So arils may form a false fruit like a yew berry (is it a berry?), but what makes that different to a true fruit like an apple or a plum?

How is a false fruit different to a true fruit?

So arils may form a false fruit like a yew berry (is it a berry?), but what makes that different to a true fruit like an apple or a plum?
