On 18 August 1996, the members of Bharatiya Bigyan O Yuktibadi Samiti expelled Ghosh on charges of faking a doctor's degree and sexually assaulting unsuspecting female patients.<ref>{{Cite news|url=|title=Juktibadi: Prabir Ghosh Bohishkrito|last=|first=|date=19 August 1996|work=Aajkaal|access-date=|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=}}</ref> Post his expulsion, Ghosh filed a lawsuit against the Samiti at the City Civil Court of Kolkata but he himself failed to show up for hearing.
