Alexander Dmitriyevich Zhukov (Russian: Алекса́ндр Дми́триевич Жу́ков; born 1 June 1956) is a Russian economist and politician, member of the State Duma (1994–2004). He is the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation since 9 March 2004.
Family
His father, Dmitry Anatolyevich Zhukov, was a writer and supporter of the conservative ideology.
Education
Alexander graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Moscow State University in 1978. Later, he attended Higher economic courses at the USSR State Planning Committee. In 1991, Alexander attained an MBA from Harvard University. Alexander Zhukov is a specialist in monetary, tax, and customs legislation.
Career
- Since 1978 he worked in the VNII Systems Research USSR.
- In 1980-1991 - member of the Main Monetary and Economic Department of the Ministry of Finance of the USSR: Economist, Senior Expert, Senior Expert, Deputy Head, Head of funding for foreign economic relations.
- In 1986-1989 - deputy of the Bauman District Council of People's Deputies.
- In 1991-1993 - Vice-president of AO Avtotraktoroeksport.
He is the president of the Russian Olympic Committee and became an IOC member at the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires in September 2013.[1]
He and ROC are working towards the inclusion of the traditional Russian national sport, bandy, in the Winter Olympics.[1]
Honours
- Order of Merit for the Fatherland, class IV (1 June 2006) - for services to the state and many years of diligent work
- Order of Honour (24 April 2003) - for active legislative activity and many years of honest work
