Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj (born 2nd July 1983) is an Indian professional Para-Badminton player currently ranked world No.4 in Men’s Singles and also a serving officer in the Indian Administrative Service(IAS). At the 2016 Asian Para Badminton Championships[2], Beijing, China, he became the first Indian bureaucrat to win a professional International Badminton Championship. he won gold beating Hary Susanto of Indonesia in the finals[3]. He won the championship while serving as District Collector/District Magistrate [1] of Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh[4].

Suhas originally belongs to Shivamogga in Karnataka and belongs to 2007 batch of IAS borne on Uttar Pradesh cadre. He got his Computer Engineering degree from prestigious National Institute of Technology, Karnataka in 2004.

Suhas came to International attention when he won gold and became first ever serving Indian bureaucrat to represent and win a medal for India at global level[5]. In December, 2016, he became the recipient of Uttar Pradesh’s highest civilian honor, the Yash Bharti[6], which he received on 1st December, 2016 by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh [2]. On December 3rd, World Disabilities Day, he received award from the state government for his performances in para sports[7]. He also holds distinctive record for winning many awards while serving in his official capacity[8].

He has been awarded for his performances by HE Governor, Uttar Pradesh [3] for his duties related to elections, by Revenue minister and Chairman Board of Revenue [4] for duties regarding revenue administration. He is widely known for his anti-encroachment and beautification of Jaunpur [5] where he previously served and Azamgarh [6], where he is presently serving as District Collector.

Personal life

Suhas is married to Ritu Suhas, a PCS officer of Additional District Magistrate rank posted as Deputy director consolidation in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh. His daughter Saanvi is 5 years old and son Vivaan is 2 years old. Ritu has also been awarded for excellent work in voter awareness in general elections.
