14:35:58, 14 June 2015 review of draft by Dave Truesdale

Am working on a draft article for a geneticist. Think I have it ready to go except for the photo and brief text below photo. Don't know how to do the photo and text. I now see I've asked my question in the wrong place. Sorry for the error, never mind.

02:07:54, 15 June 2015 review of submission by Dave Truesdale

How do I add information below the photo of Dr. Bryant Villeponteau, and will I need to add a box around Contents on the left side and how do I do that? I'm so worn out from reading how-to pages I finally thought I'd just ask for direct help. Thank you very much.

06:10:42, 15 June 2015 Question from Jogi don

I want to create a new page for my userpage. How can I do it ? Jogi don (talk) 06:10, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Jogi don: This wasn't the right place to ask your question, but I see that you have found out how to do it, when you created User:Jogi don/Userboxes/Lassi. I also see that you have found Teahouse, which is a great way to get help with questions like this. A belated welcome! --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 14:24, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

08:55:40, 15 June 2015 review of submission by Editandsave

Hi, This is my first Biography article creation. The subject person is my friend who is budding director in the Indian film industry. I have created this by confirming all information from him. I had submissed this draft exactly a month ago. The status after submission was that "draft will be reviewed within 2 to 3 weeks". Its been more than a month. So thought would query if anything is missing or if I need to provide some more information for the quick review.

It would be great if someone can help me with this. Thank you in advance.

Editandsave (talk) 08:55, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Editandsave - You cannot actually use anything that you have been told, only actual published sources are acceptable, see WP:Verifiability for the reasons for the rule. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 19:58, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the intended name of the article was : /Rob_O'Neill_(Irish_Footballer) and not the current 'JohnM1055/sandbox/Rob_O'Neill_(Irish_Footballer)'..is it possible to erase the 'JohnM1055/sandbox/' so it looks more professional. Thank you in advance

Hello John, the Draft will be renamed (moved) if it is accepted as an article. At the moment it is not submitted for review to be accepted. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 10:30, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 18:59:10, 15 June 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by JameswoodSK

I'm somewhat at a loss as to why some articles are allowed (for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucy_Donnelly), which say very little about the notability of the person, and the one I submitted, which says much more. Does it really read like advertising??? I almost feel that it's not worth the effort to make any improvements -- I was told that the references weren't sufficient, so I changed them. Now a different reviewer is telling me something else. Is it time to throw my hands in the air and give up? JameswoodSK (talk) 18:59, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JameswoodSK - Firstly; forget about comparing your draft to "other worse articles", there are almost five million articles on the English Wikipedia, many thousands of them are pretty much guaranteed to be rubbish, but that is no excuse for adding to the problem. By the way, there is nothing in the history of the other article you mentioned to show that it ever went through a review.
Now about your draft, I've done some cleaning up as far as formatting is concerned. The main problem it still has is that there are no references for most of the biographical details. If you can solve that with solid reliable sources (mainstream press, literary magazines, academic articles), it would get a lot closer to acceptability. 20:53:04, 15 June 2015 review of submission by Cabsco

Cabsco (talk) 20:53, 15 June 2015 (UTC) Is there a limit or minimum character required as to each article submission? If yes, what is it and if no what's the maximum character each article must contain. Thanks.[reply]

Hi Cabsco There is no minimum except that the content must at least demonstrate that the subject is notable. That requires at least a few sentences, which must be verified by proper references to independent reliable sources. The maximum is around 100 kilobytes of text, by the time an article reaches that length some of the content should be split out into one or more "sub" articles. 08:45:09, 16 June 2015 review of submission by Londonalley

Can other Wikipedia articles be considered reliable sources for referencing? Can magazine article be used as a source if it's written in a language other then the article? Would IMDB.com be good source for verifying credit of music video director? Would website like Vevo displaying director's name be used to verify directors credit for the music video? can press release by the museum be used as a source to verify authorship of an artwork? Londonalley (talk) 08:45, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Londonalley (talk) 08:45, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Londonalley:
  1. "Do not use articles from Wikipedia as sources." (WP:CIRC)
  2. "Citations to non-English sources are allowed. However, because this is the English-language Wikipedia, English-language sources are preferred over non-English ones whenever English sources of equal quality and relevance are available." (WP:NONENG)
  3. "Self-published media ... are largely not acceptable. This includes any website whose content is largely user-generated, including the Internet Movie Database (IMDB)." (WP:USERGENERATED)
  4. Vevo's Terms of Use make it sound like at least some of its content is user-generated. Other content may come from the major record labels, but what comes from where is unclear to me.
  5. A press release by a museum would likely be considered a reliable source for the authorship of an artwork they exhibited.

