Hello and thank you for the help

Well I'm trying to remain calm with this 'person' I will be blunt. I have no problem with 'editors' and contributors or anyone asking why someone has done this or that, or even delegating the rules that need to be adhered to, for a, near peer reviewed, page to be up to the requirements of the wiki's legal obligations etc. But being spoken to in the manor that this person, and two others have that User:Shawn in Montreal was good enough to sort out the first incident, is just not acceptable. I'm not a 'keyboard' warrior, I'm actually a permanently injured former Rock n Roll 'roadie' and former Security specialist, so I take the absolutely blatantly arrogant attitude that some 'editors' I've come across since re-joining the Wiki, to start addressing some of the issues I've found with musical entries on the site, due in the main to my injury to keep my mind busy, to be just that; completely unacceptable. I'm not denying my very un-professional manor of response, but when I give someone an explanation on my actions and it is completely ignored, then I'm treated like a 'peon' by them, well....that's not something I've ever put up with. Respect and manors are paramount, and I return the attitude of the person giving me it in kind. I'm a very polite, but blunt, person in the main, as I don't mince words due to my nature of dealing with pretty serious situation in my careers, literally involving life and death sometimes, as both of them had a degree of personal and external dangers. I'm more than willing to join the commons in good faith and follow due diligence so that my contributions can be useful and constructive to the people that come on here for some information about a subject matter. But there needs to be a resolution to the attitudes of those that have jumped on me from a great height of arrogance and thinking their entitled to do so. It can be said I come on here like a wrecking ball myself, but I've very much learned my lesson about the protocols to follow, and am still learning obviously, but that doesn't excuse the blatant arrogance of not just this person but the two others beforehand that have behaved in kind. I'm not excusing, or trying tot deny, or re-evaluating, my blunt and angry responses to any of these situations I've found myself in, as honesty is also a key word here. Nuro Dragonfly (talk) 02:02, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Nuro Dragonfly and thank you for taking the time to leave me a message. I completely understand how you're feeling; it never feels good to feel treated like a "peon" or a lesser person (especially when you feel that you're trying to be reasonable and make good contributions. You don't know me very well, but I spend most of my Wikipedia time patrolling recent changes and reverting vandalism - you can imagine the number of negative, trolling, and beat-down messages I receive every day (I'll even occasionally receive very angry messages from legitimate editors when I make a mistake; mistakes happen and nobody is perfect). I understand how frustrating and perhaps infuriating that this is. The thing I learned to do in my life experience is to ignore the anger and the negativity. Apologize if you find that you made a mistake, and offer to help and come to a resolution. Kill em with kindnessĀ :-). I want to also acknowledge and commend you on not only your message here, but your message on Drmies's talk page here. This is a step in the right direction. Make peace and seek resolution. If someone is bothering you with negativity, it's okay to call them out on it, but do so nicely. Just say "I feel that your response here (quote exactly what he/she said) was not appropriate because... ", and give them a chance to explain. If you need help with anything, want to talk about something or get an opinion, or just want a mentor - please do not hesitate to message me on my talk page. I'll be happy to help you with anything you need. Please keep in touch and let me know how you're doingĀ :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:24, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. I did come on like a wrecking ball in my initial actions on here since my hiatus and then re-acted poorly to the situation, so honesty is the next step really. I just want to contribute, with what random PC skills I have (I've been building PCs since the Commodore 64, but only learning what code I understand in recent years), as I do like the site and try to defend it to my friends who think it is not 'peer reviewed', so therefore can't be accurate. But as I've just learned it is a bit more complicated than that. I'll just keep my head down now, use a pages talk section first (which is fair enough really considering the effort someone puts into creating said page, which I learned building my Clutch article that is now slated for AfD unfortunately..) and see what can become of consensus. I will say though that I have found some of the editors reasons for AfD on pages, as apposed to ones that are not, to still be somewhat arbitrary, and seam to be more based on personal opinion of what is a 'good' source material, and I say that in the sense if there is multiple 'small' write ups about something that it would be as good as one large written review, but that's IMO of course. Anyway, thanks for the advice and the offer of mentor-ship as I think I will need such guidance with finding my feet here in the commons. Nuro msg me 22:38, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Nuro Dragonfly - It's good to hear back from you. Your acknowledgement regarding your reaction to the situation shows good judgment on your part. You apologized and promised to learn from it and take is as a positive step forward; you did the best things that you could do given the situation. Don't be afraid to ask questions, participate in discussions (if you feel that you can contribute), and voice your thoughts on a subject or interpretation of Wikipedia's guidelines or policies - you don't have to keep your head completely low with the mindset that you're naturally unwelcome to contribute (just don't edit war!Ā :-D). Making mistakes is a fundamental part of learning how Wikipedia works; nobody is expected to be perfect, and I've seen many disputes and arguments between editors go way south. This situation really wasn't that bad. If someone responds in a way where you feel treated like a "peon" (as you described it earlier), or becomes passive aggressive, the best thing to do is ignore the tone and focus on the task or issue at hand. If you do that, you can't loseĀ :-). You're absolutely welcome to message me any time for help, or if you feel that you need some guidance or mentoring. I'll be more than happy to assist you with anything that you need. Don't let the situation hold you back; take the good learning that came from it, and leave the rest behindĀ :-). Cheers, and good luck! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:53, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Just a hello and was wondering if you'd look at some of my work for Code scrutiny as I'm still very much learning. Its the Iron Maiden Singles Track Lists that I've been focusing on, and practicing on really, to get them all some continuity. I'm on through the first few though as I write this, so start at the beginning if you've got the time. Nuro msg me 04:08, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Channel1235 - This appears to be a content dispute that needs to be sorted out with Wanheda on the article's talk page. It is highly recommended that you communicate with this person on the article's talk page and come to a resolution. I see that you've been warned for edit warring; please communicate with the user before making any more changes to the article, as continuing to go back-and-fourth like this without a resolution discussion can get you blocked from editing. Please let me know if you have any questions, or if you and Wanheda need help with dispute resolution. I'll be happy to do so.Ā :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:29, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You deleted my page.

