Untitled

(miss)understood is Ayumi Hamasaki's seventh full-length studio album produced by Max Matsuura. It's official release date was January 1, 2006, but started appearing in stores on December 28, 2005, the last Wednesday of the year.

On this album, there are a total of four singles. "STEP you/is this LOVE?", "fairyland c/w alterna", "HEAVEN", and "Bold & Delicious/Pride". All of the lyrics were written by Hamasaki herself.

GEO of Sweetbox composed 6 songs on (miss)understood originally for themselves and for the lead singer Jade Villalon to sing. Yet, after Ayumi had bought a number of Sweetbox's Greatest Hits album, she decided she loved their music. After she listened to Sweetbox's new demos for their upcoming album Addicted, GEO gave her permission to use:

  • Bold & Delicious
  • Ladies Night
  • Pride
  • Beautiful Girl (Ayu's version is called "Beautiful Day")
  • Every Step (Ayu's version is called "rainy day")

And GEO also gave her permission to use an older Sweetbox demo, featured on their Raw Treasures Volume 1: 2000 - 2005 album

  • In the Corner

However these songs are not classed as covers because Ayumi only used the composition of the song and created her own lyrics around them.

The initial pressings of the album included two photobooks - one for the CD version (entitled off my day), and another for the CD+DVD version (entitled on my way). The DVD version will include all PVs that were made for her 2005 releases (excluding my name's WOMEN) — STEP you, is this LOVE?, fairyland, alterna, HEAVEN, Bold & Delicious and Pride, as well as an alternative PV for Bold & Delicious (called the “Side story”). Two new PVs were also included - Ladies Night and rainy day made their debut on the disc. “Making-of” clips for STEP you, is this LOVE?, fairyland, alterna, HEAVEN and Pride feature also.

Sales

Many Hamasaki fans are concerned that this will become Ayumi's first original studio album not to sell a million copies. [citation needed] Previously, Hamasaki's compilation album, A BALLADS (2003) had trouble selling a million copies but has recently pushed past the sales mark. Nevertheless, (miss)understood was certified triple-platinum by RIAJ, the Recording Industry Association of Japan, in sales and recognised as a million seller for having over a million copies shipped out to stores by the record company.[1] [2]
