On the Basis of Sex is an upcoming American biographical drama film on the life of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, directed by Mimi Leder and written by Daniel Stiepleman. The film stars Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer.

The film is scheduled to be released on December 25, 2018, by Focus Features.

Plot

The film follows young lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsburg as she teams with her husband Marty to bring a groundbreaking case before the U.S. Court of Appeals and overturn a century of gender discrimination.

Cast

Production

On July 18, 2017, it was announced that Felicity Jones would play the role of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the film On the Basis of Sex, to be directed by Mimi Leder.[1] On September 7, 2017, Armie Hammer was cast in the film to play Ruth's husband Martin D. Ginsburg;[2][3] Robert W. Cort would be producing the film through Participant Media, while Focus Features would release the film domestically in 2018, with production to start in late 2017 in Montreal.[2] The cast was rounded out by Justin Theroux, Kathy Bates, Sam Waterston, Jack Reynor, Stephen Root and Cailee Spaeny in October as filming commenced.[4] In April 2018, it was announced Ruth Bader Ginsburg would appear in a small role.[5]

Release

The film was scheduled to be released by Focus Features on November 9, 2018.[6] but was pushed back to December 25, 2018.[7]
