A belated welcome!

Sorry for the belated welcome, but the cookies are still warm!

Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, Estevezj. I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. Though you seem to have been successful in finding your way around, you may benefit from following some of the links below, which help editors get the most out of Wikipedia:

Again, welcome! Closedmouth (talk) 15:53, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

'DRYourself' on Politics of Denmark

Hi Estevezj, I'm trying to figure out your intention with this edit in the article Politics of Denmark. I simply can't figure out, why you removed the text "as no Danish political party has held a parliamentary majority since 1909" and the edit summary ("DRYourself") doesn't help me either :( In kind regards Heb (talk) 07:21, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hej Heb, I inserted that line in this edit. Later when I finished editing that section I saw that that the first sentence of the main body of the article recapitulates the same information:"Denmark has a multi-party system and no single party has held an absolute majority in parliament since the beginning of the 20th century". I added a citation for that sentence and deleted the one I had inserted. DRYourself was a cruddy abbreviation of Don't repeat yourself—which may or may not be applicable to an encyclopedia article. Re-insert it if you think it makes sense. I'll try to use more informative edit summaries from now on. :) Best regards, Estevezj (talk) 07:37, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ah - I really didn't see the "Don't repeat yourself"-possibility, but now it does make perfectly sense :) Thank you for the explanation. In kind regards, Heb (talk) 10:27, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the compliment!

I had actually been thinking about "talking" with you, because I saw your proposed outline for the Microbiome article several days ago in your sandbox. I wish I had known about it, because in a number of ways it represents a superior organization to the one that I adopted! Also, I noticed that you had planned to cover topics like 16S rRNA gene sequencing, Metatranscriptomics, Metaproteomics, and Systems microbiology, which I had not planned to cover at all, and since I have a pretty favorable impression of the deltas that you contributed to Metagenomics, I was going to say that if you wanted to add descriptions of these research tools to the article, you would certainly be in a better position than me to do so. When I claim to be a "former" molecular biologist on my user page, I mean very former, like a quarter of a century ago. I did DNA sequencing via Maxam-Gilbert method and was expert at pouring ultra-thin acrylamide gels, that sort of thing... My knowledge of state-of-the-art is pretty dated! I'm currently working on a fully expanded article on the Hologenome Theory of Evolution, an animated gif to illustrate anomalous dispersion for the Dispersion (optics) article, and I'm considering adding a section to the Aspect-oriented programming article, so I won't be getting back to the Microbiome article any time soon. I would certainly appreciate your contributions! Stigmatella aurantiaca (talk) 14:18, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It has been three weeks since this review was initiated, yet there has been no action on the template. Just wanted to check to be sure you were still interested in pursuing it, and were planning to take action on it soon. Thanks! BlueMoonset (talk) 15:21, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reminder. It should be completed in the next day or two. — James Estevez (talk) 03:52, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

ISCB Wikipedia Competition 2013

Dear User:Estevezj,

Congratulations on your recent success in the ISCB Wikipedia competition. I thought that you would be interested to know that the International Society for Computational Biology was running its Wikipedia competition again this year. You can find out more at the URL below:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Computational_Biology/ISCB_competition_announcement_2013

To enter you must still be a student or post-doctoral trainee. I would also be grateful if you could also let your colleagues know about the competition as we would like to get even more great entries this year :-)

Best wishes. Alexbateman (talk) 14:25, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

High Yellow Notable People List

What exactly was wrong with this list? Gemdog (talk) 10:20, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My objections were on the talk page, but to restate:
  1. WP:NOTDIR
  2. The term is offensive to some. It is the equivalent of a list of notable Native Americans in the Redskin article.
  3. The list, even if there was consensus to retain it, must be referenced, which begs the question,
  4. What constitutes criteria for inclusion? Can any light-skinned notable who's been referred to by that term by anyone be included?
We should move this discussion to the talk page, however.— James Estevez (talk) 16:55, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
