Joachim Cronman (1638-1703), was a Commandant of Dünamünde and Colonel in the Swedish Army who died in the Battle of Neumünde during the Great Northern War.[1][2]
Biography
Joachim Cronman was the son of Hans Detterman Cronman (1590-after1645), Lord of Alatskivi[3] in Swedish Livonia [4] and Ursula Kordes (1600-1675). [5] He had the following siblings: Johan Detterman Cronman (1618-?); Vilhelm Cronman (c1617-1656); Anna Catharine Cronman (1620-1688); Christina Cronman (c1625-1687) who married Joakim George Fredrick von Rohr (c1625-1687) who died in the Battle of Narva; Elisabeth Cronman (1630-1687); and Joakim Cronman (1638-?).
Joakim married Lunetta Makeléer (1639-1693) on August 9, 1657 in Göteborg, Sweden. Lunetta was the daughter of John Hans Makeléer who was a merchant in Sweden. [6] Together they had the following children:
- Ursula Cronman (1660-1745) who married Christoffer Fredrik von Grothenhielm (1655-1705);
- Johan Cronman (1662-1737) who became Governor of Malmö [7]
- Anna Catharina Cronman (c1662-c1685) who married Hans Christoffer von Rohr I (1626-1700) who was killed in action in the Battle of Narva. Their son was Joachim von Rohr.[1][2]
- Hedvik Elisabeth Cronman (1663-1699) who married Henrik Aminoff (1653-?)

One of the first to arrive was John Maclean, one of the principle builders of the city, who made himself a large fortune in the process. He was ennobled by Queen Christiana in 1649 under the name Makeleer and was royal banker to the queen. His son, also John, was president of the Göteburg Court of Justice

Fought in 13 battles, never wounded. Spoke 8 languages: Swedish, Latin, German, Estonian, Polish, Russian, French and Dutch.
