Needs to satisfy standard style

[edit]

This article needs rewriting to satisfy standard formats and content for articles about books. It notes the novel was first published in German, and translated into English, but does not say what other translations it has received, nor how successful it has been in sales. It does not tell about the initial 'Reception' of the book, which is usually one of the standard sub-headers.

Contemporary reception is buried in the 'Analysis'. This section is based on two critical works written years later, rather than critics' responses at the time of publication. The article lacks any information about formal awards or recognition, and does not acknowledge Grass winning a Nobel Prize for literature. All this should precede the analysis. Also, the content about characters seems to be too long, going considerably beyond the 'Plot Summary'.Parkwells (talk) 19:40, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
