Bhuvneshwar Kumar Mavi (born 5 February 1990) is an Indian cricketer who plays for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket.[1] He is a right-arm medium-fast bowler and a right-handed batsman. He also plays for Pune Warriors India in the Indian Premier League.[2]

Kumar was born in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh in a Gurjar family.[3]

He is currently living in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. He belongs to Luharli village,[4] Distt Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.

Kumar made his first-class debut at the age of 17 against Bengal.[5] In the 2008/09 season, he became the first bowler to dismiss Sachin Tendulkar for a duck in first-class cricket.[6] After good performances in that season, he was handed an IPL contract by Royal Challengers Bangalore.[7] He has also represented Central Zone in Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy.[8][9]

Apart from being a good swing bowler, Kumar is also known for his lower middle-order batting, which makes him a useful all-rounder.

International career

After Awana's poor showing in the two T20Is against England, Kumar was selected in the playing eleven of the first T20 day/night match against Pakistan at Bengaluru. He took 3 wickets for 9 runs in 4 overs in the match. He holds the record for the best bowling figures on T20I debut. He took the wickets of Nasir Jamshed, Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal. He had an economy of 2.25 in that match.

He has the best economy rate in a T20I debut, along with Saint Lucian Garey Mathurin (who also took 3/9 on his debut against England at The Oval in 2011.

He took a wicket in the very first ball that he bowled in his ODI career by dismissing Mohammad Hafeez of Pakistan.

Bhuvneshwar's debut wickets in T20Is, ODIs and Tests have all been bowled. He is the first ever bowler to do so. He took 6 wickets in four test matches against Australia in the 2013 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He also had a record partnership with MS Dhoni for the 9th wicket in the first test of the series. He has the highest score by a Indian number 10 on debut, 38*.

Recently, Bhuvneshwar has established himself as the spearhead of the Indian fast bowling attack and has developed a knack for picking up early wickets with regularity. On July 9th he posted career figures on 4-8 against Sri Lanka in the Tri-Nation tournament, which India would go on to win.

Domestic cricket

Bhuvneshwar Kumar plays for [Uttar Pradesh], India in domestic cricket. He has also played for Central Zone in the Duleep Trophy. In the 2nd semi-final against North Zone, Kumar took one wicket with an economy rate of 3.03. Although being a lower-order batsman, he also helped his team in that innings by scoring 128 off 312 balls surpassing all the scores of his team mates and maintained a partnership with 4 batsmen. He consequently became man of the match.

In the 2008-2009 Ranji Trophy final to Mumbai, Bhuvneshwar bowled Sachin Tendulkar out for a golden duck although his team lost to Mumbai. He was the first player to consign Sachin Tendulkar to a first-class duck in Indian Domestic Cricket.

IPL

After good performance in the 2008-2009 season, Bhuvneshwar was handed an IPL contract by Royal Challengers Bangalore but was afterwards bought by Pune Warriors India.

International career

Test career

Bhuvneshwar made his debut on 22 Feb 2013 against Australia during 1st test of Australia Tour to India in 2013. He was given the test cap by Ishant Sharma. He struggled to take any wickets in the first innings, mainly because it was more of a spin track rather than a swing and pace favorable pitch. Later, in the same test during India's batting, he helped setup a massive partnership of 140 runs for the 9th wicket with MS Dhoni. This partnership helped India establish a lead of 266 runs. During this course he was part of a few records and was given a standing ovation by the team and the crowd once he got out with a score of 38 runs(off 97 balls). When India went to field in the second innings he didn't get a chance to bowl. He went wicket-less on his debut. In his second test match he got three wickets making Australia's David Warner, Ed Cowan and Shane Watson out. He also took the catch of Matt Wade. In the first innings of his second test against the AussiesAustralian Cricket Team, Bhuvneshwar was wicketless mainly because he could not get the ball to swing and was given very few overs. (6 in a spell and then a single over). But in the second innings of that test , he took all three dangerous wickets of Shane Watson, David Warner and Steven Smith falling on the final session of day 4
