Lists of school-related attacks

This is a list of school-related attacks. These are attacks that have occurred on school property or related primarily to school issues or events. A broad definition of the word attacks is used for this list so as to include public attacks or one's self (suicide).

The list is divided into three main chronological sections according to school age: primary, secondary, and post-secondary. Additionally, a list is provided detailing foiled school-related attack plots that resulted in a conviction.

July 26, 1764	Franklin County, Pennsylvania, United States	Four Lenape warriors	10–11 dead, 2 injured	Enoch Brown school massacre. On July 26, 1764, four Lenape American Indian warriors entered a log schoolhouse of white settlers in what is now Franklin County, Pennsylvania, near present-day Greencastle. Inside were the schoolmaster, Enoch Brown, and twelve young students. Brown pleaded with the warriors to spare the children before being shot and scalped. The warriors then began to tomahawk and scalp the children, killing nine or ten of them (reports vary). Two children who had been scalped survived.
June 22, 1871	LaGrange County, Indiana, United States	Chauncey Barnes	2 dead	Anna Dwight, the schoolmistress of Stone Lake Schoolhouse, is shot to death outside her schoolhouse by Chauncey Barnes, a rejected suitor. Barnes then committed suicide by shooting himself in the head several times.
May 17, 1889	Washington, District of Columbia, United States	Oswald C. Allen	2 dead	Sarah E. Allen, a third grade teacher at the Jefferson school, is shot to death in front of her class by her estranged husband Oswald C. Allen, who then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.
April 9, 1891	Newburgh, New York, United States	James Foster, 70	5 injured	70-year-old James Foster fired a shotgun at a group of male students in the playground of St. Mary's Parochial School, causing minor injuries to several of the students.
December 21, 1898	New York City, New York, United States	Samuel Jacobson, 8	1 injured	Samuel Jacobson, student at Grammar School 85, stabbed his 8-year-old classmate Hans Pietze with a pocketknife after he fell over the latters foot. Both students were said to have quarrelled often before.
February 26, 1902	Camargo, Illinois, United States	Fletcher R. Barnett	2 dead	Teacher Fletcher R. Barnett shot and killed another teacher, Eva C. Wiseman, in front of her class at a school near Camargo, Illinois. After shooting at a pupil who came to help Miss Wiseman and wounding himself in a failed suicide attempt he waited in the classroom until a group of farmers came to lynch him. He then ran out of the school building, grabbed a shotgun from one of the farmers and shot himself, before running away and leaping into a well where he finally drowned. The incident was likely sparked by Wiseman's refusal to marry Barnett.
October 6, 1902	Droyssig, Austria-Hungary	..., 40	4 dead, 3 injured	A schoolmaster killed three children and injured another three, when he suddenly drew a revolver from his desk and shot at his pupils, before he himself was lynched by infuriated villagers.
October 9, 1902	Altona, Manitoba, Canada	Henry I. Toews, 33	2 dead, 5 injured	After meeting with the board of trustees for showing extreme malice towards some of his pupils, school teacher Henry Toews shot the three school trustees and three of their children, one of them fatally, before fleeing from the school ground and shooting himself in the head. He died of this wound on January 19, 1903.
October 10, 1906	Cleveland, Ohio, United States	Harry Smith, 25	2 dead	Harry Smith shot and killed 22-year-old teacher Mary Shepard at South Euclid School after she had rejected him. Smith escaped and committed suicide in a barn near his home two hours later.
February 12, 1909	San Francisco, California, United States	Demetri Tereaschinko, 49	1 dead, 1 injured	10-year-old Dorothy Malakanoff was shot and killed by 49-year-old Demetri Tereaschinko as she arrived at her school in San Francisco. Tereaschinko then shot himself in a failed suicide attempt. Tereaschinko was reportedly upset that Malakanoff refused to elope with him.
January 10, 1912	Warrenville, Illinois, United States	Sylvester E. Adams	2 dead	Sylvester E. Adams shot and killed teacher Edith Smith after she rejected his advances. Adams then shot and killed himself. The incident took place in a schoolhouse about a mile outside of Warrenville after the students had been dismissed for the day.
June 20, 1913	Bremen, Germany	Heinz Schmidt, 30	5 dead, 23 injured	Bremen school shooting. 30-year-old unemployed teacher Heinz Schmidt entered St.-Marien-Schule and indiscriminately shot at students and teachers, killng four students and injuring 23 other people, Another student died from injuries she sustained while falling down a flight of stairs while trying to escape the shooting. A furious crowd outside the school eventually subdued Schmidt and he was arrested by police.
March 27, 1919	Lodi, Michigan, United States	Robert Warner	1 dead	19-year-old teacher Irma Casler was shot and killed in her classroom at Rentschler school in Lodi, Michigan by Robert Warner, apparently because she had rejected his advances.
May 18, 1927	Bath, Michigan, United States	Andrew Kehoe, 55	45 dead, 58 injured	Bath School disaster. School board member Andrew Kehoe set up a series of explosions in the Bath elementary school. That morning he killed his wife and detonated a bomb inside the school. As people amassed outside, Kehoe detonated his shrapnel-filled vehicle outside the school, in which he took his own life. The bombings constituted the deadliest act of mass murder in a school in U.S. history.
February 15, 1933	Downey, California, United States	Vernon Blythe, 35	3 dead	Dr. Vernon Blythe shot and killed his wife Eleanor, as well as his 8-year old son Robert at Gallatin grammar school and committed suicide after firing three more shots at his other son Vernon. His wife, who had been a teacher at the school, had filed for divorce the week before.
September 12, 1940	Uniontown, Pennsylvania, United States	William Kuhns, 35	1 dead, 1 injured	29-year-old teacher Carolyn Dellamea is shot to death inside her third grade classroom by 35-year-old William Kuhns. Kuhns then shot himself in the chest in a failed suicide attempt. Kuhns had reportedly been courting Dellamea for over a year but the relationship was ended when Dellamea discovered that Kuhns was already married.
October 25, 1940	Cincinnati, Ohio, United States	Guy Willie Ponder, 27	1 dead	10-year-old Clarence Stevens, a third grade pupil at Holy Name School, was stabbed to death inside a storeroom at the school by 27-year-old Guy Willie Ponder.
May 9, 1944	New York City, New York, United States	Madeline Kirkland, 11 Eileen Foster, 13	1 dead	Nine-year-old Margaret Patton was attacked and killed at PS 119 in Harlem by two fellow students. One student held Patton’s arms while the other stabbed her to death. Police later arrested 11-year-old Madeline Kirkland, who was charged with murder, and 13-year-old Eileen Foster, who was charged with juvenile delinquency.
October 10, 1956	Terrazzano, Italy	Arturo Santato, 23 Egidio Santato, 21	1 dead, 4 injured	Arturo Santato, a former inmate of an asylum in Aversa, and his brother Egidio went into a school in Terrazzano, near Milan, carrying guns, dynamite and acid and took 96 children and three teachers hostage for about six hours. They demanded 200 millon lire for the release of their hostages or they would kill them. Using the children as shields they fired shots at people outside the school, killing one person and injuring another three. The hostage crisis ended when one teacher tackled Egidio, grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the head. The attack distracted the brothers long enough to give police time to storm the classroom without endangering the children's lives.
September 15, 1959	Houston, Texas, United States	Paul Harold Orgeron, 49	6 dead, 19 injured	Poe Elementary School attack. The morning that Paul Orgeron's second-grade son is denied enrollment, he detonates an explosive on the school playground during recess, killing himself; his son, Dusty; a teacher; a custodian and two seven-year-old boys. The school principal and 18 students aged six to ten are injured, many seriously.
February 2, 1960	Hartford City, Indiana, United States	Leonard O. Redden, 44	3 dead	Principal Leonard Redden shot and killed two teachers with a shotgun at William Reed Elementary School in Hartford City, Indiana, before fleeing into a remote forest, where he committed suicide.
April 20, 1961	Chicago, Illinois, United States	Lee Arthur Hester, 14	1 dead	Teacher Josephine Keane, 45, is sexually assaulted and stabbed to death inside a storeroom at Lewis-Champlin elementary school in Chicago. Lee Arthur Hester, a 14-year-old student, is later convicted of the murder and sentenced to 55 years in prison.
