Chirkunda

Template:Infobox Indian jurisdiction Chirkunda is a city and a notified area in Dhanbad district in the state of Jharkhand, India.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Chirkunda had a population of 39,121. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Chirkunda has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 71% and female literacy of 56%. 14% of the population is under 6 years of age. The official language and most widely spoken language is Hindi.Other languages which may be understood here are Bengali and Urdu.Hinduism is the prominent religion here,followed by Islam.

Economy

Chirkunda is situated amidst rich coal mines of Jharia and Raniganj. Major industries in and around this area includes refractory making, coke making, iron and steel plants, food processing, retailing, and service industry. Due to its stragic location, Chirkunda has many big business houses of the Dhanbad district such as the Gaddhyans, the Kharkias, the Choudhary's to name a few. Some major factories in this belt includes Associated Ceramic, Chirkunda Ceramic Works, Maithan Ceramic Ltd, Arun Fuels, Bharat Ceramic, Shree Ganesh Hardcoke, etc. KFS, once India's largest refractory producer when it was in operation is situated in this area. Mc Nally Bharat Engineering is also situated in the outskirts of Chirkunda. The presence of DVC's Maithon dam and Panchet dam, power stations is another major factor for the development of industries in and around this area. The coming up of Maithon thermal power holds brighter prospects for the future and prevalent industries.

education

education is mainly due to presence of private school though there are government schools also. most famous of them are modern school,loyola school,st. mary school,saraswati vidya mandir,j.k.r.r,elite public school,gurunanak school,and also madrasa.also there are several colleges nearby like bsk college,shms college,sahu college,womens college that provide higher education to the people here.

tourist places

maithon is one of the biggest tourist place of jharkhand is located just 8 kilometers from chirkunda. it has awesume beautiful surroundings with very good tourist attraction.people from distant places like bokaro,purulia,asansol,durgapur,ranchi,dhanbad etc come every year for picnic to this place. panchet dam is also a very beautiful tourist spot and it is also 12 km from chirkunda. though not popular as maithon but its scenic beauty is very breath taking.

transportation

chirkunda is well connected to various districts. you can get state run buses every 15 mins from chirkunda to dhanbad. also the place is connected to tata via purulia route via bus. buses for asansol and durgapur can be boared from barakar which is 2 kms from chirkunda.chirkunda is also well connected to dhanbad district via train route. the nearest railway station is kumardubi. it has many stopages for mail and exprees train apart from passenger trains. kumardubi station has the highest turnover in between any station from asansol to dhanbad. the place is well connected to its nearest metro city kolkata via train route which is nearly 250 km from chirkunda.

medical facility

medical facility is very good here.apart from govt hospital there are few private nursing homes like popular nursing home. also there is a special eye hospital which also conducts free eye test every year. also there is a diabatic awarness centre. the place has a very renowned doctor of homeopath who is famous all over india for his medicine dr. ranjan whose fees charge is also very minimal.24 hr ambulance facility is also available in some hospitals.

apart from lodges there are few hotels that are available here hotel sunny,maithan hotel,and hotel suman are few of them.
