Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nocturnal Breed
Hello wub, could you please close the above AfD, marking it "nominator withdrew the nomination"? The arguments brought forth, while they don't sway me very much (or "rock me like a hurricane," to stay genre-appropriate), make it seem clear that this article will be kept and there's no need taking up further space and time. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 21:28, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Wubbot

Hi there, wubbot recently removed an active Afd from Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Ohio. I've readded it so no harm done; but thought this may a bug you didn't know about. Cheers, §hep¡Talk to me! 16:55, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know, I'll look into it when I get chance. the wub "?!" 14:06, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The debate is still open and it archived it again. Thanks for the bot though. §hep¡Talk to me! 22:45, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It did it again.. Would you stop the bot until the issue is resolved? Thanks! §hep¡Talk to me! 19:24, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Physics participation

You received this message because your were on the old list of WikiProject Physics participants.

On 2008-06-25, the WikiProject Physics participant list was rewritten from scratch as a way to remove all inactive participants, and to facilitate the coordination of WikiProject Physics efforts. The list now contains more information, is easier to browse, is visually more appealing, and will be maintained up to date.

DELSORT/Anime and manga

Hello, wub! I've been working through the page history of Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Anime and manga, listing all the stuff on our project's deletion archive. As I've worked through the history, I noticed that there was a comment at the top of the deletion sorting page stating that it was supposed to be archived by the wubbot (a comment removed at some point for unknown reasons); however, I've not seen *any* revisions in the page history belonging to the bot. After a little prodding by another project member, I decided to come ask some stuff:

  1. Why didn't the wubbot ever archive the animanga deletion sorting page,
  2. Is it capable of going through the page's history and listing all the discussions that were missed,
  3. Does it list template and category discussions,
  4. Can it even handle our archive as it is presently formatted, or would it have to be redone, and
  5. What would it take to get it archiving our page?

Thanks in advance for any help! —Dinoguy1000 17:47, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! In order then:
  1. The reason I stopped the bot archiving the Anime and manga page is that it had a manual archive already, long before any of the other pages. I didn't realise this at the time of writing the bot (in fact the archiving function was something of a last minute addition). When I discovered it, it was being well maintained by members of the project, so rather than disrupting things I just told the bot to skip it. I thought that I left a message to that effect somewhere, but can't remember where.
  2. I guess it would be possible to do that using a bot/script, but not mine - it would be a very different problem and probably need a completely new script. If there aren't too many left it's probably easier to do by hand.
  3. No. I'm afraid that's been on my to do list almost forever now, but probably depends on me rewriting the bot entirely. My programming skills are pretty poor, and I wrote the bot as I was just starting out in Python. This is the first actually "useful" tool I've written (in any programming language!), as opposed to things for my own amusement. Hence the code is a horrible mess. So I want to go over it some time, rewrite it to be cleaner, faster and toolserver-ready, and add some new features. However things always seem to get in the way, either real life or on-wiki distractions. I've finished uni for the year and am heading out to Zürich tomorrow for a couple of months. So I'll be distracted for a while settling in and everything, but am taking my Python manual and hope to take a crack at it in the next few weeks. There's been some recent discussion on changing TfDs and CfDs to transcludable subpages, so I may wait to see how that pans out.
  4. The bot can't handle the current A&M archive. However one of the features for the new bot I'm planning is improved archive pages (sortable tables rule!), and if you decide you want to use them instead I should be able to write a script to convert your current archive.
  5. At the moment it's pretty unlikely I can get it to archive in your page's format. Sorry!
Hope this answers your questions, and please do prod me if I don't seem to be making any progress - I just need a bit of reminding sometimes! the wub "?!" 23:36, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey wub, thanks for your reply! Let's see now...
  1. That makes sense, though I didn't know it's been archived by hand for so long...
  2. All right, I kind of figured your bot wouldn't be able to handle it... Although, I've still got quite a ways to go (by my count, out of over 1000 revisions, I've only worked through around 200, then stopped while I pondered over whether and how PRODs should be listed).
  3. Fair enough... Using seperate subpages for TfDs and CfDs would make the archival easier for me, too.
  4. Hardly a surprise (as I noted above), though sortable tables does sound interesting... I was actually thinking of something similar myself. Could you perhaps provide a sample that I could take back to the project and see what everyone there thinks?
  5. Once again, no worries. =)
Heheh, it seems most of my replies aren't really anything substantial, sorry about that. Oh, and one last question, for curiosity's sake: what does the wubbot do with multiple nominations in the same AfD? Skip them, report them to you/the project, list only the main nominated article...? Thanks for your help! —Dinoguy1000 17:03, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