Oshwah, you deleted my page. As you might imagine, I am a little unhappy with this decision. I created that page so that my estranged children could find me, should they decide to look me up. I do not feel like the page was hurting anyone, and I would like you to restore it. Thank you for your cooperation. ā€”Ā Preceding unsigned comment added by Walter.singleton (talk ā€¢ contribs) 17:32, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please let me know if you still have questions after reading Wikipedia's notability policy. I'll be happy to answer them. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:24, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, 68.48.241.158 - I appreciate your response, but this word (by consensus) does imply a viewpoint that isn't neutral. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Words to watch#Puffery - it will answer your questions. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:50, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
guess would have to instead say 'well known' or some such thing as the Wikipedia community doesn't understand what the word actually means...oh well, guess just limits proper communication.. ā€”Ā Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.48.241.158 (talk) 02:58, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Maret Jonsdotter

Hey Oshwah!

This might be a long shot, but I was wondering if you knew anything else about the mark on Maret Jonsdotter's finger. I've been trying to find a description of what it actually looked like. I know it's a strange question- I've been delving into some genealogy and I suspected I might be related to her family. Then I read the bit about her pinky and I couldn't believe it- I've never met anyone else with a strange mark on the same finger and same hand.

Thanks!

Note on HG reversion

Hey Oshwah, I just saw this edit. It was indeed a referenced change, just wrongly formatted. In fact, her death was already stated elsewhere in the article. I don't believe reversion was the best route here, especially given your rationale. It really does discourage new contributors. Best, Airplaneman āœˆ 02:58, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Persephone article

I don't see why my text seemed less objective to you. What I say is a fact! Ancient peoples did not appear out of nowhere having problems with the local languages. They came in waves and intermingled in various ways. When we come to the name Persephone it is impossible to discuss pronunciations. We do not know how it was pronounced. However, scholars do agree that in time various deities and their names were consolidated in specific forms - yet keeping some of their name variations. Claiming that the Greeks could not pronounce the name is a statement you should have removed just as you are doing with mine. It is inaccurate and false. If what put you off is my ending remark then you are right. I will remove it. I placed it there because I could not believe the stupidity of the observation in an article that has the outlook of seriousness. That combination sort of scholarly infuriated me In any case, the article also names Persephone a spring goddess while she is not that at all. Persephone is a fall deity 107.213.152.232 (talk) 03:59, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Woodstock IL, Edits

Hey Oshwah!

I understand why you would think my edits to "Woodstock, IL" are vandalism; However, I truly believe that this is a constructive and important piece of information that is appropriate for this page.

I don't think it is fair for my contributions to be censored especially when it means denying the public their right to information. This is what Wikipedia is all about, sharing information with everyone.

