Matharu or Matharoo (ਮਠਾੜੂ in Gurmukhī script) is a prominent Sikh clan belonging to the Ramgarhia and Jat tribe.
Etymology
The word Matharu originated from the Sanskrit word mathar which means "stanchion".[citation needed]
