This category is for those members of the Cecil family descended from Sir Richard Cecil (d. 1552). A famous member was Lord William Cecil, chief minister of Queen Elizabeth Tudor and builder of Burghley House. Many other members of the family have had prominent careers in British public life as well, such as U.K. Prime Minister Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury of Hatfield House.