Why do I have problems with my page JellyYT? ā€”Ā Preceding unsigned comment added by MihailoGlavonjic (talk ā€¢ contribs) 08:51, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, MihailoGlavonjic and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for leaving me a message with your question. The reason that your article was deleted was because it was of a non-notable person, and the article didn't indicate why the person was significant. This is explained in-depth on Wikipedia's speedy deletion page under the exact criterion here. Before adding an article, I highly recommend that you check that the article subject meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines first, as it will save you a significant amount of time and frustration. A good tutorial that you should read through is Wikipedia:Your first article. It will go over everything that you need to know. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns. I'll be happy to assist you. Happy editing!Ā :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:10, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Can you make it? ā€”Ā Preceding unsigned comment added by MihailoGlavonjic (talk ā€¢ contribs) 08:51, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
MihailoGlavonjic - Even if I did, it wouldn't make a difference if the article doesn't meet the notability and verifiability guidelines; it doesn't matter who creates the article. If you need assistance creating the article while you actively do so, you can do this by following the directions in Wikipedia:Articles for creation. It will show you how to create a draft, and then submit it for creation once you're done. You can also get assistance while you're in the middle of its creation. Please let me know if you have any more questions. I'll be happy to answer them. Good luck! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:12, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Removing Images from the article "Buffalo Meat"

As you reverted my changes I humbly request you to remove these images because:

1. The image in the "Production" Section is quite offensive. It does not have any relationship with the production of buffalo meat. Buffalo meat is not produced like this. For the production of buffalo meat, there is a proper slaughterhouse. 2. This page is created with an aim to end all the dispute between the people of India who frequently fight because they are not able to differentiate between Buffalo Meat and Cow (Which Is a sacred animal according to Hindu methodology) meat. There are a lot of riot due to this misconception. If you can remove these images I shall be highly grateful ā€”Ā Preceding unsigned comment added by Imran3107 (talk ā€¢ contribs) 13:29, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Imran3107, this may be how Buffalo meat is made in a different country or culture (I'm not an expert on this however). Please remember that Wikipedia is not sensored; being offended by an image is not, within itself, a reason to remove it. If there are other issues such as accuracy, this is a different story. Instead of continuing to remove the image after other users have put them back, you should discuss your concerns on the article's talk page and make sure to ping the users that have restored them. This will help you to properly resolve the issues. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:52, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

February 2016 unsourced/original content as vandalism

My apologies on not citing Jim Edgar, Lester Crown, and Leonard H. Lavin correctly. I am trying to add the Lincoln Academy Award. I am not intentionally vandalizing these particular pages. Just unsure how you want it cited. I tried another way and used the template and still couldn't get it to go. Help? Please do not block me! Fivelanski query

Excuse the late reply, I'm having some trouble navigating this thing.
I saw a request for citations to support information on the page for the band Diamondhead and its influence on the band Metallica, and thought I would add supporting information from the mouth of Metallica founder Lars Ulrich. The source is a 2008 interview from the British TV show Later ... with Jools Holland, I don't have the exact date but I could find out. Is there a simple way for me to do this?

Thanks

Fivelanski (talk) 19:59, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Fivelanski - Thanks for leaving me a message with your question! No apologies needed; I'm glad you're here now. Do you need help finding the source, or do you need help citing the source? If you need help with finding the source, there are search engines and tools on the internet that can assist you with that. If you need help citing the source, Wikipedia:Inline citation will show you how to use the <ref></ref> tags and cite the article properly with the source you found. Just make sure that the sources you use are reliable per Wikipedia's reliable sources guidelines. Please let me know if you have any more questions. How can you spot possible vandalisms and fix them so quickly?

I am not experienced at reverting vandalism or any stuff like that but I am just wondering how can you do it so quickly? Do you have any particular tool for doing this? Is there anything I can do to help with vandalism, other than scrolling all over the recent changes page and occasionally find a vandalized page? Thanks.Wishds (talk) 03:43, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Wishds and thanks for leaving me a message with your questions! Well, I've been reverting vandalism for over 8 years now; proficiency is definitely improved with tools, but long-term experience is a significant factor as well. Speaking of tools, you asked about vandalism tools. Yes, there are many tools that assist with reverting vandalism. Check out Wikipedia:Cleaning up vandalism/Tools - it has a list of all of the most-used tools that editors use to combat vandalism. My advice is to not run to the tool that helps you do it the fastest (that actually can cause more harm than good, as mistaken reverts also will occur quicker). Go for the tool that's easy for you and that you feel comfortable with. The first tool that I used (and used for a few years) was Lupin's Anti-vandal tool. It basically filters the Recent Changes list and displays only the edits that match a blacklist of words. Please let me know if you have any more questions. I'll be more than happy to assist you and point you in the right direction. Happy vandal fighting!Ā :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:52, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This user talk page you recently edited, (User:Nevets20), is an alternate sock account for User:The Reptilian Agenda, both are now blocked. I have advised this user to appeal his block on his original account. As you can see, instead of doing that, he his continuing to use this alternate account talk page to make personal attacks. You removed one such attack, but then re-added it. I wondering why you did that instead of blocking talk page access? Hi, Thewolfchild - Ah! So, it's because I managed to derp somehow, apparently. Request

Hi, I wonder if you can help out with two articles where the editor, who disagrees with the material, is removing the WP:RS cited content. In addition, they are also editing the cited content, which results in misrepresentation of sources. This appears to be a similar situation to Friedrich von Mellenthin, where you were involved, so I'm reaching out to you. If you could help out and then add this article to your watchlist, that would be great.

