Adam Buckley(born 2 August 1979 in Nottingham, England) is a semi-professional footballer who currently plays for Spalding United F.C. . Adam played professionally for Grimsby Town and Lincoln City.
Buckley is the son of football manager Alan Buckley and first got his break in the professional game with West Bromwich Albion as an academy player in 1996. This was while his father was the clubs manager. With limited chances though, young Buckley followed his father to Grimsby Town in 1997, when Alan re-took the reigns at Blundell Park for the third time.
Adam made his debut for The Mariners in a First Division defeat too Swindon Town on April 24 , 1998, he went on to make one further appearance that season, another away defeat, this time too Watford. The following season, Adam was eased into first team action by his father, and was a regular sight on the bench.
It is widely known amongst supporters of the club, that Adam is thought of as one of Grimsby's weaker players in recent times, and after chalking up just over 15 appearances in all competitions for his dad, Buckley senior was sacked as manager from Town in September 2000. Buckley junior remained with Grimsby for a further year, but never made even the substitute bench in the 2000-01 season under new boss Lennie Lawrence.
In June 2001, Buckley was released by Grimsby and instantly joined his father with Lincoln City . Buckley was too be a regular for The Imps , under his father, but it wasn't soon before the Lincoln fans began to notice his below par performances. His father left Lincoln later on in 2002, and under new manager Keith Alexander chances were rare, making only 6 appearances in the whole of the 2002-03 season. Despite this Adam, scored his only goal in his professional career with a free kick against Shrewsbury Town in the Football League Trophy .
Adam moved into the lower depths of the Non-League game, signing for Harrowby United in 2003. After spending a considerable amount of time in the lower reaches of football, he didn't really re-surface until he was taken on trial by Boston United in June 2007, The Pilgrims had just suffered relegation from the Football League ,and then suffered a demotion from the Conference league due to financial troubles. Despite, Boston having a small skeleton squad, Buckley failed to impress enough to earn a contract and he signed for Unibond League side Curzon Ashton .
