3-D Bomberman (三次元ボンバーマン, Sanjigen Bonbāman) is a video game in the Bomberman series developed by Hudson Soft and released for the Sharp X1[1] and MSX[2] computers only in Japan. It is a sequel to the original Bomberman game, featuring Bomberman before Hudson Soft changed his appearance to that of a robot.[3]
Gameplay
Like traditional Bomberman games, the player navigates a room laying bombs to destroy walls and enemies. However, unlike the usual top-down perspective found in most other Bomberman titles, in 3-D Bomberman you have a first-person view on the playing area, with a very basic map showing where you and the enemies are.
Ports
PC-6001mkII, PC-8001, and FM-7 ports of the game were later released, but are incredibly elusive and unpreserved online. Hardcore Gaming 101 writer Steven Barbato states "both the PC-8001 and FM-7 versions remain very close to the Sharp X1 version in their presentation, with the only notable difference being the PC-8001 version using a garish green for both the maze floors and for Bomberman’s hair".[3]
Compared to the other ports, the PC-6001mkII version has less colorful graphics, and doesn't show Bomberman and the enemies in detail on the radar, instead just as dots.[4]