~poke~ Have you looked any at making a sortable table sample for this yet, wub? —Dinoguy1000 20:37, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. I've been messing around with some bot code, but writing the output thing kind of comes last. Don't worry, I'll let you know when I've got something. the wub "?!" 20:43, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and in answer to your other question which I missed, it only lists the main article for multiple nominations. That's something I might try and change though. the wub "?!" 20:44, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem there, take your time... I'm still working through the backlog (typically, on any given session, I add about 6-10k text to the archive, and it's typically only a month's worth of nominations... @_@ ). As for multiple nomination listings, I'm glad I don't have to write the code to attempt to detect and list them correctly, since there is no standard format stuck to with it. =P —Dinoguy1000 21:32, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

~poke²~ Just making sure you hadn't forgotten, feel free to slap me if it was unnecessary and you feel like it! ^_^ —Dinoguy1000 21:40, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Leslie Satcher

I agree with your suggestion regarding the CfD for Category:Songs written by Leslie Satcher. Based on my extensive knowledge of chart history, I know that Satcher has written more than a dozen hits, but none of them were really big chart hits (a #8, a #12, and a handful of mid-30s). "Troubadour" is probably the only one out of her catalog that would deserve a page (except maybe Martina McBride's "When God-Fearin' Women Get the Blues"). Some people may be very notable per WP:MUSIC outside of their writers' scope, but only have a very small number of songwriters' credits. For instance, Keith Stegall has produced almost everything with the name Alan Jackson on it, and he's charted a handful of singles of his own, but I only see a couple songs (neither of which were cut by Alan) that have Stegall as a co-writer. Therefore, there would be no need for a Keith Stegall category either, as it would have little to no potential for growth. Writers generally get less recognition than the artists who sing the songs, so I would think that a writer would have to have a more extensive catalog to deserve a category. (For instance, if "Chrome" and "I'm Tryin'" had their own pages, I probably wouldn't have listed Anthony Smith's category at CfD, as that would have put four songs in the category instead of just two.) Ten Pound Hammer Farfel and his otters(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 03:23, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok thanks. I understand that they may not have potential for growth, but similar songs by artist categories are kept, so there is a case that these should be treated similarly. I do agree that writers normally get less recognition than performers, and this may affect their notability. Anyway, feel free to comment further at the CfD. the wub "?!" 18:06, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion sorting/Australia/archive

Hi Wub! I am learning about the deletion process and I see you do a good job maintaining Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Australia/archive. Recently I contributed to the debate on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Spouse of the Prime Minister of Australia. That debate has now concluded (the result was keep) but I notice you have not yet archived it. Am I missing something? Keep up all the good work! Dolphin51 (talk) 12:14, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, see below. Another editor didn't realise and removed a few discussions without archiving. I re-added them, the bot should pick them up when I run it later tonight. the wub "?!" 12:54, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again Wub! I checked my contribution list for deletion debates in which I have participated, and compared it with the list of archived Australia-related debates. The following closed debates appear to have failed to make the transition to the archived list.
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kylie Minogue's leaked material
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Money & You
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Piwo Fellowship
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/MD (company)
I hope this helps. Dolphin51 (talk) 12:11, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the heads up. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kylie Minogue's leaked material and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Money & You don't appear to have ever been listed on Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Australia - that has to be done manually by editors, see the top of that page for guidance. Although I'm not sure how Money & You is related to Australia. As for the other two, they seem to have suffered the same fate as above and been removed by well-meaning editors without archiving. I've dropped a note about it, and fixed up a few others that got lost. the wub "?!" 20:42, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Wub. I was obviously in error in thinking the deletion debates about Kylie Minogue and Money & You came from the Australia-related debates. Dolphin51 (talk) 00:45, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Project activity

File:W40000 Symbol.png

This message is a test to check to see if members of the Warhammer 40K Project are still online, active and interested in helping the project. If you are no longer interested in the project all you need to do is...nothing! If you don't respond to this I'll take your name off the list and you'll never here from us again. If you're the proactive type you can remove the name yourself or talk to me and I'll do it.