June 11, 1964	Cologne, Germany	Walter Seifert, 42	11 dead, 22 injured	Cologne school massacre. Armed with an insecticide sprayer converted into a flamethrower, a lance, and a homemade mace, 42-year-old Walter Seifert entered the Katholische Volksschule in Cologne, Germany, and opened fire on female students playing in the courtyard. He then knocked in classroom windows with his mace and fired inside. Eight children and two teachers died, and twenty children and two teachers suffered injuries of severe burns. After taking a cyanide pill, Seifert died the following day, while in custody.
April 8, 1970	Bahr el-Baqar, Sharqiyya, Egypt	Israeli Air Force	46 dead, 50+ injured	Bahr el-Baqar incident. A bombing occurred during the War of Attrition, where the Israeli airforce carried out a raid on the Egyptian village of Bahr el-Baqar, in the eastern province of Sharqiyya, the raid resulted in the destruction of a primary school full of school children. Of the 130 school children who attended the school, 46 were killed, and over 50 wounded. The Israelis claimed that they believed the target was a military installation.
May 8, 1970	Avivim, Israel	Palestinian militants	12 dead, 25 injured	Avivim school bus massacre. Palestinian terrorists belonging to the PFLP-GC attacked the community school bus of Avivim, killing nine children and three adults and wounding 25 other people, by firing two bazooka shells at the bus.
January 17, 1974	Chicago, Illinois, United States	Steven Guy, 14	1 dead, 3 injured	14-year-old Steven Guy, apparently angry about being transferred to a social adjustment center, entered Clara W. Barton Elementary School in Chicago with a revolver and a pistol and killed the principal and wounded three others before he was seized by a teacher when both his guns jammed.
May 15, 1974	Ma'alot, Israel	DFLP, PLO	26 children killed, 60+ wounded, 3 hostage takers killed	Ma'alot massacre. A group of DFLP militants took around 90 school children hostage on the 15. May, 1974, at "Netiv Meir", an elementary school in Ma'alot, a community in northern Israel. Before the deadline at 6:00 p.m., the school was stormed by Israeli special forces, who killed all the hostage-takers. 26 hostages had been killed.
November 10, 1976	Detroit, Michigan, United States	Al J. Lewis, 46	1 dead	English teacher Betty McCaster, 46, was shot to death by her estranged husband in front of her first grade class at Burt Elementary School in northwest Detroit.
October 10, 1977	San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago	...	5 dead	A man running through the halls of El Socorro public school killed four children with a machete, as well as a woman outside the school when trying to escape. He was later arrested by police.
January 29, 1979	San Diego, California, United States	Brenda Ann Spencer, 16	2 dead, 9 injured	Armed with a .22-rifle, 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer opened fire at Cleveland Elementary School, killing two adults and wounding eight children and one police officer. Spencer was later apprehended after a six-hour stand-off, and she was asked of her motive for the killing, to which she shrugged and infamously replied "I don't like Mondays. This livens up the day."
August 13, 1983	Chiang Rai Province, Thailand	Suthat Wannasarn, 43	3 dead, 3 injured	3 children were hacked to death and two others wounded in a nursery in Chiang Rai Province, when 43-year-old Suthat Wannasarn attacked them with a sword and a large stick. Wannasarn was later arrested by police after being shot in the abdomen.
February 24, 1984	Los Angeles, United States	Tyrone Mitchell, 28	2 dead, 13 injured	At 2:23 p.m. 28-year-old Tyrone Mitchell began shooting at students leaving 49th Street Elementary School in Los Angeles with a 12-gauge shotgun and a rifle from a second-floor window of a building across the street. He killed a 10-year-old girl and wounded 11 other children, as well as a schoolyard supervisor and a passer-by. When police finally stormed the building they found Mitchell's body, who had killed himself with the shotgun. Mitchell had lost his parents, grandmother, brother and four sisters in the Jonestown massacre.
May 16, 1986	Cokeville, Wyoming, United States	David Young Doris Young	2 dead, 79 injured	Cokeville Elementary School hostage crisis. David Young, and his wife Doris Young, took 167 children and adults hostage at Cokeville Elementary School. After a two-and-a-half hour standoff, a gasoline bomb the couple was carrying went off prematurely, injuring Doris Young while David Young was out of the room. Returning to the scene, David Young shot his wife, and then himself. All the hostages escaped, though 79 were later hospitalized with burns and injuries.
May 20, 1988	Winnetka, Illinois, United States	Laurie Dann, 30	2 dead, 6 injured	Laurie Dann walked into a second grade classroom at Hubbard Woods Elementary School carrying a pistol and two revolvers and began shooting children, killing eight-year-old Nicholas Corwin and wounding five others before fleeing. She entered a nearby house where she had shot and wounded a 20-year-old man before killing herself.
August 31, 1988	Anderson, South Carolina, United States	Kevin Dean Young, William Bell, John Glenn, Arthur Ray Jones	1 dead	Principal Dennis Ray Hepler, 35, was accosted by three young men on the grounds of West Franklin Elementary School. They robbed him of $67 before shooting him to death. Two of the perpetrators were sentenced to death. The third was sentenced to 35 years in prison. A fourth man was convicted as an accessory for driving the three assailants away from the crime scene.
September 23, 1988	Chicago, Illinois, United States	Clemmie Henderson, 40	5 dead, 2 injured	Armed with a .38 caliber pistol, 40-year-old Clemmie Henderson shot two people dead at an auto parts store and wounded a garbage man before entering Montefiore Special Elementary School where he killed a school custodian and a police officer. He wounded another police officer before he was shot and killed.
September 26, 1988	Greenwood, South Carolina, United States	James William Wilson, 19	2 dead, 9 injured	James Wilson, 19, took a .22-caliber pistol to Oakland Elementary School where he shot and killed two students and injured seven other students and two teachers. Wilson was sentenced to death by electric chair.
January 17, 1989	Stockton, California, United States	Patrick Purdy, 24	6 dead, 30 injured	Patrick Purdy shot and killed five schoolchildren, and wounded 29 other schoolchildren and one teacher on the playground of Cleveland Elementary School. The shooting ended with Purdy committing suicide.
August 13, 1992	Dorum, Germany	Wilfried Schulte, 47	1 killed	Wilfired Schulte shot his wife Eva Lerp in front of her class at an elementary school in Dorum near Cuxhaven. Lerp who had been a teacher at the school died a few hours later in hospital.
November 10, 1993	Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina,	Serbian Military	9 dead	Three to four bombs were detonated by the Serbian military at school at Sarajevo. Several children and a teacher were killed in the attack, other children were wounded.
June 7, 1994	Waku-Kungo, Angola	Angolan military	89 dead	At least 89 children were killed when an Angolan MiG-21-pilot accidentally bombed a school near Waku-Kungo. The pilot lost track of his intended target, rebel troops located 30 miles from Waku-Kungo, due to failing navigation equipment and bad weather. According to the rebels the airstrike killed at least 150 people and left 250 wounded.
November 5, 1994	San Leandro, California, United States	...	1 dead	15-year-old Evelyna LeBlanc was shot in the head and raped on the playground of an elementary school by an unknown assailant, she died from her gunshot wound the next day. In 2007 DNA tests identified a suspect in the case.
March 13, 1996	Dunblane, Scotland, United Kingdom	Thomas Hamilton, 44	18 dead, 15 injured	Dunblane massacre. Unemployed former shopkeeper and Scout leader Thomas Hamilton walked into Dunblane Primary School armed with two 9 mm pistols and two .357 Magnum revolvers. He killed sixteen children and a teacher, and wounded 15 others before committing suicide. The subsequent police investigation revealed that Hamilton had loaded the magazines for his Browning with an alternating combination of fully metal jacketed and hollow point ammunition. This event led to the banning of handguns in the UK with the Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1997.
July 8, 1996	Blakenhall, Wolverhampton, England, United Kingdom	Horrett Campbell, 33	7 injured	Horrett Campbell, a 33-year-old man with paranoid schizophrenia, invaded a Teddy Bears' Picnic being held at St Luke's Primary School and slashed three young children and four adults with a machete. Lisa Potts, a 20-year-old nursery nurse, was awarded the George Medal for saving children's lives despite suffering severe injuries.
