BMW India Private Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of BMW, headquartered in Gurgaon, Haryana.

Operations

BMW India made an initial investment of 1.1 billion (US$13 million) in its factory in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, with an initial capacity for 3000 cars.[1] The factory started operations in March 2007. Its capacity has since been expanded to produce 11,000 cars and SUVs annually as of August 2011.[2] It expects its 2011 sales in India to reach over 10,000 cars and SUVs.

BMW India will employ around 400 people by end of 2010. Up to 1200 jobs will be created in the dealer and service network by end of 2012.[citation needed]

As of July 2011, BMW India has a network of over 20 dealerships across India.[3]

BMW established an International Purchasing Office (IPO) at its headquarters in Gurgaon to identify and assess Indian suppliers for BMW and Mini automobiles and motorcycles worldwide. The IPO focuses on procurement of automobile components as well as IT and Engineering services from India for BMW's international operations.[1]

BMW India produces the following models at its factory in Chennai:[2]

  • BMW 5 Series (523i, 520d, 525d and 530d)
  • BMW X1 (sDrive 18i, sDrive 20d, sDrive 20d Exclusive)
  • BMW X3 (X3 xDrive30d, X3 xDrive20d)

It imports CBU manufactured models in India.

BMW Financial Services India

In 2010, BMW launched the BMW Financial Services India as a wholly owned subsidiary headquartered in Gurgaon. The subsidiary provides financing options for consumers and fleet owners, as well as commercial financing for BMW's network of dealerships and service stations.
