Wikipedia:Spotlight/Newsletter/2024/September

Spotlight is a process by which a number of editors collaborate online and concentrate on improving a single article through the #wikipedia-spotlight channel on the freenode IRC network (see this tutorial for help with IRC). You can access the channel using freenode webchat or another IRC client.

The article that we currently have under the Spotlight is Marco Polo sheep.

Participants

Even Wikipe-tan has had her turn in the spotlight!

Please add your name to the list below. Users will be notified of upcoming projects and successful work, on their talk page.

Current article

We're currently looking at Marco Polo sheep.

We started work at 08:37 UTC on 16 July 2009, when it was a Stub class article; we hope to improve it to a B-class article - see the Wikipedia assessment system.

Proposed articles

Generally, one article per week is chosen from this list, through discussion in the Spotlight IRC channel. The following criteria are to be considered before posting an article. If an article doesn't fall under these criteria it will be removed from the list.

  1. Articles that are assessed as Stub, Start or aren't assessed.
  2. Have readily-accessible source information, e.g. reliable sources on the web, that are already listed in the talk page of the article.
  3. Are not controversial and didn't have edit wars.
  4. Haven't been heavily improved in recent time.

Spotlit articles

Templates

  • You'll know if your page is being looked at by Spotlight by the template on the top of the article and talk page, and the page will have the Wikipedia Spotlight category.
  • The current article will be tagged with {{Spotlight}}, on the article page and the talk page. That template auto-detects which namespace it is in, and adds the appropriate text.
  • After completion, {{Spotlighted|date}} will be placed on the talk page.
  • When working on the article, please put {{Spotlight working|~~~~~}} within the section that you are working on.

Userbox

There are two userboxes that participents can add to their user pages. Adding these will place your name in the Wikipedia Spotlight contributors category.

{{User Spotlight}}

This user contributed to
Spotlight.

{{User:Dendodge/Spotlight}}

Barnstar

Anyone may award the spotlight barnstar to contributors, by placing {{subst:Spotlight Barnstar|put your comment here ~~~~}} on the talk page of the user to whom you wish to award it.

Archive

The previous incarnation of the project page has been archived to Wikipedia:Spotlight/Feb2009.