Articles:

Diffs: #2, removal and changing of citations, after a revert; #1, removal of section

Diffs: #2, removal (after a revert); #1, removal and changing of citations

Please let me know if there are some other avenues I should pursue instead. Thank you. K.e.coffman (talk) 16:09, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

First, I did not have misinterpreted any source. Just questioned your objections and contributions. The meaning of the cited passages were neither altered nor distorted in any way. The removal of the section at Michael Wittmann came due the redudancy in my eye, as the same narrative appeared on List of World War II Panzer aces from Germany. After you restored it, I kept it up, with little corrections.
  • Why Kurowski is a "guru"?
You present no context, and merely say that he romanticise German war effort. So I went along and edited that sobriquet, "guru" out.
  • "having a battlefield advantage rather than a tactical one."
That's not exactly what Zaloga have said: "Aside from clash between grossly unequal tank types, most tank skirmishes were won depending on battlefield advantages, not technical advantages."
  • I_nvincible Tiger I
Which relevance it has to say that the Tiger I was invulnerable most of its time? Its more enough to cut down the sentence of the Tiger I to "Zaloga points out that Wittmann achieved 120 of these in 1943, operating a Tiger I tank on the Eastern Front. Having advantages both in firepower and in armor."
Other edits, were made to reduce fat, like all the German sentences, next to their cication. The cut down of the article at List of World War II Panzer aces from Germany was mainly done for the sake of internal consistency, like similar lists on ww2 aces. Speedy Deletion

I recently created a page named 'Neel Ranjan Mukherjee' but my page has been tagged for speedy deletion because the information has been directly taken from a website. But this is the only information I have about the artist and every single site has the same information. I don't want my page to be deleted. What do I do?

Oishid3006 (talk) 08:03, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Oishid3006 - You absolutely cannot copy text straight from a source like this. This is a copyright violation, which is a serious issue and can get your account blocked from editing. You need to paraphrase the source that you're referencing, and then cite the source in the article. Also, I noticed that you removed the speedy deletion tag from the article. You cannot remove speedy deletion tags from articles that you've created yourself. You instead must follow the directions on the tag in order to properly contest the deletion. Please let me know if you have any more questions. I'll be happy to answer them. Cheers ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:17, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I very recently edited the Birmingham Airport (UK) page. I removed Beijing Capital Airlines' flights to Beijing and Hangzhou from the destination list because these flights are still unconfirmed and no start date has been announced. Until a start date is officially announced, these flights shouldn't be displayedā€”they were previously displayed without a start date, which gives the impression that they are already operating.86.113.22.101 (talk) 10:26, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ad Hominem due to Graham's hierarchy of disagreement on Xiongnu

Hi Oshwah,

There are some trusted resources about Xiongnu page which I try to revert, but user named Kansas Bear, keeps changing it without addressing the substance of argument, only explanation he makes is some socks did this edits, so whatĀ ? Just because some socks did the same editing are we going to ignore resources from Harvard University Press and U of Bristol.

130.88.99.223 - I have reviewed your changes and have accepted them into the article. I agree that they seem legitimate and don't appear to be problematic. It's a common practice to remove edits made by a blocked or banned user. But what can happen occasionally is, depending on the extent of the malicious edits caused by the user, it can be assumed that all of their changes are illegitimate which leads to having their changes rolled back without being reviewed (I've been guilty of doing that many times in the past). Mistakes can happen and it's nobody's fault; the reviewers were simply acting in good faith to try and protect the project. On a side note, the edit summary you entered on this edit is not acceptable. It constitutes incivility and is a personal attack against other editors here. Please do not engage in this kind of conduct. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me them. I'll be happy to assist you. Thank you for your patience, and I wish you happy editing. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:04, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Oshwah - I would like to thank you very much for your concern, and your understanding. I accept that I did a mistake while writing that edit summary, i am sorry about that, but I was watching this article probably since 3 months and every time I did some changes, a few users like Kansas edited it without addressing it's substance, that made me a bit nervous and pushed me to think that some users are acting in disruptive and even nationalistic ways, but now I do believe that they were acting in good faith . But still, I am going to continue watching that article, and I may need to ask you for help in the future. (I hope I won't). Anyway, thank you very much for your understanding again.--130.88.99.223 (talk) 19:26, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Oshwah,Unfortunately, i need your help on Xiongnu again, instead of discussing the content, Kansas Bear and his fellows are reverting the edits again amd again.I really dont want to enter a edit war. Hi, 130.88.99.231, or... Defenderofthruth. Since this appears to be a dispute over content, you need to start a discussion on the article's talk page and discuss the issue there (just make sure to ping Kansas Bear and the other users involved). Vaughan Williams Vandalism

