Revision as of 20:35, 29 June 2009

The Nokia Eseries consists of business-oriented smartphones, with emphasis on enhanced connectivity and support for corporate e-mail push services. All devices have advanced office features. Phones equipped with WLAN also provide a VoIP client (SIP Protocol).

Announcements

  • On May 18 2006, Nokia announced the addition of the E50 to the series, which it refers to as a "business device" rather than a "smartphone".[2]
  • On April 11 2008, Nokia Australia has advised that the E61i will be discontinued in May 2008 and be replaced by a more featured but smaller E71.

Early adopters in North America should note very carefully which frequencies and modes are supported by a particular phone. For example, while the Nokia E90 supports GSM on the North American bands of 850 and 1900, WCDMA can only operate on the European 2100 band. WCDMA operation in North America requires either WCDMA 850/1900 or WCDMA 1700/2100. The North American 2100 band is incompatible with the European 2100 band.

Compatibility with Mac OS X

Nokia provides the Nokia PC Suite that allows synchronization and transfer of data, calendars, contacts, and more between the phone and a Windows PC.

Mac users can access the data on a Eseries phone using a bluetooth connection. Synchronizing addresses and calendars is done using iSync. Some Nokia phones are supported natively, some require a iSync plugin from Nokia[1].
