletrees (talk) 01:27, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem because you have a lot of works to do and the article is not urgent. I just thank you for hearing the favor. :) --Appletrees (talk) 22:27, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anna May Wong

for your very hard work

I am jealous, you went through a wide array of source material, and did a great deal of work in what I consider a very short time frame. Cheers. EraserGirl (talk) 11:54, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the contribution on Vixen!. I rewrote the article yesterday (or at least tried) so it's nice to see the image added next day! Mike P (talk) 21:09, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Appletrees

I am only putting this here, because I am not confident that Appletrees will leave my original comment intact on his talk page, and I feel your comments about me deserved a response

Have a little good faith in my comments, Dekkappai. I would not waste my time learning such a language, because I don't live in Korea, I don't know any Koreans in real life therefore learning it, would be a total waste of my time. Oh and that comment of mine was in response to being told, "I recommend you to learn Korean if you wish to talk with Korean admins" so the response was not racist in the slightest, it was an honest response to a comment directed towards me. Sennen goroshi (talk) 18:11, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

oh and nice name, I wonder how many people are aware of the meaning of Dekkapai. Sennen goroshi (talk) 18:11, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, as I suspected the moment I left a response for you on the talk page of Appletrees, he deleted it. I know it is his talk page, but it seems a little unfair that he would allow comments that criticise me, and remove my responses. It is becoming rather hard to continue having good faith for such editors. I dont mind the content disputes, but his way of dealing with things is unethical. Sennen goroshi (talk) 18:16, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, Sennen-- I assume good faith when I assume you are a native English speaker, and so can recognize the offensiveness of your statement-- far more so than Appletrees' suggestion that you learn another language. And your explanation doesn't really go very far in lessening it. I'll just assume that it was a poor choice of phrase spoken in the heat of argument. I haven't had much contact with you and do not know the specifics of your conflict with Appletrees. But if my assumption that you are a native-English speaker in Japan (as I was-- and in Korea) is correct, I would advise you to at least be aware of, and sensitive towards the feelings between the two countries. Also, as a non-Korean and non-Japanese (I assume), do try not to appear to take on the prejudices of either side-- my own family life includes both Japan and Korea, so I know how difficult, but important-- and rewarding-- this can be. Might I also join Appletrees in suggesting you try learning some Korean? If you speak Japanese, it should be very easy to pick up Korean. (I spoke Japanese before I took up Korean.) Also, make some Korean friends? Visit the place? It's only a half-hour flight away. I have particularly fond memories of Seoraksan, Gyeongju, Gongju, and the sites (and eating and drinking establishments) of Seoul. Also, if you like film, I think South Korea is making some of the most interesting films in the world today (and I'm a Japanese film fan from waaaay back). Take a look at The President's Last Bang or Spider Forest or Feathers in the Wind, or Chi-hwa-seon... Who knows? You may fall in love with the country/culture/people as I did too-- and this in no way took away from my feelings for Japan. As a matter of fact I think my knowledge and feelings for both countries deepens the more I experience both countries & cultures. (I also personally feel that the differences between the two are far less than either side would have you believe.) As for the name: I'm a guy who knows what he likes... (Which reminds me, I've been happily married to a lovely Korean woman for nearly 15 years. ;-) Regards. Dekkappai (talk) 19:22, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Hitomi Kobayashi.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Hitomi Kobayashi.jpg is an image with a clearly invalid fair use tag; or it is an image that fails some part of the non-free content criteria and the uploader has been given 48 hours' notification (for images uploaded after 2006-07-13) or seven days' notification (for images uploaded before that date). (CSD I7).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Hitomi Kobayashi.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to User talk:Sdrtirs, you will be blocked from editing. Toddst1 (talk) 18:43, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Responding to the note on my talk page, It is courtesy to leave a note for the creator of a file when it is tagged for speedy deletion. It's usually automated and you've been around long enough to know that. Your edit truly appears to have only the intent to annoy. Another question is why so many files you upload are being tagged for deletion.Toddst1 (talk) 18:57, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Your point about the warning left by User:Sdrtirs is well taken, but you confirmed my point about the intent to annoy. Peace. Toddst1 (talk) 19:03, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