You reverted a "contribution" today to an article on Ralph Vaughan Williams: 09:20, 29 February 2016ā€Ž 78.158.66.93 (talk)ā€Ž Several other examples of vandalism have been posted by this user - or from this school address - over the last two years. Could you do something more drastic and have this so-called user blocked? (I don't know how to initiate such action). John Hamilton (talk) 14:44, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Oldfaw, and thanks for leaving me a message with your concerns. A block can not occur yet, as the IP has not caused enough disruption to warrant one at this time. The last edit that the IP made before their edit to Ralph Vaughan Williams was on February 9. If this user continues to be disruptive, you can file a report at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. This is the proper channel that everyone goes through in order to report a user and have them blocked. However, the account or IP has to have caused enough disruption and be warned a sufficient amount of times first (depending on how extreme the damage is, the "cutoff" varies). I highly recommend that you read Wikipedia's blocking policy before reporting anybody, so that you'll know when the right time is to do so. Please let me know if you have any more questions. I'll be happy to answer them. Happy editing!Ā :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:55, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Volodymyr the Great

Because Volodymyr it's a Ukrainian name not (Vladimir) he was Kyivan prince, Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine. So I added changes in the page, and also change Kiev into Kyiv (because this is the correct transliteration from Ukrainian language) ā€”Ā Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.45.140.2 (talk) 15:36, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • (talk page stalker) It doesn't matter what the modern day transliteration of the name is from the Ukrainian language since Vladimir the Great ruled Kievan Rus, a country that predates the country of Ukraine by 1,000 years and the Ukrainian language by 500 years. The only transliterations that matter are from Old East Slavic and Old Norse, the languages spoken in Kievan Rus and by Vladimir the Great. You can spell the name any way you want on the Ukrainian language Wikipedia, but here, on the English language Wikipedia, we use the common name in English, i.e. Vladimir. • With the text "Erected by Ukrainians in Great Britain" clearly written on the foundation of the statue, plus the totally anachronistic claim that Vladimir was "ruler of Ukraine", a country that didn't exist until a thousand years later. So the spelling of the name on that statue has nothing whatsoever to do with what is in common use in the English speaking world. We use Vladimir the Great, Kiev and so on, and will continue to do so until the common names in English language media have changed, which with all probability will take many years (after many hundreds of years Wien is still Vienna in English, KĆøbenhavn still Copenhagen, Roma still Rome and Moskva still Moscow; just to name a few of the hundreds if not thousands of foreign language names that are different in English compared to in their original languages). Hi! I suggested the speedy deletion for Christian Layland under WP:N that you removed, on the basis of a Google News search shows a single news source referring to the subject in the context of the article's main claim to notability (a football podcast), and no News or Scholar archive results. Further, the majority of the external links (thefootballsack.com) are from the website of the article's subject. I still think it fails the WP:N criteria, but I'm not sure whether to nominate for deletion under the AfD process, or whether a suggestion that it be merged with an article about said blog - any advice for a new editor? ā€”Ā Preceding unsigned comment added by Tiredgrad (talk ā€¢ contribs) 04:34, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Is it okay to do? No. You should read Wikipedia's guidelines on conflict of interest. Editing articles where you have a conflict of interest is highly discouraged behavior. Hi, Chursaner! Again, I welcome you to Wikipedia with open arms and an open talk page. You're more than welcome to message me here at any time with any questions or requests for help. I fixed the page that you linked; it looks like someone removed the text from the essay and it was never fixed. I'll look into it more and figure out why that happened. You were actually very close! you had put {{db|1=author}} on the top of the page you created; it just needed to be {{db-author}} instead. So you were on the right track! I apologize if the essay you provided was confusing, but it should be fixed nowĀ :-). Please do not hesitate to leave me a message if you have any more questions or if you need more help. I'll be happy to give you a hand! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:11, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! That was me that deleted the text.. I read somewhere that making the page blank was one way to get a speedy deletion ā€”Ā Preceding unsigned comment added by Chursaner (talk ā€¢ contribs) 16:12, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you are correct in that blanking the article or page you created yourself will prompt another editor to tag the article for G7. However, it's usually better if you add the tag yourself (if possible), as it will save other editors time. No worries, though! You're new, and being bold is what Wikipedia is all about!Ā :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:15, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I need your help with a user

