Need for Speed: World Online is an upcoming installment in the long-running racing video game franchise Need for Speed published by Electronic Arts. This iteration is being co-developed by EA Black Box and EA Singapore as a free-to-play MMORG (massively multiplayer online racing game), the first MMORG in the Need for Speed series since Motor City Online and a sequel to Need for Speed: Undercover, exclusively for Windows-based PCs. It will have the most licensed cars, upgrade parts and game modes ever in Need for Speed's history.[2]
World Online is scheduled for release worldwide in fall 2010.[1]
Gameplay
World Online takes on the gameplay style of Most Wanted and Carbon, focusing on illegal racing, tuning and police chases, and adds classic MMO elements to the mix such as special abilities. World Online even incorporates almost exact replicas of the cites of Rockport and Palmont, the cities of Most Wanted and Carbon respectively, into its map design. It also features co-op gameplay and team based game modes where the players play as the cops.[3]
Development
World Online will be localized to some degree, it has been states that the European and North American versions of the game will have differences from the Asian one.[3]
World Online was in October 2009 in public beta-testing limited to residents of Taiwan.[4] Several in-game videos from the beta can be found on YouTube.
