I was reading about Typos and I was kinda surprised to see the term "fat-finger error" in an "official" matter. I've always assumed it was a slang. From that article I ended up being here and I was further surprised to see it had an article of its own with the same term. I assume I'm not the only one being surprised by that as apparently all the discussions in this talkpage have the same subject. I'm not sure what the correct term should be but if the text here and all the mentioned articles in the See also part at the top mean something, I believe we should deviate from the current one. — Klein Muçi (talk) 11:10, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

Etymology

Does anybody know the etymological origin of the term "fat-finger error"? I've always assumed it was a reference to an episode of The Simpsons called "King-Size Homer", where Homer tries to call 9-1-1 but his fingers are too fat for the telephone. But I've been unable to locate a specific source stating so. Does anyone know for sure? Gabbe (talk) 16:20, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Move to Error trade?

It seems to me that we should move this article to Error trade, a slightly more general topic which also includes errors not caused by typos/misclicks. Much of the material in the article, including the entire "Deadlines for review & cancellation" section, applies to error trades in general and not just fat-finger trades. —Mx. Terminology

— Klein Muçi (talk) 11:10, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Genericised the page's introduction and moved the financial market sense to a heading to account for this. I agree that as it was written it's very SURPRISing that the term is used specifically. Nixinova T C 10:04, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