Hello, I have been reviewing a user's contributions, and I have noticed that they have been changing or adding unnecessary racial and religious identities to people within the articles. The user is anonymous, and has made numerous changes. The user's IP is 74.95.112.141. If it is not too much trouble, would you review the contributions? HowlingAngel (talk) 05:27, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, HowlingAngel! Sure can! Are there any specific articles or diffs that I should know about? This will point me in the right direction. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:40, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Since the user has changed so many, if you do find the changes to be unnecessary, you may want to review the user's contributions page. However, I'll provide some of the articles here.
Timeline of nursing history , History of surgery , Donald Soffer , Daniel Hale Williams
I reverted the edit on Daniel Hale Williams. If it was not a correct action, please undo it. I hope this helps, and thanks for helping me! HowlingAngel (talk) 05:52, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I think your reversion was correct, as the picture clearly isn't of an African-American person. It could have been an honest mistake though; remember to assume good faith. Were there other examples that you reverted? This IP has made a lot of contributions; it'll be hard to go through every single one.Ā :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:25, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There are some other examples. On the page Timeline of nursing history there seems to be some changes that are not exactly reliable. The problem, however, is the user made multiple changes to the article in separate sequences, making it hard to tell what information should be reviewed. Some of the information looks as if it's unsourced, while parts of the timeline have been removed, or events changed. HowlingAngel (talk) 06:31, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. sources was provided in both Brahmanbaria District and Akhaura Upazila page. But after all whats the reason to delete? Can you please explain? Bangla1234 (Bangla124|talk) (EST) 3:25 March 2016.

Me, Myself and I by G-Eazy and Bebe Rexha

You recently removed an edit I made to "Me, myself and I" song in the background section. My edit was made based of this interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=on8F2OXGfJw Bebe Rexha gave for a radio and the source was linked to that paragraph. So before removing stuff , check the sources before. You thought was biased, well you could have opened the video of the interview and heard the exact thing in words said by the writer of the song, it was just a transcript. ā€”Ā Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.69.5.52 (talk) 09:44, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry!

Sorry about my edit. I wanted to say that the citations for the info you removed on the Timothy Parker page is the same FiveThirtyEight.com article. I don't know how to cite that because I'm a noob, but I think it is important information for the page. Xmaster8621 (talk) 15:07, 5 March 2016 (UTC)Xmaster8621[reply]

Hi, Xmaster8621! No apologies needed. It appears that the information added was the same by two different users (or the same user while logged out) - each without citing any sources. There was also issues regarding Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, which was why I removed the content. All in all, it's a content dispute that needs to be discussed on the article's talk page by everyone involved. There's been too much reverting, and too little (well none) discussion happening, which is why I filed a report and will leave it to another pair of eyes to investigate and step in. If you have any questions or concerns, my talk page is always open.Ā :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:12, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Wikipedia Members,

I am writing to you today to inform you that my ex-husband Carl-Edward von Bismarck's wikipedia site has been tampered with and manipulated. I have tried to correct the basic errors of my name and marriage history. Unfortunately, someone has been meddling with it and using the wikipedia site for personal vendettas and defamation of character. I would like to state my true corrections in this email once more. I will correct such one more time now. If it will be tampered with again, i will hold whoever is responsible in a court of law. It is my right to have my name spelled correctly. It is my right to have my marriage history recorded and as the mother of my children.

My ex-husband last year has hacked into my Facebook account. He has changed my name, my profile picture, took off all my life contacts and has connected with my friends on Facebook impersonating me. I have reached out to Facebook and discovered through them that the new domain holder for such doing was my ex-husband's email. Facebook has given me the option to bring him on criminal charges. I have decided to let it rest and not bring him on criminal charges, i fixed my Facebook account and started a new one.

However, if these actions continue one more time on Wikipedia I will have no choice but to bring on charges whoever is tampering with it. I apologize in advance for approaching you with such an unfortunate subject and i ask you please to make sure history is recorded correctly.

