Wikpedia currently carries a US English Title and for this Topic and appears to be aggressively defending it. The Oxford Dictionary sides withe Torch- a portable means of illumination, acknowledging the US word of "FLASHLIGHT" as an alternative despite this being used initially as a product description by manufacturer. Changing this would seem to be the correct thing to do. The word Torch, is, it seems , being adopted in US English to describe a Stick with with combustible material at one end, which is up to the US. However, if Wikpedia is genuinely to become a world resource, the world -wide name in use should take preference. Until this is the case, Wikpedia should carry a Language disclaimer at the forefront of any definition that the dominant content in Wikpedia will be US English and that the Definitions contained are only appropriate to The US. WIKPEDIA should also stop asking for donations from outside the US if they wish only to serve the one Language and region.

The same would be said in the Petrol vs Gasoline argument. More countries around the world say Petrol Rather than Gasoline but guess which one Wikpedia uses.

Problem

This popped up on a wikipedia page I was looking at today: I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen have been undone because they did not appear constructive.Bold text

I did not attempt to edit a 'pokemon fireRed' or 'LeafGreen' page nor did anyone in my household? Why do you have my IP address?: Why did I get that message? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.27.25.155 (talk) 19:37, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi 174.27.25.155, that warning was from 14 August 2016, you must have seen the pop-up as the original editor did not re-visit Wikipedia at the time. Unless you specifically pay for a static IP address ISPs can change your IP address. Don't worry it was a long time ago and no one would assume the current user was the same person. However I will remove the old warning now to avoid any confusion. Regards KylieTastic (talk) 19:43, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reverting my mistake in C shell

I was just trying what something looked like in preview in the Wikipedia app when I accidentally hit the save key. Because the app doesn't show history I had to go to the browser, pull up the Wikipedia site, specify the desktop site, and then try to cope with the tiny screen on my phone. By the time I got there to hit “undo”, you had already fixed it, so thanks again. 199.188.194.101 (talk) 19:53, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request to check on user Immortal1nstrumentz

Hello KylieTastic,

The user User:Immortal1nstrumentz's only contributions so far have been to try again and again to submit a page for acknowledged self-publicity, and vandalising repeatedly the page ReBoot: The Guardian Code. Maybe this guy's activity should be monitored more closely. Thanks in advance!88.182.48.88 (talk) 19:06, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding reverted wiki page

Hello! I was making a page for a company CEO on their request. I too like you craves perfection because of which I did multiple edits. It's a misunderstanding to think of it as vandalism. Please verify the final data as it's genuine. Also there is no other wiki page regarding the same person so don't include it in Wikipedia commons.

Ms Kylie can you please help me in making the page ? Plzz

Are you a comp generated message ?

Sunbury

Thank you for reviewing and undoing the recent vandalism to the Sunbury page. I suspect that the addition of Shawn Miller as a notable person to the Sunbury page may have also been vandalism, but didn't feel experienced enough to make that call, and am writing to ask if you would be willing to review that page again (and revise if need be). My apologies for the length of this message to you, but I wanted to provide you with enough information to help determine whether or not there was earlier vandalism.

There was a revision done by an unidentified user (who was identfied only by a user IP) at 14:23 on 13 April 2018, which made changes to vandalism cleanup done by Denisarona at 14:18 on 13 April 2018. That revision by the unidentified user added two "notable people" (Shawn Miller and Angel Maisonette) to the notable people from Sunbury list. It appears that both of those "notable people" were fake - based on the wording of their entries - "(Shawn Miller, Oscar Winning Film Director, known for films like Underground Criminal Institute and Mississippi Street. He is also a seven time best director winner. He is currently president." and " Angel Maisonette, A world famous actor who has won six Oscars. He is known for his collaborations with critically acclaimed film maker Shawn Miller. He was also Shawn Miller's running mate in the 2048 election, and is currently vice president.").

I removed the reference to Shawn Miller's having become president, but then when looking at the page a few days later, realized that the entire Shawn Miller entry should probably have been deleted. (It looks like someone else already removed the entry for "Angel.")

