Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 86.44.31.35 (talk) at 10:10, 6 August 2008 (→‎Current requests for unprotection). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection - Constant IP vandalism. D.M.N. (talk) 10:01, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection - IP vandalism building, event occurs on September 7th, so semi protect until September 8th. D.M.N. (talk) 09:15, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

full protection repeated addition of the article even after Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/A Little Bit Longer (song) was closed as redirect. Cunard (talk) 05:26, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected indefinitely. I have not protected a redirect that was the result of an AfD before. I read applicable policies and found no direction, so I chose what I thought was the best course, thinking that if there were any reason to change or edit this, it could be brought here or proposed on the talk page, which remains unprotected. If I have acted against current consensus/policy, please let me know and feel free to overturn this protection. Tan ǀ 39 05:46, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for protecting the page. I don't think it's against policy as User:PeterSymonds did it here. By the way, please add Category:Protected redirects to the redirect. Thanks again! Cunard (talk) 05:57, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

semi-protect. Frequent recent vandalism over past week (probably from unhappy fans). Partly because of very significant media attention in Australia for defection to another sport. Michellecrisp (talk) 04:00, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. as the attacks seem to be coming from all sorts of locations. People just seem to love their sport too much sometimes - Peripitus (Talk) 04:20, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary semi-protection Vandalism, one particular IP has been adding an uncited claim for several days. inspite of several editors reverting the claim it keeps coming back.ChiragPatnaik (talk) 03:13, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. I'd rather not have, but it looks like it's been coming from two IP's and neither has been threatened with a block recently. Please let us know if you want this off early. Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:21, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary full protection Dispute, Mediator Requesting Extension of existing page protection to prevent edit warring. see Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/2008-08-02_History_of_the_Jews_in_Poland.  «l| Ψrom3th3ăn ™|l»  (talk) 02:20, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note: Current protection is indefinite, no "extension" needed. Tan ǀ 39 02:25, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Already done. for the sake of the bot Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:22, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary full protection Dispute, New editor continues undoing clean ups of the mess he made of this article, including a poor attempt at an undiscussed copy/paste move, recreating the deleted copy/paste article, flooding the external links with non-related links, etc. Attempted to get around 3RR by using his IP address for one of these reverts.-- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 20:26, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection A person with no account keeps deleting info off of the page that has references. Setnick (talk) 02:48, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

• To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
• Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
• Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
• If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add Edit fully-protected to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

I figure if admins can manage to take care of their page without semi-protection, so can I. Oroso (talk) 20:07, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotected GbT/c 20:09, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected since 10 December 2007. Protector neglected to reply to a request to unprotect i made some months ago. Should be protected when subject to disruption, of course, but editors who believe there is‎ "No reason for IPs ... to be editing this anyways" are free to discount the content of such edits, not that they would be right to do so. 86.44.31.35 (talk) 10:10, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

• Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among Edit protected, Edit template-protected, Edit extended-protected, or Edit semi-protected to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
• Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the Edit COI template should be used.
• Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
• If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
• This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Please se http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Copyrights#Please_add_the_following_Copyright_Infringement_criteria. --CyclePat (talk) 20:08, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fulfilled/denied requests

Full protection : The article is being vandalized by Greek propaganda claiming the this city was founded by Greece while they don't have a source or historical fact from which to support their claims. The official website of Vlore http://www.bashkiavlore.org/ [1] says nothing about Vlore being founded by Greece or any other nation. If you look at the page history there have been many changes just for the reasons i mentioned above. the talk page of vlore also brings to light these unsupported arguments.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Alba-union (talkcontribs) 02:03, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for one week. Tan ǀ 39 02:28, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi or Full, permanent. Main use seems to be in Template:Main Page toolbox. Cluebot just reverted some vandalism (it's first). Protection seems logical though (not sure?). Thanks. :) -- Quiddity 01:39, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected High-risk template, no need for anyone to edit that. Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:45, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

full protection Article has a recent history of vandalism by anonymous users who have repeatedly added information that is not relevant to an article about the FAA. Specifically, users have begun adding the same boilerplate paragraph, stating that an FAA manager was convicted of sexually harassing a subordinate to the point that she committed suicide. This allegation is the basis of a current defamation lawsuit brought by the aforementioned supervisor against the former Air Traffic Controllers' union president, John Carr (among others). It appears that Mr. Carr's co-defendants and/or supporters have begun using Wikipedia to continue the campaign of internet-based harassment against this supervisor. Similar vandalism has occurred on the pages: sexual harassment and John Gilding (which was deleted by Wikipedia admins).

unprotection

Declined No rationale given, not signed, in wrong section, and article is not protected. Note that Mal updater, which has been recreated and speedied three times, is from the same user. Salting may be the appropriate action here, not unprotection. Horologium (talk) 23:57, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, as MAL Updater has already been salted because of this issue. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 00:29, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

temporary semi-protection User talk of blocked user, due to disruptive editing..—αἰτίας discussion 23:58, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Already done. VegaDark (talk) 23:59, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

semi-protect Article about the female American-born WNBA player who elected to play for Russia in the Beijing Olympics after failing to make the U.S. team. Article has a history of vandalism (mainly edits calling the subject a Communist, traitor, and other terms of the like). Requesting semi-protection while the Olympics are being held to avoid further activity of that nature. --Winger84 (talk) 23:38, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. VegaDark (talk) 23:46, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

move-protect. Speculation about the name are flying around for weeks now but while reverting the adding of the name to the article is quite easy, it is more annoying when people start moving it to a new name. So I'd like to request move-protection until the name is revealed (there is no reason to move it before that as the current name is MoS-compliant). So#Why review me! 23:16, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done Move protected for one month. If a sourced announcement of the official title is available before that time, ask for unprotection. Horologium (talk) 23:21, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary Full Protection - In order to stop Edit warring. --76.233.95.76 (talk) 21:39, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

However, Interstate 110 and State Route 110 (California) the page you have request protection for has not had any edits since August 2nd. John Sloan (talk) 21:58, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Declined No recent edits. If you meant to request this for a different article, please make a new request. - Rjd0060 (talk) 00:06, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary full protection Dispute, Two editors are edit-warring. I think both editors have valid points, but they're throwing accusations and uncivil comments back and forth. Maybe if the editors took some time discussing their issues in the talk page will be much more useful.

Declined There's no need for that at the moment; there have only been a few edits today. If matter get worse, only then would protection be justified. TSO1D (talk) 23:08, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary semi protection: An IP is adding misinformation to the lead of the article, suggesting that Jackson had not released a studio album in over a decade. This is deliberately misleading as HIStory was released in 1995. I get the impression the IP doesn't understand that HIStory is a studio album and is thus reverting continually, it might be better to deal with the IP instead? — Realist2 (Speak) 20:55, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
