User gained access to brand identity guide.

Hello, User:Corkythehornetfan (talk), I was curious about an update to the ESPN template you made. Here's the diff of that edit, where you wrote in the edit summary: "According to their latest brand guide (registration is required), colors are #CC0000". I was just curious as to how to access the brand guide (normally found here)? Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 03:21, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Charlesaaronthompson: Just request an account. I said I was with Wikipedia and what I was going to use the brand guide for. ☔️ Corkythehornetfan 🌺 03:53, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Charlesaaronthompson: Were you able to access it? ☔️ Corkythehornetfan 🌺 20:43, 7 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Corkythehornetfan: Yes. I told them who I was and what I planned to do with the ESPN Brand Identity Guidelines (BIG). They sent me credentials. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 21:35, 7 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Coach navboxes' articles

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.

I will do my best to help create articles for the college basketball coach navboxes listed here. What is the rationale for four blue links as the threshold for it to not be nominated for deletion? Is that a set number from a discussion somewhere? Jrcla2 (talk) 13:56, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jrcla2: thanks! I'll look for the discussion when I get to my computer. Basically, one or two of the discussions said that four should be the minimum with a guideline linked with it... DL was the one who said that, I believe. ☔️ Corkythehornetfan 🌺 20:26, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Jrcla2: This discussion is what I'm going off of (see bottom comment by DL). This guideline states Some people seem to believe that there should be a a navbox on every page, but not everything truly needs a navbox. Even the most clueless new user can find his or her way from the first article to the next in line if there are only two, three or even four. So I believe four should be the bare minimum in a navbox, not including the parent article. ☔️ Corkythehornetfan 🌺 23:42, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine with me, I just didn't know where the number came from. I do think trying to get some notable stubs created is the better route than TfD'ing anything to start. Jrcla2 (talk) 20:19, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I agree. I would rather see the navboxes stay than go! ☔️ Corkythehornetfan 🌺 20:45, 7 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

College Colors: UC Santa Barbara Gauchos

I noticed you've done huge work regarding College Colors and the corresponding module(s). I have some information regarding UC Santa Barbara, which I've received directly from their marketing team, so want to ensure the information is correct. Regarding colors, they've listed out 5 different ones, but the main ones I believe are (Gaucho) Gold and (Gaucho) Light Blue which have different Pantone values than the school's Graphic Identity Website. How can I ensure that the UCSB athletics department colors are represented correctly? GauchoDude (talk) 14:48, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@GauchoDude: In order for the color codes to be changed – assuming that they are different than the academic colors – you would need to provided a reliable source (preferably a brand guide of some sort, much like the graphic identity source above). Unfortunately, an email won't do it because we have no way of accessing that email to validate it. If no source can be given, we'll have to just use the colors currently listed. Do you have the possible hex, rgb, and pms numbers that you can provide here? ☔️ Corkythehornetfan 🌺 17:17, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Corkythehornetfan: Understand the importance of the reliable source and more than happy to forward on the email I got directly from the UCSB Athletics Department for verification if you shoot me your email address. The ones listed on the Athletic Department style guide are Gaucho Gold (Pantone 130 C; Process C-0/M-30/Y-100/K-0) and Gaucho Light Blue (Pantone 286 C; Process C-100/M-66/Y-0/K-2). They also have three other colors listed but from my understanding, those are the two considered "primary". These colors confirm the information in the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos section "Overview of UCSB Athletics" that I added in 2009 when the change was announced (even though one of the original color names was Pacific Blue and not Gaucho Light Blue). The actual announcement has been lost to link rot, but the Style Guide I've received would confirm that info. Thoughts/next steps? GauchoDude (talk) 18:44, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There is no need to ping me since this is my talk page! I've sent you an email with my address in it [NOTE: That is not my real name, but rather a made up name for Wikipedia]. As for the names, we will use what is in the Media Guides as that is the most common info that gets out there. In this case, it's just "Blue and Gold". I'll think of something once I see the email. ☔️ Corkythehornetfan 🌺 21:59, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting some help and question

Hello, firstly thank you for adjusting the University at Buffalo seal and making the size a lot better. I was wondering if you could change the logo listed for the University at Buffalo to the updated master brand primary lockup one here : https://www.buffalo.edu/brand/identity/UB-visual-identity-system.html . I tried downloading it using the file provided here https://www.buffalo.edu/brand/identity/UB-visual-identity-system/master-brand.html but have no idea how to open any of those files, or how to make it a transparent background.