When you have a moment, could you please take a look and, if the entry for "Shawn Miller" was vandalism, could you please also remove that entry from the notable people list? The link for the comparison between the unidentified user's revisions to Denisarona's vandalism cleanup is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sunbury%2C_Pennsylvania&type=revision&diff=836235643&oldid=836235062

Thanks in advance for your help. 47thPennVols (talk) 00:12, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi 47thPennVols, yes its junk and I've removed. An "Oscar Winning Film Director" would have an article but Shawn Miller is an NFL player. Also the fact that you reverted the account "Shawnyboy321" would indicate Shawn Miller is the name of the person doing the vandalism. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 08:57, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi, User:KylieTastic. Thanks so much for your help and guidance. Just wanted to let you know I fixed another instance of vandalism on the Sunbury page this morning. Someone from 209.173.6.129, the IP address that appears to have committed a prior act of vandalism, undid your edit which removed the Shawn Miller entry. (In addition to adding that Shawn Miller entry again, this user also undid my prior removal of the "Shawn Miller 'won the 2048 election'" statement.) It appears that this page is under some sort of attack, for lack of a better word, by one or more people. Should the multiple instances of vandalism be reported to someone at Wikipedia, and if so, is that something you could do? (I'm wondering if some kind of a warning could be sent by Wikipedia to the offending User IPs.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47thPennVols (talkcontribs) 15:19, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi 47thPennVols, I have just added anther warning now at level 3 for the month. Note that its a school IP address and has been blocked on multiple occasions, that last one lasting for 3 years and recently ending. Some schools appear not to care. If you want to know more about anti-vandalism see Wikipedia:Vandalism and note that Wikipedia:Twinkle is the easiest way to add user warnings, and report to WP:AIV in they continue after a recent level 4 warning. It also allows you to request page protection easily WP:RPP if more than one account is active vandalising. If in doubt you can just ask for help at the Wikipedia:Teahouse. Hope that helps. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 15:31, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi User:KylieTastic|KylieTastic, Thanks so much for your help. (I had a hunch that the vandalism might have been caused by a student.) I'll definitely check out the resources. In the meantime, am hoping the block ends the vandalism to the Sunbury page. Have a great week! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47thPennVols (talkcontribs) 15:53, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Re.: Correction

@KylieTastic: Hello. Regarding your 7th April amendment to 'Ajanta Caves', wouldn't an explanation or link to a relevant Wikipedia style-guide be more constructive and informative than the comment provided? People need to learn, after all. :) Muinn (talk) 22:39, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Muinn, sorry that is one of the corrections with a generic edit summary that covers many reasons most of which are created by user who know but are just doing large numbers of changes and make the odd mistake. It's just the nature of the amount of work that we can't always fully explain things, note that is just one of ~2000 edits so far this month. If I notice the same name doing the same type of error more than one I would add more or leave them a message, or if they notice (and I assume most don't) and don't understand I would expect them to ask. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 09:07, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

IP user problem

This IP user consist of 83.136.45.131, 83.136.45.141 and 86.41.16.147 have been filling the articles related to MG and Rover with inaccurate information. For example he changing the production year of performance version of a vehicle such as a MG ZR which started production in 2001–2005 and merging it with the Rover 200 and 25 production year to 1995-2005. I don't know what to do other then reverting it manually

UPDATE: Okay I reverted the user's edit manually. This person must of disliked SAIC Motor acquirement of Rover and MG and was replacing with unsourced information. --Vauxford (talk) 09:47, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Vauxford, I have come across several users in the past that have dubiously changed production dates and models etc of cars. However many such articles are poorly sourced so its difficult to say if they are vandals, or just working from other data sources. Sometimes its because of working from a different country (the IPs listed above are Dublin and Cork). However if you are such its vandalism, and edits such as this do appear to be, then you should give them a warning. See Wikipedia:Vandalism and note that Wikipedia:Twinkle is the easiest way to add user warnings, and report to WP:AIV in they continue after a recent level 4 warning. However in this case these were all 10/11 April so its not an ongoing problem, so reverting and hoping they don't come back is the correct thing to do. Most vandals get bored very quickly, and those that done get longer and longer blocks. Regards KylieTastic (talk) 11:14, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, I think I resolved all the edits they done but I will know that next time. Many thanks --Vauxford (talk) 12:06, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

SEEK Records

My links was updated now and now are not DEAD, this page is about good known record LABEL in years: 2005-2010 (internet was not so reach of articles about SEEK those time to proof like you want), plus firm interent sites does not work anymore like seekrecords.net or myspace/seekrecrods. Anyway...There was lot of releases WORLDWIDE what everybody can see at DISCOGS.com (music encyclopedia!!!) or YOUTUBE, so hope WIKIPEDIA will be more respectful for countries like Poland not only to German and other creators. Please for example look at KOMPAKT record label, from Germany. Okay they have more releases and good know producers and still working until these days, but seriously SEEK was the first Polish DIGITAL record label from this part of Europe and totally there must be proof on the encyclopedia that such a thing has taken place. Especially since the label was issued Philippe Zdar (CASSIUS) what u can see. World WIKI totally bans all articles, more than the national pages of WIKI, maybe u could tell my WHY? (TerazAlboNigdy (talk) 14:51, 23 April 2018 (UTC))[reply]