October 10, 1996	Queensland, Australia	Paul Streeton, 26	1 injured	Paul Streeton set six year old Tjandamurra O'Shane on fire in the playground of his school, burning over 70% of his body. The motive was apparently racism due to the boy's aboriginal background.
September 3, 1998	Hajdúhadház, Hungary	..., 31	11 injured	A 31-year-old female teacher stabbed eight children and three teachers in the canteen of a primary school in Hajdúhadház.
February 22, 1999	Gulbene, Latvia	Alexander Koryakov, 19	4 dead, 1 injured	19-year-old Alexander Koryakov entered a kindergarten in Gulbene where he chopped three girls to death with a meat cleaver. He also killed a teacher and wounded a nurse, before trying to escape. After his arrest he told police that he wanted to become as famous as Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo. Koryakov was sentenced to life imprisonment in December 1999.
May 3, 1999	Costa Mesa, California, United States	Steven Allen Abrams, 39	2 dead, 5 injured	Steven Allen Abrams purposefully drove his car onto the playground of Southcoast Early Childhood Learning Center. He killed two children and injured four other children and an adult. Abrams later stated that he thought the deaths of the children would silence the voices that he thought the US government was beaming into his brain.
February 29, 2000	Mount Morris Township, Michigan, United States	Dedrick Owens, 6	1 dead	Dedrick Owens took a .32 caliber pistol to Buell Elementary School from his uncle's home and used it to kill 6-year-old Kayla Rolland.
February 2, 2001	Red Lion, Pennsylvania, United States	William Stankewicz, 55	13 injured	William Stankewicz entered North Hopewell Winterstown Elementary School and brutally slashed two teachers and a principal with a machete. He then subsequently wounded several children in a kindergarten classroom before being subdued by a faculty member.
May 7, 2001	Anchorage, Alaska, United States	Jason Pritchard, 33	4 injured	Four students were stabbed in the neck by 33-year-old Jason Pritchard at Mountain View Elementary School.
June 8, 2001	Ikeda, Osaka, Japan	Mamoru Takuma, 37	8 dead, 15 injured	Osaka school massacre. Armed with a kitchen knife, a 37-year-old former janitor Mamoru Takuma trespassed into Ikeda Elementary School attached to Osaka-Kyoiku University and stabbed school children and teachers. 8 children were killed and 15 wounded, among those were 13 children and two teachers.
September 4, 2002	Seoul, South Korea	Hwang Bom-nae, 53	10 injured	10 children were injured at Neung Dong Church Elementary School in Seoul, when Hwang Bom-nae attacked them with kitchen knives. Hwang told police he heard the voice of Kim Il-Sung that commanded him to kill many people or he himself would be killed.
November 26, 2002	Huaiji county, People's Republic of China	Shi Reqiu	5 dead, 2 injured	Shi Reqiu stabbed seven children at Shilong Elementary School with a kitchen knife before being arrested. One child died at the scene, while four more succumbed to their wounds in hospital.
March 7, 2003	Beihai, People's Republic of China	Xie Zhongcai, 24	8 injured	24-year-old Xie Zhongcai stabbed four teachers and four children in a kindergarten in Beihai, after one of the teachers, with whom he had been in love, had arranged for him to be beaten up. Xie was finally overpowered by staff members and the father of one of the kindergarten children.
June 1, 2004	Sasebo, Nagasaki, Japan	Unidentified girl, 11	1 dead	Sasebo slashing. An 11-year-old student, identified only as "Girl A," killed a 12-year-old classmate, Satomi Mitarai, by slitting her throat at Okubo Elementary School.
September 1, 2004	Beslan, North Ossetia, Russian Federation	Chechen terrorists,	At least 386 dead, including 31 hostage takers. Over 700 injured.	Beslan school hostage crisis . A group of pro-Chechen armed rebels took more than 1,200 school children and adults hostage on September 1, 2004, at School Number One (SNO) in the town of Beslan, North Ossetia. On the third day of the standoff, gunfire broke out between the hostage-takers and Russian security forces.
September 11, 2004	Suzhou, People's Republic of China	Yang Guozhu, 41	28 injured	A man armed with a knife and homemade explosives attacked 28 children at a kindergarten.
September 20, 2004	Ying County, People's Republic of China	Jia Qingyou, 36	25 injured	36-year-old Jia Qingyou, a bus driver, injured 25 children with a kitchen knife at No. 1 Experimental Primary School in Ying county. He was later sentenced to death and executed.
September 30, 2004	Chenzhou, People's Republic of China	Liu Hongwen, 28	4 dead, 12 injured	Liu Hongwen, a 28-year-old primary school teacher, killed four children with a knife in a grade one class at a school in Chenzhou and wounded nine other children and three teachers, before taking 65 students hostage. After negotiations with a county government official he surrendered to police. He was later found not guilty by reason of insanity due to schizophrenia.
December 4, 2004	Mingcheng Town, People's Republic of China	Liu Zhigang, 30	12 injured	12 students were stabbed by Liu Zhigang, a man suffering from schozophrenia, at the Central Primary School of Mingcheng Town, Panshi City. Liu was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
February 14, 2005	Neyagawa, Japan	..., 17	1 dead, 2 injured	A 17-year-old boy stabbed two teachers and a school nutritionist with a kitchen knife at his former elementary school, killing one of the teachers.
October 12, 2005	Guangde County, People's Republic of China	Liu Shibing, 33	18 injured	18 people, among them 16 children, were injured when Liu Shibing shot them with six home-made guns at Niutoushan Primary School in Guangde.
December 10, 2005	Uji, Japan	Yu Hagino, 23	1 dead	23-year-old teacher Yu Hagino stabbed 12-year-old Sayano Horimoto to death at a cram school in Uji, following a verbal dispute. Yu was sentenced to 18 years in prison in March 2007.
May 8, 2006	Shiguan, People's Republic of China	Bai Ningyang, 19	12 dead, 5 injured	Armed with two knifes and petrol 19-year-old Bai Ningyang entered a classroom on the second floor of a kindergarten in Shiguan, a village near Gongyi. He forced the 21 children and the teacher to the back of the room, sprayed the floor with gasoline, and, before setting it on fire, let one child go, because he knew its parents. Bai then locked the door and escaped. 12 of the children died and four others and the teacher were wounded. Bai was arrested the next day and sentenced to death in December 2007.
May 24, 2006	Luoying, People's Republic of China	Yang Xinlong, 35	2 dead, 2 injured	35-year-old farmer Yang Xinlong hacked his aunt to death, set her house on fire and injured another person after an argument before entering Luoying Primary School where he stabbed a child to death in a third grade classroom and took 18 others hostage for several hours. When Yang refused to let the children go he was shot and arrested by police.
August 30, 2006	Essex, Vermont, United States	Christopher A. Williams, 27	2 dead, 3 injured	Searching for his ex-girlfriend, Christopher A. Williams entered his ex-girlfriend’s house and shot her mother dead. Williams then travelled to Essex Elementary School, his ex-girlfriend’s workplace, and shot two teachers, killing one. Williams then travelled to a friend’s house where he shot and wounded his friend before wounding himself. Williams was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. His ex-girlfriend was not wounded in the attack.
October 2, 2006	Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States	Charles Carl Roberts, 32	6 dead, 5 injured	Amish school shooting. Charles Carl Roberts, a 32-year-old milk-tank truck driver, took hostages and eventually shot ten girls, killing five (aged 7–13), before killing himself at West Nickel Mines School, a one-room Amish schoolhouse.
March 18, 2007	Sabayoi, Songkhla, Thailand	Insurgents, 3 dead, several injured	3 dead	Insurgents attacked Bamrungsart Pondok School with firearms. Three children were killed. It was reported that it was Muslim insurgents who had attacked this Muslim school.
June 13, 2007	Chiling, People's Republic of China	Su Qianxiao, 42	1 dead, 3 injured	A nine-year-old boy was killed when Su Qianxiao, a 42-year-old villager from Chiling, stabbed four children with a kitchen knife at Chiling Primary School. He was caught by locals before he could commit suicide by jumping off the school's roof.
August 4, 2007	Newark, New Jersey, United States	José Carranza, 28, and two 15-year old unidentified boys	3 dead, 1 wounded	Known as the Newark Schoolyard Killings, three Delaware State University students were forced to kneel against an elementary school wall and were shot execution-style by 28-year old Jose Carranza and two 15-year old juveniles. A fourth student was found with gunshot wounds to her head.