Jimmybikram (talk) 14:53, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

sir please help me for my artile what to do for publishing,
i was tryied a lot then i submitted but this time also not accepted.
@Jimmybikram: The draft does not establish that Jimmy Bikram fulfills the basic notability criteria for people. References are required to demonstrate notability. They must be reliable secondary sources independent of each other and the subject. There need to be multiple sources, and they need to provide a significant depth of coverage. The draft cites no sources, so the subject does not appear to be a suitable topic for an encyclopedia article. Wikipedia is not for self-promotion. --Worldbruce (talk) 17:00, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

What is happening with my article

The requested changed for this article made and it was resubmitted/. I am wondering if it is in the process of being reviewed or if it is in limbo somewhere. If someone would please advise. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wallyl22 (talkcontribs) 16:01, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't help that you have numerous drafts in different places.
As far as Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Joel S. Schuman is concerned, in this edit you removed the submission feedback templates that included the "resubmit" button. As you haven't resubmitted, it isn't waiting for review. I will add back the templates you deleted.
You also have a draft at User:Wallyl22, but that is the wrong place for a draft article. The purpose of a user page is given at WP:User pages.
You have yet another version at User:Wallyl22/sandbox.
Your best bet is to concentrate on one draft (preferably the first one, as that is the one on which you have already had feedback). Correct the points noted in the previous reviews, then resubmit. To avoid confusion, I suggest that you blank the other pages (or for your sandbox you can undo your most recent edit on that page and thus go back to the redirect to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Joel S. Schuman, that redirect having been put in place when the draft was moved). --David Biddulph (talk) 16:46, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 10:27:29, 17 June 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by Samirsoormally

Hi there,

This article was declined for formatting but I am a bit confused as to what it is referring to. It had not been picked up on previous submissions so am wondering what it could be. I am sorry if I am missing something very simple.

Kind regards, Samir Soormally

Samirsoormally (talk) 10:27, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Samirsoormally, I'm afraid I don't see a serious formatting problem either. Perhaps Elee would explain the problem. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 10:56, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

18:32:32, 17 June 2015 review of submission by Hippynmagic

Hello team Wiki. I'm trying to submit this article about a singer who already has a wikipedia page in her native Polish. Which 'Peacock terms' should I delete? Many thanks Hippynmagic (talk) 18:32, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hippynmagic, I've taken a look at the draft, I don't see any peacockery. Perhaps Accents would explain the issue here. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:34, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

20:44:15, 17 June 2015 review of submission by Chrisfischer1

My page was rejected on grounds of notability, mainly "The scope of their activities is national or international in scale." I think that InnerCity Weightlifting is notable in this sense because it is a unique, and successful solution to a nation-wide problem (gang-violence). In addition, they plan on expanding, and have voiced their intentions. Also, they have received coverage and awards from large, multinational organizations such as ESPN, and Ernst and Young Entrepreneurs of the Year. I would love to elaborate, but I believe that InnerCity is notable enough to be accepted and its scope is national. Chrisfischer1 (talk) 20:44, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Chrisfischer1 - the most obvious problem I see is that the "Media and recognition" section has no references at all - where are all those articles you mention? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 14:39, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

04:59:36, 18 June 2015 review of submission by Rich gitsch

I'm setting up a new article page, and all my References are outside webb pages. Is it more appropriate to list them as "References" or "External Links"?