  • Hi TerazAlboNigdy, I haven't re-reviewed Draft:SEEK Records as two other reviewers have already done so after myself. Note that being Polish has nothing to do with the declines. Articles like Kompakt may not pass notability and could be challenged and deleted if not - Other stuff exists is not a good argument, as it's more likely to get other articles removed than get yours approved. English Wikipedia has a set of Notability guidelines that ALL new articles must meet - in this case Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). There is no 'World Wiki' but yes English Wikipedia does tend to have more guidelines/rules than other languages, this maybe because other languages want to grow quicker, but when you reach the size of English Wikipedia you are more concerned about quality, and have more rules. However I can not see an article about SEEK records on Polish Wikipedia either. Regards KylieTastic (talk) 19:50, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi KylieTastic You can not see on Polish wiki because it was a "past" record label, and known from MySpace which now sucks, and know from Beatport, and hard copies of magazines in Poland. But it was few years ago that means a huge time for these days living messages..and 2005 - 2010 was not a time for Polish internet (picture this).I dont know why can not see GRAND WIKIPEDIA RULES that DISCOGS is also an encyclopedic knowledge for all in music business. Is that any problems for you to see the PROOF..??? U can see all releases OUT THERE I dont totally understand your Notability standards. If u can see there was a releases so what the problem it is? There was. Label onto DISCOGS hangs. U only bans and not HELP ...WHY?(TerazAlboNigdy (talk) 14:55, 24 April 2018 (UTC))[reply]

Okay thank you for prompt answer, but why worldwide DJ MAG who is telling about SEEK, MODFUNK etc. is not enough to proof it is not quite good Notability - reliable source? It was hard copy article and now hangs online. To me it is a misunderstanding KylieTastic (TerazAlboNigdy (talk) 09:33, 25 April 2018 (UTC)).[reply]

  • Hi TerazAlboNigdy, the DJ MAG ref is a reliable source but very short. If you look at "page in a nutshell" description of Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) it's the "significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources." that is the issue. The sources such as DJ MAG and Discogs show they existed and made releases, but not enough on there own for notability. The thing is is anyone of the 5 reviewers had accepted it, it would almost certainly been flagged for deletion. It's not about just convincing any of the reviewers personally, we only accept if we think we can defend against deletion by others. Sometimes it helps to get new opinions/input so maybe consider asking for help/advise at the Wikipedia:Teahouse where lots of experienced editors answer questions. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 20:48, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all information about bit complicated wiki system. BTW I will try to add some articles about SEEK from polish pages...maybe it will work enough..(TerazAlboNigdy (talk) 09:46, 26 April 2018 (UTC))to potential creator of a new article in eng wiki. Okay u cans say now that the name can be repeated, but it could be just[reply]

And to me one thing should be available: an option in tagging from all over the world national wikipedias (NAMES - PERSONS - ORGANIZATIONS) to add possibility of more reliable sources...okay U may say: name would be repeated...so to me would be another tag for example DAFT PUNK_PL a problem solved (TerazAlboNigdy (talk) 10:02, 26 April 2018 (UTC))[reply]

  • Hi TerazAlboNigdy, an article can be, and hopefully is, repeated for each language Wikipedia (local guidelines allowing). In your example Daft Punk is on 58 different Wikipedias - See the "Languages" menu on the left hand side. This includes the Polish pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daft_Punk. So yes you can create the SEEK Records in the Polish Wikipedia, and if more sources to show notability are found maybe here sometime. All the best, and I wish you all the best with your Polish article KylieTastic (talk) 19:54, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would assume you have probably been assigned an IP address that used to belong whoever did those edits. Don't worry we understand IP addresses get re-assigned and the old warnings where not aimed at you. All the best KylieTastic (talk) 16:26, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

Please look at the extensive article on the German Wikipedia, URL https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitzewellen_in_Europa_2015

I have currently not the time to translate this myself, I would like to create at least a small piece that references the German version.

Are there any auto-translation tools available which could at least produce a draft version which could then be hand-edited ?

Best wishes, Bernd