He was subdued by four men, before he could throw out a seventh child.
February 7, 2008	Portsmouth, Ohio, United States	William Michael Layne, 46	1 dead, 2 injured	Layne, the estranged husband of a teacher at Notre Dame Elementary School, stabbed a bystander on the street prior to entering the school. He then walked into his wife's fifth grade classroom where he shot and stabbed her. Layne later shot and killed himself after a stand-off with police at his home.
November 12, 2008	Kandahar, Afghanistan	Ten Afghan militants	15 injured	Militants in Afghanistan attacked three separate groups of students and teachers by squirting acid on them while they were walking to the Mirwais Mena Girls' School in Kandahar. Fifteen people were injured in the acid attack. Ten people were later arrested in connection to the attack, several of which confessed.
January 7, 2009	Budapest, Hungary	Unknown	2 dead, 1 injured	A principal and a teacher were killed by a security guard and an administrator at a private elementary school in the 21 district of Budapest at 6:40PM. The guard afterwards shot himself in the hand to support claims the deed was the act of an unknown masked gunman. The perpetrators had been fired by the principal on suspicion of embezzling.
January 23, 2009	Tromsø, Norway	...	2 dead	A man shot and killed a female trainee teacher and then fatally shot himself in the car park of a kindergarten. The shooting occurred just as children were arriving for school.
January 23, 2009	Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde, Dendermonde, Belgium	Kim De Gelder, 20	4 dead, 12 injured	Kim De Gelder entered a kindergarten in Belgium and started stabbing people. Two babies and a 54-year-old woman were stabbed to death and twelve other people were injured in the attack. De Gelder also stabbed a 73-year-old woman to death in her apartment days earlier.
March 3, 2009	Mazhan, People's Republic of China	Xu Ximei, 40	2 dead, 4 injured	40-year-old Xu Ximei, an allegedly mentally disabled woman, stabbed two boys, aged 4 and 6, to death with a kitchen knife and injured another three children, as well as the 76-year-old grandmother of one of her victims at the primary school of Mazhan village in Guangdong province. She was later found lying in a classroom and arrested.

