Barbacks also get a lot of shit from their own bartenders. Sometimes even though a barback is busting his ass, he is looked down upon his bartender for not moving fast enough, for not pouring enough drinks, for not carrying the cocktail waitresses bus tubs at Superman speed (as if Superman would be good enough).

And, sometimes even though one might have squeaked by with a degree from a reputable college, only to find a mediocre position in a software company, only to be fired because the company was going down, only to live with his parents for fuck's sake, and then to (after several other menial jobs) finally land a barback position, sometimes, just sometimes, he's not good enough to even be a good barback. Sometimes a barback just has to give up on careers in general and collect money off the streets. This is sometimes a barback's best option that he sees when he's drunk off his ass from being criticized for not moving fast enough at work, yet can still type fucking 60 words a minute.

A barback is a bartender's assistant. Barbacks work in nightclubs, bars, restaurants and catering halls. Barbacks stock the bar with whatever it needs: liquor, ice, glasses, beer, fruit, etc. Barbacks usually receive a portion of the bartender's tips. In most parts of the United States, one can work as a barback if under the age of 21 (the legal age for purchasing alcohol) while one cannot work as a bartender if below this age.
