Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition is a racing video game, developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games, and is the third game in the Midnight Club series. Like previous installments in the series, the game is an arcade-style racer and focuses on wild, high-speed racing, rather than realistic physics and driving characteristics. The name derived from a partnership between Rockstar and DUB Magazine, which features heavily in the game in the form of DUB-sponsored races and DUB-customized vehicles as prizes.

Players race through San Diego, Atlanta, and Detroit listening to an impressive 75 licensed tracks that include hip-hop to rock. The game features a number of graphical enhancements over previous installments, such as "speed smear", enhanced lighting effects, and the inclusion of flying debris and particles coming into view after the player crashes into certain objects, or travels across particular stretches of road. By far the biggest addition is the ability to customize a player's vehicle. Other than modifying the external looks, the car's/truck's performance can also be improved, except for those in the 'A' Class of the game. However, Class A motorbikes performance can be improved.

Vehicles

Unlike previous installments, Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition features licensed, real life vehicles.

Online mode

The game includes an online mode, where players can race other players from all around the world. There are also many clubs available to join, or players can start and manage their own club.

Most offline modes are available for play online, including cruise mode, ordered racing, unordered racing, tag, paint and autocross. Tracks designed offline can be used online.

Soundtrack

The game features 89 songs from popular artists.

  • 24 new vehicles.
  • Tokyo, as a new city, which is merely a revamped version of the Tokyo city from Midnight Club II.

  • Online gameplay.

Trivia

  • Rockstar Games used Gemballa versions of the Porsches and Ferraris because Electronic Arts holds the rights to their licences, which only allows Electronic Arts to feature the cars in their games. As a result, the Gemballa GT 750 is similar to the Porsche Cayenne, the Gemballa F355 is similar to the Ferrari F355 and the Gemballa Turbo Coupe is similar to the Porsche 911 Turbo and to the RUF RGT. Gemballa is a German company that does aftermarket work on Porsche automobiles.
  • As a possible reference to Ford Motor Company's refusal to allow its vehicles in the game, the player will eventually race against a 1981 Chevrolet Camaro with the licence plate "4RD SUX". There is a Ford in the game, however, in the form of a Saleen Mustang.
  • The player may only hold up to 30 vehicles but can have up to 5 game saves to collect all the vehicles.
  • In Tokyo Challenge there features a sign for Midnight Club II. This is probably because the level map is identical to that of the Tokyo level in Midnight Club II. It is found on two separate billboards surrounding the stadium towards the edge of the map.
  • A billboard with T.I.'s album cover can be seen in the game.