January 26, 1962	Taipei, Taiwan	Tsui Yin, 41	7 dead, 3 injured	Tsui Yin, a 41-year-old former physical education teacher at Li Shing junior high school in Taipei, returned to the school, where he shot and killed the principal, the principal's wife and five other faculty members with a pistol in revenge for his dismissal. He also wounded three others, among them the principal's daughter, before managing to escape in a taxi, though he was later arrested by police when seeking refuge in a friend's house. Tsui Yin was sentenced to death and executed on July 26 of the same year.

Lane, 48, was shot and fatally wounded when he tried to stop 16-year-old student James Arthur Frampton, who was walking through the halls of Bay Shore Senior High School with a shotgun, searching for some boys with whom he had an argument earlier that day. Lane died of his wounds on June 13, 1966.
October 5, 1966	Grand Rapids, Minnesota United States	David M. Black Jr., 15	1 dead, 1 injured	David Black, a 15-year-old student at Grand Rapids High School, arrived at the school with a .22 caliber pistol which he used to shoot student Kevin Roth and administrator Forrest L. Willey. Willey died of his wound eight days later.
November 1, 1967	Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom	Robert Mone, 19	1 dead	19-year-old soldier Robert Mone entered St John's RC High School armed with a shotgun and took a class hostage, ordering the students to barricade the door, before proceeding to torment and sexually abuse the children. After 90 minutes the teacher, Nanette Hanson, was able to convince Mone, who by then had already raped one of the girls, to let the children go. Hanson, who was pregnant at that time, was then fatally shot in the back at point blank range. Robert Mone, whose motive was apparently revenge for being expelled from the school three years prior, was found to be insane and sent to the State Hospital for Scotland and Northern Ireland in Carstairs.
January 30, 1968	Miami, Florida, United States	Blanche Patricia Ward, 16	1 dead	16-year-old Blanche Ward shot and killed fellow student Linda Lipscomb, 16, with a .22-caliber pistol at Miami Jackson High School. According to Ward, she was threatened with a razor by Lipscomb during an argument over a fountain pen, and in the ensuing struggle the gun went off.
February, 1968	Huế, Vietnam	Viet Cong	170 dead	Hue Massacre. The Gia Hoi High School massacre took place during the invasion of Huế during the Vietnam War by the Viet Cong. Afterward, 170 bodies were recovered from the Gia Hoi High School yard alone.

He fired about two dozen rounds at police officers, injuring one, before committing suicide.

October 27, 1975	Ottawa, Ontario, Canada	Robert Poulin, 18	3 dead, 5 injured	St. Pius X High School shooting. 18-year-old Robert Poulin opened fire on his class with a shotgun at St. Pius X High School, killing one and wounding five before turning the gun on himself. Poulin had raped and stabbed his 17-year-old friend Kim Rabot to death prior to the shooting.

February 22, 1978	Lansing, Michigan, United States	Roger Needham, 15	1 dead, 1 injured	Roger Needham, a 15-year-old student, shot two students at Everett High School. One of the students, 15-year-old Bill Draher, died of his gunshot wound.
May 19, 1978	Austin, Texas, United States	John Daniel Christian, 13	1 dead	13-year-old honor student John Christian entered an English classroom at Austin Junior High School armed with a .22 caliber rifle. He fatally shot teacher 29-year-old Wilbur Grayson three times. Christian then fled the school building and dropped the rifle by a bicycle rack, before being wrestled against a fence by gym coach Larry Schirpiek. Christian was tried as a juvenile and was imprisoned at the Gardner House until his nineteenth birthday.

January 12, 1982	Miami, Florida, United States	Steven Wayne Holmes, 15	1 dead	Francisco Walker, 24, a sixth-grade teacher at Edison Middle School, is stabbed to death when he attempted to chase a teenaged trespasser off of the school grounds. 15-year-old Steven Wayne Holmes is later arrested and charged with first degree murder.
March 19, 1982	Las Vegas, Nevada, United States	Pat Lizotte, 17	1 dead, 3 injured	Clarence Piggott, a 55-year-old psychology and sociology teacher, was shot to death and two students were wounded by a high school senior who was later wounded by the police. The teacher was shot in the heart shortly before classes began at 8:00 a.m. at Valley High School.
April 7, 1982	Littleton, Colorado, United States	Jason Rocha, 14	1 dead	Jason Rocha, a 14-year-old student, shot and killed 13 year-old Scott Darwin Michael, a fellow student at Deer Creek Middle School in Littleton, Colorado. Rocha was charged as an adult and sentenced to 12-years in prison for the murder.
January 20, 1983	St. Louis County, Missouri, United States	David F. Lawler, 14	2 dead, 1 injured	14-year old David F. Lawler brings two family owned pistols to school in a blue duffel bag and opens fire on two classmates at 11:55 a.m., killing one and injuring the other. June 3, 1983	Eppstein-Vockenhausen, Germany	Karel Charva, 34	6 dead, 14 injured	Eppstein school shooting. 34-year-old Czech refugee Karel Charva, fatally shot three students, a teacher and a police officer and injured another 14 people with two semi-automatic pistols, before committing suicide at the Freiherr-vom-Stein Gesamtschule.
December 16, 1983	Rockford, Illinois, United States	Michael Graham, 15	1 wounded	Michael Graham, a 15-year-old student at Boylan Central Catholic High School, shot and wounded his German teacher, Sharon Mundt, who had previously disciplined him for misbehaviour, in front of his class.

November 26, 1985	Spanaway, Washington, United States	Heather Smith, 14	3 dead	Heather Smith fatally shot her ex-boyfriend Gordon Pickett and his friend Chris Ricco as they were leaving wrestling practice at Spanaway Junior High School. Smith committed suicide at the school several hours later during a standoff with sheriff’s deputies.
December 10, 1985	Portland, Connecticut, United States	Floyd Warmsley, 13	1 dead, 2 injured	13-year-old student Floyd Warmsley fatally shot a school custodian, wounded the principal and school secretary, and held a student hostage with a rifle at Portland Junior High School in Portland, Connecticut after he had been suspended for refusing to take off his hat while in school. December 4, 1986	Lewistown, Montana, United States	Kristopher Hans, 14	1 dead, 3 injured	14-year old Kristofer Hans, angry over a failing grade, shoots and kills a substitute teacher for a French classroom, and then later wounded a vice principal and two students.
March 2, 1987	De Kalb, Missouri, United States	Nathan Ferris, 12	2 dead	After constant teasing and humiliation about his weight, Nathan Ferris armed himself with a pistol and killed a fellow student after he bullied him in class. He then turned the gun on himself.
February 11, 1988	Pinellas Park, Florida, United States	Jason Edward Harless, 15 Jason McCoy, 15	1 dead, 3 injured	Pinellas Park High School shooting. Jason Harless and Jason McCoy, both students, brought stolen guns to Pinellas Park High School. They used them to kill principal Richard Allen and injure an assistant principal and an assistant physical education teacher. Harless received a gunshot wound from police and McCoy was arrested without injury. Both served prison terms.
December 16, 1988	Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States	Nicholas Elliott, 16	1 dead, 1 injured	Nicholas Elliott came to Atlantic Shores Christian School armed with a firearm an adult relative purchased for him. He shot two teachers, one fatally, before barging into a portable classroom full of students. The gun jammed and Elliott was tackled. When the teacher that tackled him demanded to know why, he said "They hate me. They make fun of me. They hit me."
January 24, 1989	Rauma, Finland	..., 14	2 dead	Two students were fatally shot by a 14-year old student at the Raumanmeri secondary school, in Rauma, Finland. The shooter had claimed to be a victim of bullying.
August 26, 1990	Las Vegas, Nevada, United States	Curtis Collins, 15	1 dead	Curtis Collins, a sophomore at Eldorado High School, shot and killed 16-year-old Donnie Lee Bolden inside the school cafeteria. Police said that the shooting was gang-related.
September 21, 1990	Houston, Texas, United States	..., 16	1 dead	A 16-year-old girl fatally stabbed her classmate, 18-year-old Anthony Johnson, in the upper back with a hunting knife in a classroom at Jesse H. Jones High School, in Houston, Texas; Johnson later died at Ben Taub Hospital. The suspect was then placed in the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department. It was reported that the possible motive was the victim making an insulting comment about the suspect's clothing.
January 8, 1991	Richardson, Texas, United States	Jeremy Wade Delle, 15	1 dead	Jeremy Wade Delle brought a .357 Magnum to Richardson High School and committed suicide in front of his class of about 30 students.
April 10, 1991	Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom	Barbara Glover, 16	1 dead	16-year-old Diane Watson is stabbed to death by 16-year-old Barbara Glover at Whitehall Secondary School in Glasgow. Both Watson and Glover were students at the school.
April 23, 1991	Compton, California, United States	...	1 dead	A teenager aimed and fired a handgun at a security guard who had chased him and three friends off the grounds of Ralph J. Bunche Middle School. However, instead of hitting his intended target, the bullet struck 11-year-old bystander Alejandro Vargas, a student at the school, killing him.
May 9, 1991	Reserve, Louisiana, United States	Brenda Carter, 16	1 dead	19-year-old senior Debbie Morantes is stabbed to death by 16-year-old sophomore Brenda Carter inside the cafeteria of East St. John High School. Brenda Carter was convicted of second-degree murder two years later.
October 9, 1991	New York City, New York, United States	...	1 dead	17-year-old Tryon Whittaker was shot to death by another youth outside of James Monroe High School in The Bronx. The boys had reportedly got into an argument and Whittaker challenged the other youth to a fight. The youth then walked away but returned with a gun and shot Whittaker.
November 14, 1991	Houston, Texas, United States	..., 16	1 injured	18-year-old Francisco Contreras was shot four times in his feet and leg outside the cafeteria of Milby High School, in Houston, Texas, by a 16-year-old student, who was arrested afterward.
May 1, 1992	Olivehurst, California, United States	Eric Houston, 20	4 dead, 10 injured	Lindhurst High School shooting. Armed with a pistol, 20-year-old Eric Houston took hostages at his former high school, killing four people and wounding 10. His motive was his inability to find a good job due to the fact that he had failed a grade at school. He was given the death penalty for the shooting.