Here are my changes:

1) My legal name today: Countess Nathalie von Bismarck Bariman 2) My name before marriage: Nathalie Bariman (and not Boriman as was tampered with) 3) I was married to Carl-Edward von Bismarck from 2004 to 2014. 4) We have two children together: Count Alexei von Bismarck 9 years old, Countess Grace von Bismarck 7 years old.

Again, i thank you for taking the time with the hope that you can help me put this disturbing matter to rest. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further questions you may have.

All the best, Countess Nathalie von Bismarck Bariman. ā€”Ā Preceding unsigned comment added by Khaoz529k (talk ā€¢ contribs) 16:05, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Taoism article

Hi Oshwah,

In response to your message: I made several different edits, and it seems all of them have been reversed. I took the time to provide detailed explanations for each of those edits (found in the article history), but all of them have been reversed without any individual responses given. Saying that a variety of different edits do not adhere to a neutral point of view is not very clear. This is especially important considering that none of the edits I made actually added any text to the article. Further, one of the edits was correcting an entirely objective mistake - the misplacement of the Tao Te Ching image in the I Ching section instead of the Tao Te Ching section. By undoing my edits, that image has now been returned to the incorrect location; it is difficult for me to see how this is a point-of-view issue.

As such, could you examine the reasons I gave for each edit and explain why you feel each of them do not adhere to a neutral point of view? Sunkencathedral (talk) 17:09, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Sunkencathedral and thank you for your message. I took a look at your previous edit; I thought that you added some content that didn't appear neutral, but I just realized that you simply moved it. I went ahead and restored the page back to the state that it was in with your edits applied. Please accept my apologies for the confusion. If you need anything else, please let me know. Thanks again for leaving me a message regarding your concerns. I very much appreciate it, and I wish you happy editing!Ā :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:15, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, thank you very much for returning the article, and for your prompt reply! I was very confused about why they had been removed; but it was just an honest mistake, it's no problem at all. Thanks again, and happy editing! Sunkencathedral (talk) 17:18, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, F4d3d123 - That is an excellent question! Wikipedia's help page with Contributing to Wikipedia is a great place to start if you're looking for somewhere to start diving in and helping out with, but aren't sure where yet. You can also browse Wikipedia's page on WikiProjects; it will let you search for projects that interest you, so you can start getting involved and helping with the articles or content that they're currently working on. Please feel free to message me again if you need more ideas, but these two places should surely set you in the correct direction. Welcome to Wikipedia! Question about edit reverted

Hi Oshwah, I am currently at an edit-a-thon at UIUC. OOKbook is a participant and I was showing this new user Talk page protocol -- making sure the comment pings the user, proper signature, etc. Is it preferred that a response to a Talk page comment go on that user's Talk page instead? Vaparedes (talk) 19:23, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Vaparedes! Thanks for letting me know! I reverted your changes to OOKbook's talk page because you modified a comment that OOKbook made, which is typically not allowed and will be reverted (since other editors won't know about your involvement in the Wikipedia Meetup). However, since your objective was simply to give the user an in-person tutorial over talk pages, I personally don't see any problem with it. It would be a better idea to show this person a tutorial by either adding a new message to his/her talk page, or editing a talk page message that you left. This way, it won't result in reversions or confusion by other editors that are patrolling. If you have any more questions, or if you need any help, please do not hesitate to respond and ask. I'll be more than happy to lend you a hand! Good luck at the Meetup!Ā :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:29, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information on 71.179.21.197

Hello Oshwah! I was suspicious of 71.179.21.197, and so looked up his IP. The result is here: http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip/71.179.21.197 This indicates that the user is based in Ellicott City, MD. I then looked up Timothy Parker, and found this: http://www.whitepages.com/name/Timothy-E-Parker-Jr./Ellicott-City-MD/i7zf4j1, which is very likely the Timothy Parker from this article, as it shares the age, city, and middle initial of the Tim Parker in the article. Since the White Pages link provided the address, I looked to see exactly how close the IP was to his address. Quite close, imo: http://www.latlong.net/convert-address-to-lat-long.html

I don't know if any of this is helpful in making any decisions, but it does seem very likely that Tim Parker used both a registered account to edit his own page, and then used an unregistered one when he was caught.

help with Lenka Clayton page

I started a draft for Lenka Clayton today, Mar 5, the same day as another page on her was started, which you flagged. Anyway to get my draft moved to article and the other flagged page deleted? Or at least to get the info combined and improved? thank you Lu.heintz (talk) 21:31, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lu.heintz, and thanks for leaving me a message with your questions. I see two pages right now: One is Lenka Clayton, which will be deleted because the creator copied text straight from external sources (which is a big violation of Wikipedia's copyright policy). The other is your draft. As soon as the "non-drafted" article is deleted, your draft can replace the previous article in its place (once it has been reviewed and accepted). For now, you just need to sit tight; someone will resolve the matters and your article will be reviewed. Please let me know if you have any more questions. my edit, which you reverted, consisted of removing a storyline which consisted of repeating the infobox in a text, in broken English and with ZERO refs. WP is all about references, is it not? I have been here for almost ten years, so I think I was operating within the guidelines there.

