The Matharu [[List of Jat clans of West Punjab|clans of West Punjab]] claim [[Jadaun]] (also spelt Jadon) ancestry from [[Rajput]]s. They are found in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar and Patiala districts. In Hindu culture, the Jadaun are a clan (gotra) of Chandravanshi (Yaduvanshi) Rajputs found in North India and Pakistan.

Matharu or Matharoo (ਮਠਾੜੂ in Gurmukhī script) is a prominent Sikh clan belonging to the Ramgarhia and Jat tribe.

Etymology

The word Matharu originated from the Sanskrit word mathar which means "stanchion".[citation needed]