September 21, 1992	New York City, New York, United States	Michael Bubb, 15	1 dead	Damion Ennis, 15, is stabbed to death by a fellow student in a hallway of South Shore High School.
January 18, 1993	Grayson, Kentucky United States	Scott Pennington, 17	2 dead	Scott Pennington shot and killed teacher Deanna McDavid and custodian Marvin Hicks after entering McDavid's classroom at East Carter High School. One of those shot, Randel Artis, would die of his gunshot injuries. The three boys had apparently been engaged in a long running dispute.

February 24, 1993	New York City, New York, United States	Justin Rodriguez, 15	1 dead	15-year-old Angel Jimenez is stabbed to death by another 15-year-old student in a hallway of Junior High School 25. The stabbing was sparked by a dispute between the two boys over who owned a pair of sunglasses.
March 18, 1993	Harlem, Georgia, United States	Edward Bryant Gillom, 15	1 dead, 1 injured	Edward Bryant Gillom, a freshman at Harlem High School, shot two fellow students, killing 15-year-old Ronrecas Gibson.
September 17, 1993	Sheridan, Wyoming, United States	Kevin Newman, 29	1 dead, 4 injured	4 students of a physical education class were wounded at Central Middle School in Sheridan, Wyoming, when 29-year-old Kevin Newman fired at them with a handgun. He then committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. A suicide note found in Newman's motel room revealed that he was unhappy with his life and thought of himself as an evil person.
October 6, 1993	Hausleiten, Austria	..., 13	1 dead, 1 injured	A 13-year-old student, waiting at the entrance of the Hauptschule in Hausleiten, shot and wounded the principal of the school with a rifle before committing suicide. The student was caught smoking the day before and the principal told the boy he had to inform his parents about it.
December 1, 1993	Wauwatosa, Wisconsin United States	Leonard McDowell, 21	1 dead	Leonard McDowell, a 21-year-old former student at Wauwatosa West High School, shot Associate Principal Dale Breitlow three times with a .44-cal. Taurus revolver in a second-floor hallway. McDowell was found guilty of the murder and sane at the time of the shooting. His life sentence was upheld by the state Court of Appeals in April, 1997.
December 17, 1993	Chelsea, Michigan, United States	Steve Leith	1 dead, 2 injured	Steve Leith, a science teacher at Chelsea High School walked in to a staff meeting being held at the school and shot and killed the district superintendent and wounded the school principal and a teacher. Leith was then arrested by police.

Cloud would serve nine years in prison for the murder. The motive for the shooting was sexual abuse that was alleged to have been perpetrated by Summers against Cloud since Cloud was 13-years-old.

Police later arrested two men in connection with the shooting.

Head had been a longtime target for bullies because of his weight and thick glasses. He shot and killed a custodian and wounded the assistant principal, a teacher and a police officer before being arrested.

November 15, 1995	Lynnville, Tennessee, United States	Jamie Rouse, 17	2 dead, 1 injured	The Richland High School shooting occurred when 17-year-old Jamie Rouse walked into the school and shot two teachers in the head, killing one, armed with a .22 Remington Viper. He then fired at the assistant football coach but hit a 14-year-old freshman in the neck, killing her. Stephen Abbott was also charged with criminal responsibility for driving Rouse to school knowing he was armed and intended to shoot up his school.
December 8, 1995	Maida Vale, London, England, United Kingdom	Learco Chindamo, 15	1 dead	Headmaster Philip Lawrence was stabbed to death outside the gates of his school by 15-year-old Learco Chindamo at St George's Roman Catholic Secondary School in Maida Vale, London.
February 2, 1996	Moses Lake, Washington, United States	Barry Loukaitis, 14	3 dead, 1 injured	Armed with a high-powered hunting rifle and two handguns, 14-year-old Barry Loukaitis killed his algebra teacher and two students before taking hostages. He also shot a girl in the arm, who he released during the hostage situation. The incident ended when a teacher burst into the room and tackled him. Loukaitis is now serving life in prison.
February 8, 1996	Menlo Park, California, United States	Douglas Bradley, 16	1 dead, 3 injured	16-year-old student Douglas Bradley drove his vehicle on the campus of Mid-Peninsula High School in Menlo Park, California, and fired at students with a .38-caliber revolver, hitting one in the leg with a bullet and causing injury to two others from shattered glass. Bradley then shot himself in the head, dying the next morning at Stanford University Medical Center.