If you are still interested in helping out the 40K project or otherwise still want to be listed there you can say so in response to this message on your talk page or on mine. Alternately you can add our new userbox () to your userpage and I'll take that as a response. The userpage doesn't automatically include people in a category of members yet, but it might in the future.

We've assessed most of the articles in the project on the Version 1.0 assessment scale (the table on the project page should take a few days to update) but we need to push to get the core articles in the project up to GA status. Thanks for all your help. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help the project along. Protonk (talk) 21:13, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can't promise to do much, but I'd like to help out occasionally. I don't have access to my collection of codexes and White Dwarfs at the moment, which is frustrating. But if there's any admin help needed (I'm thinking particularly of providing deleted content for rewrites and/or transwikis) I'll certainly be able to assist. And hopefully I'll get more involved with working on articles in the future. the wub "?!" 00:39, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My feeling now is that the AfD should at least push to merging with the Ash page since your work has shown the article meets minimum WP:GNG. It was only after wishing to ask the author questions when I realized that there had been no "courtesy notification" of the AfD. I think he'd be the one to best know if this project died. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Requesting uninvolved opinion

There is a discussion at Talk:Liancourt Rocks regarding:

  1. Whether the proposed Disputed Islands infobox is neutral in its presentation of basic article information
  2. Whether there is a valid reason to exclude the proposed infobox from the article

I should note that I am involved in the discussion, but I do not want to influence your opinion should you choose to offer one. I merely want some uninvolved editors to view the discussion and then offer an opinion. If you choose to participate, please post your opinion in the RFC comments section there. OK, that was weird. It looks like a special character had crept into the link somehow, which didn't show up in the edit window but did when I pasted it into Notepad++. Somehow Wikimedia dealt with it fine and still transcluded the right page. The bot was hitting the right page and realising the debate was closed (since that relies on the pywikipedia framework), but then the extra character meant it couldn't find the right line to remove it from the list. Very strange. Anyway I fixed it simply by removing the oddity. the wub "?!" 15:34, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Archiving"?

In your bot's edit summary for this edit, it says that it was archiving closed debates. It wasn't; it was just deleting them. Did the archiving part of the operation go wrong, or does "archive" have some meaning that's new to me? -- Hoary (talk) 10:23, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see you've been manually archiving that page using a different format. The bot only lists old debates in the archived, as on Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Christianity/archive for example, rather than transcluding them. So I guess it got confused. Although I thought I had put a safeguard against this kind of thing in, but clearly it doesn't work too well! Sorry for not spotting this before, and I'll remove Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Photography from the bot's workload. the wub "?!" 09:18, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hang on, don't rush off!

Perhaps part of the problem is that this "Deletion sorting" area started off as an enterprise of the (near dormant) "WP History of photography" but that it then became photography in general and thus untied from any project.

I think that the format now used for the photography deletion archive is helpful, but it's only helpful until the number of these old AfD increases a lot, or until there are contentious (verbose, interminable) AfDs, whereupon a series of archives would be necessary (yawn). By contrast, the format of Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Christianity/archive seems a lot better. And if that way the whole business is automatable, so much the better; because few people seem concerned about any archiving of photo-related AfDs, and when I'm away I'm not sure that anyone else will attend to this little chore.

If it would be easy for you to create an archive (but where?) that your bot can use, and then restart the automation, I'd be very grateful. Presumably archiving would work by chucking new information at the foot of the file, which could consist of anything, e.g. similar entries manually converted by me from the debates that are now transcluded but that no longer would be. -- Hoary (talk) 10:13, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll hopefully sort it later today. I'm a muppet, I spent ages thinking how to convert it to the standard format before I realised I can just put the transclusions back on the "current" page and let the bot do its thing! the wub "?!" 10:40, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion archive numbers?

