Nexus 6P (codenamed Angler) is an Android smartphone manufactured by Huawei. It was co-developed with and marketed by Google Inc. as part of its Nexus line of flagship devices and unveiled on September 29, 2015 along with the Nexus 5X. It is a successor to the Nexus 6, with a fingerprint reader, a faster CPU, a slightly smaller display and better cameras, but the removal of wireless charging. The Nexus 6P along with the Nexus 5X serve as launch devices for Android 6.0 "Marshmallow", which introduces a refreshed interface, performance improvements, increased Google Now integration, and other new features.

Specifications

Hardware

The Nexus 6P has a Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor with 3 GB of RAM, and either 32, 64, or 128 GB of internal storage.[3] The battery has a 3450 mAh capacity and uses a USB Type-C connector for charging. This enables it to charge twice as fast as the iPhone 6S Plus.[4] The camera modules are made by Sony (Sony ExmorR IMX 377). The rear facing one has 12.3 megapixels with an f/2.0 aperture, and laser autofocus. The sensor has 1.55 micron pixels which assist photography in low light conditions. It will be capable of 4K resolution video recording, as well as slow-motion video capture, at 240 fps.[5] The front facing camera has 8 megapixels and an f/2.4 aperture.[citation needed]

A fingerprint reader (branded as Nexus Imprint) is located on the rear of the device below the camera.[6] The screen has a 5.7-inch WQHD AMOLED display, resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels (518 ppi), and features Gorilla Glass 4.[7] It will be compatible with Project Fi, Google's own mobile network.[8]

In order to save power, Google has introduced what it calls an 'Android Sensor Hub'. It is a low-power secondary processor and its purpose is to monitor the device's movement by connecting directly to the accelerometer, gyroscope, fingerprint reader, and camera's sensors. This chip runs advanced activity-recognition algorithms that allows it to interpret activities and gestures independently of the main processor. The main CPU needs to only be engaged when something happens that requires more attention. The Sensor Hub recognizes when the device has been picked up and will automatically display notifications in a low-power white-on-black text until the screen has been properly activated. Additionally, the Sensor Hub stack also supports hardware sensor batching, a feature introduced in Kitkat that permits sensors for a short period of time to delay handing off non-critical data to the operating system – as opposed to sending a constant stream of data to the CPU that results in the use of more power. Sensor batching has been used in step counters and therefore does not require the main processor to constantly remain awake as each step is measured.[9][10]