January 27, 1997	West Palm Beach, Florida, United States	Tronneal Mangum, 13	1 dead	13-year-old Tronneal Mangum shot and killed another student, 14-year-old John Kamel, in front of Conniston Middle School. Mangum was reportedly upset that Kamel had failed to repay a $40 debt.
February 19, 1997	Bethel, Alaska, United States	Evan Ramsey, 16	2 dead, 2 injured	Armed with a pump-action 12 gauge shotgun, Evan Ramsey killed a student and the principal of Bethel High School, and wounded two others. He is now serving a 210 year sentence.
March 30, 1997	Sana'a, Yemen	Mohammad Ahman al-Nazari, 48	6 dead, 13 injured	Sana'a school shooting. Mohammad Ahman al-Nazari, 48, conducted a massacre at Tala'i Private School in the Asbahi township. Armed with an illegaly obtained Kalashnikov assault rifle he waited for the headmistress and killed her by shooting her in the head. After killing a cafeteria worker and injuring a bus driver who came to help he entered the school building and walked from classroom to classroom, shooting indiscriminately at teachers and students. Subsequently he went to nearby Musa Bin Nusayr School where he continued his rampage, that left a total of six people dead and 12 others wounded, before he himself was injured and arrested.
April 28, 1997	Cumberland County, New Jersey, United States	Peter Henriques, 16	1 dead	16-year-old student Nielsa Mason is beaten to death by fellow student Peter Henriques inside the boys’ locker room at Cumberland Regional High School.
May 5, 1997	Zöbern, Austria	Helmut Z., 15	1 dead, 1 injured	15-year-old student Helmut Z. shot and killed a teacher at his school in Zöbern, after she intervened when he tried to rape a girl. He also shot and injured another teacher with the revolver he had stolen from his father, before trying to escape on his bike. Helmut Z. was arrested and sentenced to eight years in prison.
October 1, 1997	Pearl, Mississippi, United States	Luke Woodham, 16	3 dead, 7 injured	Student 16-year-old Luke Woodham stabbed and beat his mother to death, then took a .30-.30 lever-action deer hunting rifle to Pearl High School where he shot into a crowd of students, killing his ex-girlfriend Christina Menefee and her friend Lydia Kay Dew and wounded seven other students. The incident was ended when Vice Principal Joel Myrick took his personal .45 Colt handgun out of his vehicle and brandished it at Woodham. Woodham later claimed that he did not remember killing his mother.
October 22, 1997	Norwalk, California, United States	Khoa Truc Dang, 21	2 dead	Khoa Truc Dang entered the school of his ex-girlfriend, Catherine Tran, and shot her dead. He then committed suicide.
December 1, 1997	West Paducah, Kentucky, United States	Michael Carneal, 14	3 dead, 5 injured	Heath High School shooting. Michael Carneal, a 14-year old freshman at Heath High School in West Paducah, Kentucky, opened fire on a prayer circle at his school killing three students and injuring five.
December 15, 1997	Stamps, Arkansas, United States	Joseph Todd, 14	2 injured	14-year old Joseph Todd launched a sniper attack at his school that left two students wounded.
March 24, 1998	Jonesboro, Arkansas, United States	Mitchell Johnson, 13 Andrew Golden, 11	5 dead, 10 injured	Westside Middle School massacre. 13-year-old Mitchell Johnson and 11-year-old Andrew Golden set off the fire alarm in their Jonesboro school and then, from the woods, open fire on classmates and teachers as they flee the building. Four female students and a teacher are killed, with nine other students and a teacher being wounded in the incident.
April 24, 1998	Edinboro, Pennsylvania, United States	Andrew Wurst, 14	1 dead, 3 injured	14-year-old Andrew J. Wurst went to the school graduation dance where he shot and killed a popular science teacher. He subsequently opened fire on more students, wounding another teacher and two classmates before he ran out of ammunition.
May 19, 1998	Fayetteville, Tennessee, United States	Jacob Davis, 18	1 dead	Three days before graduation, 18-year-old Jacob Davis shoots and kills a 17-year old student in the parking lot of his school after a dispute regarding his girlfriend.
May 21, 1998	Springfield, Oregon, United States	Kip Kinkel, 15	4 dead, 25 injured	Kip Kinkel opened fire with a .22 rifle at Thurston Senior High School, killing two students and wounding 25 before being tackled by a wounded student. His parents were later found at home, murdered by Kinkel. He is now serving 111 years in prison without parole.
January 8, 1999	Carrollton, Georgia, United States	Jeff Miller, 17	2 dead	17-year-old Jeff Miller fatally shot his girlfriend, 15-year-old Andrea Garrett, and then killed himself in a suicide pact at Central High School in Carrollton, Georgia.
April 20, 1999	Jefferson County, Colorado, United States	Eric Harris, 18 Dylan Klebold, 17	15 dead, 25 injured	Columbine High School massacre. Two teenage students, Eric Harris—carrying a carbine rifle and a sawed-off pump-action shotgun—and Dylan Klebold—carrying a TEC-9 pistol and a sawed-off 12 gauge double-barreled shotgun—shot and killed 12 students and a teacher, and injured 21 other students and a teacher at Columbine High School. Two more students and a teacher were injured escaping. Ten of the 12 students killed were shot at nearly point-blank range while hiding under tables in the school library in seven minutes by the two shooters. Both were armed with numerous pipe bombs, napalm, knives, and other homemade explosives. Two propane time bombs (which only one partially detonated) were set in the school cafeteria. After their rampage, Harris and Klebold died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head. Both are believed to have committed suicide simultaneously and both bodies were found in the back of the library together. Columbine High School is located in the Columbine CDP of Jefferson County, near the cities of Denver and Littleton.
April 28, 1999	Taber, Alberta, Canada	Todd Cameron Smith, 14	1 dead, 1 injured	W. R. Myers High School shooting. In both the first school shooting since the Columbine shootings and the first Canadian school shooting in over six years, Todd Cameron Smith brought a sawn-off .22 rifle to W.R Myers High School and shot two students, killing one.
May 20, 1999	Conyers, Georgia, United States	T.J. Solomon, 15	6 injured	15-year old T.J. Solomon, armed with a .22-caliber rifle and a handgun, opened fire at Heritage High School, wounding six students.
July 29, 1999	Soweto, South Africa	Charles Raboroko, 39	3 dead	Teacher Charles Raboroko shot and killed three of his colleagues in the staffroom at Anchor Comprehensive High School in Soweto. When he tried to escape he was hindered by angry students outside the school, whereupon he hid in a classroom, where he was later arrested by police. Raboroko was said to have beared a grudge against one of his victims, Henry Lebea, whom he killed with five shots in the head.
August 11, 1999	Sekinchan, Malaysia	Na Teck Ker, 42	6 injured	After he had been humiliated by friends, Na Teck Ker, a 42-year-old fisherman, bought a parang and headed for Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Yoke Kuan in Sekinchan, where he set his motorcycle ablaze, before chasing and randomly attacking students. When he was finally overpowered by teachers and passers-by he had already injured six pupils. Na Teck Ker was handed over to police and sentenced to 42 months in jail.
October 20, 1999	Houston, Texas, United States	Estanislao Balderas, 14	1 dead	Balderas stabbed a 13-year-old boy named Samuel Avila in the head with a screwdriver in a fight at Deady Middle School. Samuel Avila died. Balderas was arrested and prosecuted.
November 9, 1999	Meißen, Germany	Andreas S., 15	1 dead	A masked student, who was only identified as Andreas S., fatally stabbed teacher Sigrun Leuteritz 22 times with a kitchen knife in front of his classmates, before trying to escape. The student was later arrested and sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison.
November 19, 1999	Deming, New Mexico, United States	Victor Cordova, Jr., 12	1 dead	12-year old Victor Cordova Jr. dressed in camouflage and shot 13-year old Araceli Tena. Tena died a day later from sustained wounds in life support.
December 6, 1999	Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, United States	Seth Trickey, 13	4 injured	13-year old Seth Trickey armed himself with a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun and opened fire of 15 rounds at Fort Gibson Middle School, injuring four classmates.
December 7, 1999	Veghel, Netherlands	Ali D., 17	5 injured	17-year old Ali D., of Kurdish origin, shot and injured five people at a school. He claimed he wanted to avenge the family honour by shooting his sister's boyfriend, who he believed had brought the family honour to disgrace. The boyfriend, three other students and a teacher were injured in the shooting. Ali D. was sentenced to five years in prison, his father was sentenced to eight years.
March 16, 2000	Brannenburg, Bavaria, Germany	Michael F., 16	1 dead, 1 injured	A 16-year-old student fatally shot a teacher and then shot himself in an unsuccessful suicide attempt, and has been in a coma ever since.
April 20, 2000	Orleans, Ontario, Canada	..., 15	5 injured	A 15-year-old student at Cairine Wilson Secondary School pulled out a steak knife and stabbed a fellow student whom he was conversing with, and then ran through the school stabbing another three students and a teacher’s aide. Michael Jordan, the school principal. finally convinced the youth to surrender the weapon.
May 26, 2000	Lake Worth, Florida, United States	Nate Brazill, 13	1 dead	One teacher, Barry Grunow, had been shot and killed at Lake Worth Middle School by 13-year old Nate Brazill with .25-caliber semiautomatic pistol on the last day of classes. Brazill was convicted of the murder and sentenced to twenty-five years in prison.
January 18, 2001	Bromma, Stockholm, Sweden	..., 17 ..., 19	1 dead	A 16-year-old student was shot to death in a toilet facility of the Bromma Gymnasium, in Stockholm, Sweden. Two other students, ages 17 and 19, were charged with the murder.
March 5, 2001	Santee, California, United States	Charles Andrew Williams, 15	2 dead, 13 injured	Armed with a .22-caliber revolver, 15-year-old Charles Andrew Williams opened fire in a male toilet facility at Santana High School in Santee, California, killing one student. Then exiting the restroom, Williams fired indiscriminately at nearby students, killing another student and wounding 13. Shortly afterward he retreated back into the restroom, where he surrendered to police. In June 2002, Williams was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