Hey wub, this is something that's been nagging at me for a long time now... what are the numbers in parenthesis in the deletion archive entries? Some sort of timestamp/editcount? —Dinoguy1000 16:53, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, I hadn't realised I never explained that anywhere! It's the size of the discussion page in bytes. I thought it would be a nice thing to have to show up particularly contentious debates. It should be more useful once I get some sortable tables working. the wub "?!" 17:36, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia UK v2.0

Hello! Thanks for showing an interest in Wikimedia UK v2.0. Formation of the company is currently underway under the official name "Wiki UK Limited", and we are hoping to start accepting membership in the near future. We have been drawing up a set of membership guidelines, determining what membership levels we'll have (we plan on starting off with just standard Membership, formerly known as Guarantor Membership, with supporting membership / friends scheme coming later), who can apply for membership (everyone), what information we'll collect on the application form, why applications may be rejected, and data retention. Your input on all of this would be appreciated. We're especially after the community's thoughts on what the membership fee should be. Please leave a message on the talk page with your thoughts.

Also, we're currently setting up a monthly newsletter to keep everyone informed about the to-be-Chapter's progress. If you would like to receive this newsletter, please put your username down on this page.

Thanks again. Mike Peel (talk) 19:57, 8 November 2008 (UTC) (Membership Secretary, Wikimedia UK [Proposed])[reply]

Wiki UK Ltd Membership applications now invited!

Hello,

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Wiki UK Limited is now inviting membership applications! You can download the application form in PDF format from meta:Image:Wiki_UK_Ltd_membership_application_form.pdf

Information is given on the form about membership fees (£12/year standard, £6 for concessions); these need to be paid by cheque initially, although we hope to accept other forms of payment in the future. Applications should be submitted to me at the address given on the form. If you have any queries about the application process, please let me know.

We will formally start accepting members once we have a bank account, as we cannot process membership fees until that time. We will be submitting our application for a bank account in the very near future, and we hope to have this set up by the end of December at the latest.

Thank you for your support so far; I look forward to receiving your membership application.

Our apologies

Dear The wub, We are sincerely sorry for the recent vandalism to various wikipedia articles. I have a little, brother, age 11, that got onto our computer while we were away. He started to change wikipedia articles, and by the time we got home, we had several messages from you and other admins. Our family offers you the sincerest of apologies and we hope that the wikipedia community can forgive this accident.

Regarding this question, isn't that what the sandbox is for, more or less? --otherlleftNo, really, other way . . . 15:40, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it's for testing with nonsense or whatever, but that's ALL he's doing (apart from some article vandalism a while back). the wub "?!" 15:44, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have an issue with warnings about attacks in the sandbox, but if he restricts himself to nonsense edits there, does it really matter? I'd rather he work out his fun and then see if he can be refactored into a useful editor. I think much of his anger has to do with being targeted for sandbox edits due to recent quirks in Huggle, and asking him to refrain from doing what the sandbox is intended for seems a bit harsh.--otherlleftNo, really, other way . . . 15:55, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Warning

An article you created maybe deleted soon: Tools which can help you

The article you created: Fahrenheit (Third Album) may be deleted from Wikipedia.

There is an ongoing debate about whether your article should be deleted here:

The faster you respond, the better chance the article you created can be saved.

Finding sources which mention the topic of your article is the very best way to avoid an article being deleted Findsources3:

Find sources for Fahrenheit (Third Album): google news recent, google news old, google books, google scholar, NYT recent, NYT old, a9, msbooks, msacademic ...You can then cite these results in the Article for deletion discussion.

Also, there are several tools and helpful editors on Wikipedia who can help you:

  1. List the page up for deletion on Article Rescue Squadron. You can get help listing your page on the Article Rescue Squadron talk page.
  2. You can request a mentor to help explain all of the complex rules that editors use to get a page deleted: Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User. But don't wait for a mentor to respond to you before responding on the article for deletion page.
  3. When trying to delete a page, veteran editors love to use a lot of rule acronyms. Don't let these acronyms intimidate you.
Here is a list acronyms you can use yourself: WP:Deletion debate acronyms which may support the page you created being kept.
  4. You can vote to merge the article into a larger or better established article on the same topic.