Plip!

Hi, you nominated Sofia stella feldstein for speedy delete. However that was only 1 minute after creation. You should give the writer a chance, say around 1 hour to get in a claim of importance, and some references. They may now be frightened off. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 04:48, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article may have deserved a speedy delete, after waiting, but hopefully a blp prod will have the same outcome, either stimulate the writer to indicate notability, or it will get the chop. Numerous other SD taggers are getting in too fast too. There is a lot of over-enthusiasm around. I am trying out the different sized fish. I don't think it deserves a full sized trout! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 06:11, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Graeme Bartlett - I completely agree; I usually wait at least 15 minutes after the article's creation before considering any claim of significance CSD tag. It's the right thing to do, as "racing to be the first person to CSD that article" is absolutely a BITE to newcomers, and it's not what CSD was meant for. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:23, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Recent revisions to the Henryk Fuchsbrunner article

Hey there, I got your message about the reversion of my revisions to the Henryk Tauber/Fuchsbrunner article. My goal with the edits was cleaning up the grammar, improving the clarity of the article and reducing redundancy. For one example, he's referred to by three different last names in the article - Tauber (his birth name), Fuchsbrunner (the name he was most often known by), and Fuchs (the changed spelling of his name once he immigrated to the U.S.). I just changed all of the references to Fuchsbrunner for clarity. The last paragraph I deleted contained all material that was either unverifiable or contained in earlier paragraphs already, and the rest of the edits were just to make the writing grammatically correct. Of course, it doesn't bother me if the reversion stands. 98.203.240.70 (talk) 07:16, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding The Asterisk War's premise I found on the Crunchyroll site, I found its premise to be more accurate (coming from what I watched of the show):

Invertia (meteor storm)ā€¦ an unprecedented disaster that struck the world during the 20th century.

Because of this disaster, numerous cities around the world were destroyed. However, within the meteor, an unknown element called mana (the all-encompassing element), was discovered, which allowed human technology to make rapid strides.

This also gave rise to a new species of human born with unique skills ā€“ the Star Pulse Generation (Genestella).

The setting for the worldā€™s greatest comprehensive battle spectacle, the Festas (Star Warrior Festivals), is an academy city above the water surrounded by six academies called Rikka also commonly known as Asterisk. Having transferred into Seidoukan Academy in order to fulfill his own wish, scholarship student Ayato Amagiri swears he too will fight in this city.

Burning souls raceā€¦

The curtain rises on this school battle spectacle! ā€”Ā Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.5.114.106 (talk) 12:58, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello.

Thank you for taking an interest in Libyan Investment Authority. All edits made by me were in a good faith, not in favour of any party as they represent current, ongoing situation - leadership dispute between Abdulmagid Breish and Hassan Bouhadi. They both claim chairmanship and until Court ruling is available (which is supposed to be in two weeks time) this information should be available not to mislead readers.

The following articles (used as references) clearly represents this neutral point of view:

It doesn't matter. You're engaging in edit warring by continuously reverting content back-and-fourth with another user (See Wikipedia's three-revert rule). These policies exist in order to drive discussion. Edit warring can (and usually will) result in being blocked from editing. Please discuss the content dispute on the article's talk page with the other user. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:47, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A note about Ostriches

Dear sir,

I am from Uzbekistan and know that it is generally considered an ill omen to eat ostrich, as some consider it black magic over there. Now, when I came to America, I noticed that ostrich is not only eaten in some restaurants, but eaten as a exquisite meat, such as restaurants swerving Ostrich burgers. Unsurprisingly, this was a strange and disorienting experience for me, but opened my eyes to the world around me as to how cultures appear different in other people's eyes. I find it confusing as to why you reverted this edit. I noted you said I needed a citation? I understand the need, I suppose, but as a person who has lived there for a good amount of his life, isn't a first person account a detailed enough response? It works well enough for stories of Junius Caesar, and I note he is present on this online center of information. I ask you to please allow this note to remain present on this page which I am quite found of. Thank you, and have a great day. ā€”Ā Preceding unsigned comment added by Spencertmiller (talk ā€¢ contribs) 14:12, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