Rich gitsch (talk) 04:59, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rich gitsch, if you are using a website as a source for the content of the article it is a Reference. External links are basically those sites that provide further in-depth information about the subject but you have not actually used as a reference, with the exception of the subject's own website, even if it is used as a reference it is also listed as an External link. See the Referencing for beginners and External links guides for further details. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:41, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lmelk. I've approved your rewrite at User talk:Lmelk/Museion (Bozen)/Temp. It's now awaiting an administrator to move into your draft at User:Lmelk/Museion (Bozen). This may take a couple of days. Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 13:41, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

15:25:32, 18 June 2015 review of submission by Heatherer

Hi all. I'd like to point editors to a draft I submitted that I believe was wrongfully declined. The reviewing editor, Joseph2302, claims here that my draft copied this press release and violates Wikipedia's copyright policy, but I am confident that it does not. My draft is written in my own words based on numerous reliable, secondary sources (none of them being the press release in question). It's true I was hired by the article's subject to prepare the draft, but I declared my COI upon submitting and was careful to follow all guidelines. I've outlined exactly what happened on the draft's Talk page here. Could others take a look and let me know what they think? I'm also reaching out to Wikipedia:Copyright_problems to ask for the copy violation tag to be removed. Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 15:25, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Heatherer: For what it's worth the reviewed version doesn't look like a copyright violation to me, and the current version even slightly less so. When the text is heavily peppered with long proper names, like "Friedman, Billings, Ramsey Group", "National Geographic Society's Council of Advisors", "Virginia Governor's Advisory Council", and "Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges", the detection tool can exaggerate the likelihood of a violation. Unless Joseph2302 sees something different, I expect your submission will remain in the queue and be reviewed in due course. Worldbruce (talk) 07:24, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for taking a look, Worldbruce! Your explanation is not something I had considered, but it makes a lot of sense. I'm satisfied with how this issue has been resolved and I'm looking forward to a second review. Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 13:17, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

17:56:50, 18 June 2015 review of submission by Gregoryjamesaziz

Unable to find notable content on the subject. Would I be able get some help figuring out where and how to source the subject properly. As well as how to source or copyright the picture.

I would like to use all the information used in the draft, but the only place where it can be found is on the website. The information is not in print and not on any other websites or articles. Proving notability is turning out to be fairly difficult without many online sources. Thank You.

Gregoryjamesaziz (talk) 17:56, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Gregoryjamesaziz:What you would like to be in the draft doesn't really matter. To quote WP:NOR, "If no reliable third-party sources can be found on a topic, Wikipedia should not have an article about it."
This CBC article may help explain the scarcity of usable reliable sources ("We don’t like publicity here / I don’t want to be interviewed / OK, we’re done"). Aziz may understand that an article about oneself isn't necessarily a good thing. Something more company CEOs should understand if they don't want their comments about striking workers juxtaposed with their support of their daughter's show jumping, or don't want to read about how securities fraud charges were eventually dropped after a multi-million dollar settlement. 13:49:37, 19 June 2015 review of submission by Bantammenace

My request to create a page for world-renowned, award-winning body painter Craig Tracy has been denied. What makes him notable beyond that, is that Craig is currently a main judge and producer on the GSN program Skin Wars. His Skin Wars co-judge, Robin Slonina, has a Wikipedia page - why is Craig not notable enough? What can I add in order for the page to meet the standards of notability?

Thanks!

Hi Bantammenace Go back to the draft and read the decline reason and the advice appended to it, in the pink box at the top of the page. There you will find links to guidance on what is required. Short answer - you need more and better sources. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 13:58, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

16:06:24, 19 June 2015 review of submission by Mahmike7

I need help. I don't think I quite understand what I should be doing to get my article created or what type of references are needed. I'm creating an article on Education at Work, a non-profit contact center in Cincinnati. Would anyone be able to provide some guidance?

ThanksMahmike7 (talk) 16:06, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mahmike7 (talk) 16:06, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Mahmike7: The extent to which the draft relies on press releases is troubling. With those sources it's no wonder the draft has struck reviewers as promotional rather than encyclopedic in tone. Also, sources used to demonstrate notability must be reliable sources independent of the subject. WCPO and WXIX are probably solid sources, unless further digging reveals their stories to be regurgitated press releases. The coverage is all local, however, and fails to show national, or at least regional, notability. Based on the cited sources, the subject does not appear to be a suitable topic for an encyclopedia article. Wikipedia is not for advertising, marketing, or public relations. @Usmanehsan11:If you are asking why User:Usmanehsan11/sandbox, about Ali Aftab Saeed of Beygairat Brigade, was rejected, the relevant guideline is: "members of notable bands are redirected to the band's article, not given individual articles, unless they have demonstrated individual notability for activity independent of the band, such as solo releases."