If your page is deleted, you still have many options available. Good luck! travb (talk) 01:07, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Carbon Fibre/Carbon Fiber

What's the wiki regulation on British/US spelling differences, and why didn't you change it to 'fibre' if it pained you do much? It would be great if wiki created a feature that allowed articles to be written in either US or British English (or any English for that matter), and then automatically displayed the page in the spelling of the viewer's choice.Mr Pillows (talk) 00:33, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion sorting script

Hey wub, I've recently been working on a general deletion sorting script based on Template:Deltab and implementing improvements and new features from other deletion sorting scripts, with the ultimate goal of getting it included as a component of Twinkle. The script itself (which still has a long way to go) is at User:Dinoguy1000/delsort.js, and discussion for it is at User talk:Ioeth#JS request. I figured you'd be interested in this, since you do lots of work at the opposite end of deletion sorting. =) ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 04:12, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up. I see you found User:Jayvdb/Deletion sorting tool, which I have to admit is my tool of choice. But the code for that is quite incomprehensible to me, yours is far more readable. the wub "?!" 09:25, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I tried to track down and examine as many delsort scripts as I could, to see what might be usable. For one, mine is (currently) far simpler than the deletion sorting tool (and I'm trying to keep it as simple as I can, so I can actually keep track of what's going on (I don't know much Javascript yet =P )), and my script's syntax is highlighted (I think all the user scripts at WP:SCRIPT would benefit from an update to use <source lang="javascript"/>, but since they all seem to be protected...). Regardless, though, I intend to borrow stuff from that script (cleaning and optimizing the code to the best of my ability, of course) as I continue to develop my own version. ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 20:47, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Harold Alfred Whistler

Your almost instant deletion of the stub on Whistler deprived me of a chance to improve it into an article.

I say almost instant, because I was only offline about three hours, only to return and find that the stub disappeared before I could even put a {hangon} while I tried to work it up. By the time I read the warning notice, the stub was already gone. The notice was wasted effort and an empty courtesy.

I was under the impression that time should be allowed for improvement of an article slated for deletion. Certainly, Whistler qualifies as notable, as he was honored with military decorations. A quick Google search shows enough material to at least build a Start Class article. I can usually crank out a Start Class article in a couple of days--though I must admit, my present meat world commitments would slow me to maybe a week at present.

I have become the de facto mainspring of the World War I ace bio effort. I would have appreciated the chance to save the article through expansion. I believe I could have done it.

Georgejdorner (talk) 12:22, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry about that, I should have checked more carefully and if I'd seen your contribution history I might have held off and contacted you first. But the article contained no content for over two weeks and looked to have been abandoned. The speed with which I got to it was just chance, I happened to be working through Category:Candidates for speedy deletion at the time.
I'm definitely not making any judgement on whether he was notable enough for an article, and in fact suspect that he is. So thank you for your efforts on this. Nevertheless if you want to work on articles like this, it's probably best to either add a bare minimum of information at the start, or to work on it in a subpage of your userspace. Pages that don't contain any information are useless to readers, and I subscribe to the philosophy (although it's probably somewhat less important these days) that leaving articles as redlinks encourages creation by others (perhaps those with more time).
I have restored the article framework at User:Georgejdorner/Harold Alfred Whistler for you to edit when you have time. When it's ready you can simply move it back into the main article space. I look forward to seeing the results! the wub "?!" 13:02, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Though the deleted stub was in what has become my bailiwick, I was not the one who began and abandoned it. But, as I stated, I would have tried to save it.
At any rate, stuff happens. This stuff is unhappening, with no hard feelings, and that's a good thing all around.

My comments were in no way intended towards you. And my apologies if you ever thought they were. You are (as I hope you know) someone whose seemingly tireless (and often thankless) work I respect greatly.

You should have seen the DRV close I was referring to. Then perhaps you may understand my earlier thought more.

Anyway, I have a further opinion about much of what's been going on here, but feel somewhat hamstrung with the DRV being currently open. I'll drop you a note when this is all resolved.

(See Occuli's talk page for some other info about another aspect of this DRV...)

Article Rescue Squadron: Welcome

Glad you took up my invitation! Welcome!

Here to help articles tagged for rescue!

