Manele is a music style considered by many to be a form of sub-culture.Howewer, taking a closer look at the historicall context, we may consider tracing the origins of this musical stile, as far as the period when the romanian principalities where under the sovereignity of the turks. This music style is not common only to Romania, but may also be found in Serbia, Bulgaria, and other balcan countryes. The manele current is a mixture of oriental influences, some balcanic , local musical traditions, but also whith a strong influence from the rroma music and the lautari. The texts and verses of the songs ussualy refer to love, the hardships of life, but they are also some texts specifically designed for partyes, weddings, and so on. Altough the intelectuals of Romania strongly oppose this musical movement (there existed several attempt even to ban this music form) the manele are still very popular among teenagers , and among ordinary people whith more or less education.