Also I was wondering where to find what the Buffalo Bulls athletic color names are. I see you changed it from UB Blue to Royal Blue but can't find where on the athletic website it states that. Only thing that comes up is this https://www.buffalo.edu/brand/visual-presentation/color/color-palette.html Thanks once again. AlaskanNativeRU (talk) 04:11, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@AlaskanNativeRU: I've updated the logo. If you want to try it in the future, let me know and I can tell you how to... it's pretty simple!
As for the names, I use the media guides (women's soccer, football, softball, etc.) to determine the color names. Since the module is mainly for Athletic articles, the media guides (or quick facts) on the Athletics website are the best sources to go by. "UB Blue" is for branding purposes only. Another source you can check is ncaa.com, which will list the same name as the media guides do. Hope this helps! ☔️ Corkythehornetfan 🌺 20:08, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! I would love to learn how to do that, I'd like to go around to the various department pages and update/take out the white backgrounds. Like in here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_at_Buffalo_School_of_Medicine_and_Biomedical_Sciences . Also how did you manage to open up any of the files from the UB download link I posted, as in which program is needed.AlaskanNativeRU (talk) 19:50, 16 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@AlaskanNativeRU: I use a website (www.fotoflexer.com) to make the images transparent and/or update the colors. It's pretty easy to operate... you click the paint can (√ the "transparent" box) and click the spaces you need to be transparent (un-click it if you want to update a color). It may not be clean, clean like other programs could do (mainly those that cost!), but it gets the job done! I've used this website for a couple of years on hundreds of files. As for the UB files, since my MacBook Pro doesn't open .EPS files, it opens it as a PDF which then I can convert it to a PNG file. Do you have Apple or Windows? If you have Apple, I can help you convert without using a website, but if you have Windows, you can use image.online-convert.com to convert the files (just click what type you want to convert it to). I don't know much about Windows. Hope this helps! ☔️ Corkythehornetfan 🌺 17:03, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Corky, thank for all you do for wiki! I also saw your talk page and that you want to Make America Great Again!! I was very happy to see that. You deserve a barnstar for everything you do! Thanks! AlaskanNativeRU (talk) 03:57, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

NJIT edits

Hello Corkythehornetfan, I watch the NJIT wiki entry pretty closely and notice that you deleted several items from the infobox including the free label "newspaper" and the label "sports". I also noticed that you replaced United States with U.S. In adding content to NJIT's infobox I make it a habit to check what other polytechnic schools do. For example, MIT uses both the Sports label and the newspaper free label. It also uses United States in place of US. Also, their web address, as displayed, doesn't use the www prefix. (neither does Cal Tech) To give more examples, Case Western, WPI and RIT use the sports label (19, 20 and 24 varsity teams respectively, while UMass Amherst uses the newspaper label. I could go on but I think you get the point. If you are applying some wiki standard that I am not aware of then please let me know what it is. If such a standard exist, I assume it's your intention to apply it generally, and to do so sooner rather than later. Wrrsimone (talk) 23:37, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Wrrsimone: I removed the "sports" label because it isn't needed for the university infobox. If the readers want to know how many sports teams the university offers, they can either go to the athletics section the athletics article. As for the newspaper, it is already in the see also section so I don't see why it needs to be in the infobox. United States was changed to U.S. to make it all on one line... I've been changing them to U.S. in most, if not all, university articles I've come across. (FYI: I have a majority of the university/college articles in my watchlist). I am a human, who does forget to remove things when moving from article to article, but for the most part I remember. If I don't remove it when I edit the article the first time, most likely I'll remove it the next time I edit the article. I don't have MIT on my watchlist, so I just haven't gotten there yet. Don't assume I'm targeting NJIT or anything like that, because I'm not. I update the articles as I come across them, as I have other things on my to-do list. Also, when you leave a message on my talk page, please create a new section. Next time I'll close it and will not reply. ☔️ Corkythehornetfan 🌺 23:11, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
hello again, Corkythehornetfan. I appreciate your prompt response. In reading it I notice that you do not cite any wiki standard you are applying. In fact, what you mostly express is your opinion on what should and should not be included in an info box. I may be wrong but I have the impression that almost every item in an info box is mentioned again somewhere in the body of most articles of any length. Moreover, is redundancy necessarily a bad thing, especially when many readers don't always read an article top to bottom? Lastly, as an experiment, I suggest that you make it a priority to apply your standards to MIT's article and see if you get a reaction. That way we can both get a better sense of how widely your standards find acceptance. Wrrsimone (talk) 18:30, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Wrrsimone: The only person who has a problem with these edits are you. I've been doing these sort of edits for the last couple of years, and you are the only person to disagree with me about this. There is no wiki standard to cite, but many of the WikiProject Universities members (who are way more experienced than I am) haven't challenged/disagreed with me me yet. If you're really concerned about it, then take it to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Universities and get a group to respond to you. As I said above, I will get to the MIT article when I get to it. Right now I have other things higher on my to-do list. I said it before, and I'll say it again: I am not targeting NJIT. I have other things to worry about... You may not be saying this directly, but that is what I'm getting from you. ☔️ Corkythehornetfan 🌺 19:40, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