Hi, The wub, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome! Ikip (talk) 14:56, 2 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Jerkin"

The article that was here before was perfectly fine. The new one dumbs it down and gives the most false information about the movement. And if deletion was because it was "not notable"... I can tell you that Jerkin is a dance movement just like krumping. And in about 2 weeks there will be a music video airing MTV/VH1/BET/etc about the movement, and there is also a film in progress about it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.90.191.141 (talk) 03:19, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I look forward to it. Until then, or until some other mainstream media pays the slightest bit of attention to this, the article stays deleted. the wub "?!" 09:53, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving for BLP AFDs

There's a backlog of closed discussions on Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Living people. The wubbot hasn't edited the page in two days, it seems. لennavecia 23:13, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It should work on the next run through, tomorrow morning. the wub "?!" 23:37, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Is it possible to have the bot do a run on the above page daily? The number of AFDs added and closed each day is quite high. At the moment, we're approaching 180 AFDs on the page, which is difficult for some systems to load. لennavecia 16:35, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is something wrong with the bot or what? It's not archived this page in around a week. We almost up to 300 AFDs on the page, which comes close to locking browsers. لennavecia 04:17, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, there are plenty of things wrong with the bot:

  1. It was never really designed to work on deletion sorting on this kind of scale
  2. People keep changing back and forth what pages it's supposed to be archiving, throwing in redirects etc. despite the fact that such changes should first be discussed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Deletion sorting
  3. Despite the existence of excellent scripts for deletion sorting, people still keep adding all sorts of malformed bits to the pages
  4. The number of debates being added to Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Living people is absurd. I'll start a discussion of this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Deletion sorting later on, but right now I have to rush off to work.
  5. Shockingly, I have a real life and can't spend every day babysitting it.

For now I replaced the page with the CatScan link, which has the same (better?) results with far less overhead. the wub "?!" 07:45, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Strange hiccup in wubbot archiving

Wubbot seemed to have problems archiving one section from Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Disambiguations:

Thought you might be able to debug, although if this is the only hiccup, it might be ignored. Cheers! -- JHunterJ (talk) 12:16, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've over time noticed some delsort pages that are not getting archived. here, here, here and here are a few examples. There are others. It looks like you use User:The wubbot/delsortlist as your source for what pages to archive. Is it OK for others to edit this page? If so, is there anything else that needs to be done to get the archiving rolling on missed discussion pages? If you would rather others not edit the source list, would it be OK to provide you with a list of those I find not being archived and just let you handle it? - TexasAndroid (talk) 17:57, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've updated it, the bot should start working on them soon. Sorry, it's something I kind've forgot to do for a while, and the changes to the other list got lost on my watchlist. the wub "?!" 12:03, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh look, someone straightaway went and redirected Arab. I don't know why I bother sometimes... the wub "?!" 07:32, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Even if one got redirected, the addition of the rest are greatly appreciated. So your "bothering" is a worthy effort, even if, for one part, it turned out to be unneeded. - TexasAndroid (talk) 13:32, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's been about a week since Wikipedia:WikiProject_Deletion_sorting/Academics_and_educators was archived. Is that related to this issue? Should I expect it to start up again soon or is more intervention needed? —David Eppstein (talk) 16:31, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Same for Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Wrestling, it hasn't been archived since June 21. ♥NiciVampireHeart18:02, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done now. Thanks! —David Eppstein (talk) 20:29, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Same here. Thanks so much! ♥NiciVampireHeart08:50, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cambridge meetup 4

Starting discussion at Wikipedia:Meetup/Cambridge 4. Charles Matthews (talk) 10:24, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This has been closed a few days back, but wubbot doesn't appear to know that, as he has been on both WP:DSI and Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Social science to archive old discussions, but hasn't got his nose around this. Can you take a look? Thx -SpacemanSpiff (talk) 16:12, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The closer used an unusual template and forgot to subst it. I've fixed it, should get archived on the bot's next pass later this evening. the wub "?!" 17:14, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thx. I thought the Polltop template was a bit odd, but I figured it was another standard use one that I wasn't aware of. -SpacemanSpiff (talk) 17:19, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Category:Sci Fi Channel original films (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) for renaming to Category:Sci Fi Pictures original films (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at the discussion page. Thank you. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 02:15, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
