Main couple murderers? Why scared, then?

Since the main couple were the murderers, why were they talking about being scared to each other? I mean the scenes they are both alone, so not exactly pretending to be scared to Nick and Gina. I think there was too much effort to make it look like they weren't the killers. For example,when Rocky finds images of the killers on the Web and Cydney says "they could be anyone", it is very clear to me that she is telling him the image might not be from Nick/Gina, and not saying "nobody can't see it's us". What do you think?
