Chantal Conand, born the (1943-04-10) 10 April 1943 (age 81), is a French marine biologist.

Biography

She obtains her PhD in biological oceanography at University of Western Brittany in Brest in 1988, with her thesis named Aspidochirotida of the New Caledonia Barrier Reef (French: Les Holothuries aspidochirotes du lagon de Nouvelle-Calédonie)[1]. In January 1993, she goes to the Marine's ecology laboratory (ECOMAR) of the University of La Réunion and then become the chief.[2] Spécialist of the echinoderms of the Indo-Pacific, she works on sea cucumbers,[3] but also on other echinoderms of la Réunion as the crown-of-thorns starfish, which preys upon hard, or stony, coral polyps (Scleractinia). She is member of the scientific committee of the Western Indian Ocean Marine Sciences Association from 2001 to 2004. She is now emeritus.[4]
