Kauko Ensio Seppänen (September 7, 1924 – June 28, 2008) was a Finnish sculptor and professor (1978). He sculpted a total of 127 public sculptures.[1] In 1984, Seppänen had crafted more public sculptures than any other artist in Finland. "Sculptor Ensio Seppänen, is a Finnish record man" headlined Helsingin Sanomat on September 7, 1984.[2] Seppänen was granted an artist's pension in 1985, as were a number of fellow artists who were unable to support themselves and their families with art. Seppänen's parents the carpenter Kaarlo Seppänen, and Martha Seppänen, (nee Järvinen). He married Tyne Seppänen (nee Korhonen) in 1958. They have two children, Timo and Keijo.

Production

Seppänen sculptures are cast in bronze and granite, molded in various ways, and formatted with stainless steel welding.[3] A characteristic feature of the sculptures is that the accessories and tools have a historically correct look.[4] Most of the production are custom orders. In addition to public works, he did a limited number of tomb sculptures,[5] reliefs, memorial stone plans, portraits, medals, plaques and figurines for individuals, as well as designed sports and NGO flags and hand programs. Many of his sculptures are associated with war memories and historical events. Vadsø Norway Finnmark was unveiled in 1977, the memorial of his sculpted by immigrants, which were to reveal the Norwegian and Swedish kings, as well as the President of the Republic of Finland.[6] Most of the monuments located north of Finland, Sweden and Norway. Multi-talented artist, he designed and drew 13 buildings, some of which are located in Sweden, and was involved in the design Dunder 2060 snowmobile.[7] In addition, he designed and built his family caravan.[8] In his spare time, he made a variety of furniture and implements and the snow tractor.
