Animax India is a subsidiary of Animax Asia based in India and the rest of South Asia (Bangladesh and Pakistan). It currently airs in English 24 hours a day. This Channel is a part of Japanese media conglomerate Sony.
On May 4, 2010, the channel launched a new English General entertainment feed with a new logo. The channel now airs several types of shows. Alodia Gosiengfiao and Stephanie Henares, called as Ani-Mates, cosplay various characters of latest shows airing on Animax.[1] They also have their blogs on the Animax Website.[2][3]
History
Animax began operations across India and the rest of South Asia from 5 July 2004. It is operated and broadcast from Singapore by Animax Asia and distributed by SET India. Animax South Asia started with 12 hours Hindi feed and planned to launch separate 24x7 Hindi & English feed[4] but from 15 August 2006, Animax removed Hindi feed for unknown reasons and switched to 24x7 English feed also changes its target audience to focus exclusively to teen & young adults of metros.[5] On 1 January 2008 Animax South Asia merged with Animax Asia's programming feed, including all of its exclusive premieres. Animax India rebranded its logo along with Singapore on May 4, 2010 and now it has its very own 24/7 English language feed. Animax became the first channel to simulcast the ultra popular series, Supernatural.[6] Continuing with the sci-fi shows, Animax aired Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles for the first time in entire Asia.[7] Animax also aired Korean entertainment shows like Live Power Music, Pretty Boys & Girls and Comedy Boot Camp in Korean audio with English subtitles. Animax added american reality shows to their list with the premiere of Scare Tactics.[8] Animax also simulcasts the yearly Video Game Awards hosted by Spike TV.[9] Animax recently announced the premiere of Ghost Adventures, a weekly American paranormal television series, the first of its kind on the channel.[10] With the Premiere of Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan Animax stopped dubbing anime and aired it in Japanese audio with English subtitles.[11] However, Animax continued to dub a few anime shows like the second season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.[12] Animax continued to simulcast all the shows aired on AXN, its sister channel. The Shows Ghost Adventures, Chuck and Fear Itself were originally aired on AXN India.[13][14][15] Animax recently confirmed the premiere of Animax Musix Fall 2010 as on Friday, May 27 · 9:00pm - 10:00pm on their Facebook page.[16]