March 22, 2001	El Cajon, California, United States	Jason Hoffman, 18	5 injured	18-year-old student Jason Hoffman opened fire with a handgun and shotgun at Granite Hills High School, in El Cajon, California, wounding three students and two teachers.
March 26, 2001	Machakos, Kenya	Felix Mambo Ngumbao, 16, and Davies Otieno Onyango, 17	67 dead, 19 injured	Two students set fire to a dormitory at Kyanguli Secondary School located in Machakos, 30 miles southeast of Nairobi, after the final exam results were annulled and payment of their outstanding school fees was demanded. 67 people perished in the flames and another 19 were injured, including one of the perpetrators.
March 30, 2001	Gary, Indiana, United States	Donald Ray Burt Jr., 17	1 dead	Donald Ray Burt Jr., a 17-year-old expelled student, shot and killed 16-year-old student Neal Boyd III in the parking lot of Lew Wallace High School, in Gary, Indiana.
November 12, 2001	Caro, Michigan, United States	Chris Buschbacher, 17	1 dead	17-year old Chris Buschbacher, armed with a .22-caliber rifle and a 20-gauge shotgun, took one teacher and one student hostage at the Caro Learning Center before killing himself.
January 15, 2002	New York, New York, United States	Vincent Rodriguez, 17	2 injured	17-year-old Vincent Rodriguez shot and wounded two students at Martin Luther King, Jr. High School in Manhattan, New York City, with a .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol. The possible motive was that the victims had harassed Rodriguez's girlfriend.
February 19, 2002	Freising, Germany	Adam Labus, 22	4 dead, 1 injured	22-year-old Adam Labus killed his former boss and a worker in Eching, before driving to his former school in Freising where he shot and killed the principal and injured another teacher. He then committed suicide.
April 26, 2002	Erfurt, Thuringia, Germany	Robert Steinhäuser, 19	17 dead, 7 injured	Erfurt massacre. 19-year-old Robert Steinhäuser, who was permanently expelled from school in October 2001, entered the Gutenberg-Gymnasium in Erfurt and shot and killed 13 teachers, two students and a police officer. He also wounded seven other people. He then committed suicide.
April 30, 2002	Vlasenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina	Dragoslav Petkovic, 17	2 dead, 1 injured	17-year old Dragoslav Petkovic shot and killed his history teacher outside the school. He then made his way into the building where he shot and seriously injured another teacher. Petkovic then committed suicide inside the classroom with thirty students present.
January 26, 2003	Suixi county, China	Chen Peiquan, 35	4 dead, 3 injured	Chen Peiquan, an English teacher with a history of mental problems, stabbed six students and a teacher in a dormitory at Yang Gan Middle School, killing four of them. He was arrested after fleeing to the roof of the building.
January 27, 2003	Taiuva, Brazil	Edmar Aparecido Freitas, 18	1 dead, 8 injured	18-year-old Edmar Freitas shot and wounded six students, a teacher and a janitor with a 38-caliber revolver at Escola Estadual Coronel Benedito Ortiz, his former school where had been bullied for being overweight. He then committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.
April 14, 2003	New Orleans, Louisiana, United States	Steven Williams, James Tate[7]	1 dead, 4 injured	John McDonogh High School shooting. 15-year-old Jonathan Williams, a student and football player, was fatally shot while sitting on the bleachers in the gymnasium of John McDonogh Senior High School, by two men armed with an AK-47 assault rifle and a handgun. The two gunmen fired at least 18 rounds from their weapons, shattering Williams' face, and injuring three girls.
April 24, 2003	Red Lion, Pennsylvania, United States	James Sheets, 14	2 dead	Red Lion Area Junior High School shooting. 14-year-old student James Sheets, armed with .44 and .357-caliber revolvers and a .22-caliber pistol, shot and killed Principal Eugene Segro and then committed suicide in the school cafeteria of Red Lion Area Junior High School, in Red Lion, Pennsylvania.
June 6, 2003	Amphoe Pak Phanang, Thailand	Anatcha Boonkwan, 17	2 dead, 4 injured	Two students were killed and another four injured at Pak Phanang school, when Anatcha Boonkwan shot at them with a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol he had stolen from his father. The shooting apparently was triggered by an argument he had with one of his victims, the day before.
July 2, 2003	Coburg, Bavaria, Germany	Florian Klein, 16	1 dead, 1 injured	Florian Klein, a 16-year-old student, fired at his teacher in his classroom, in a comprehensive school in Coburg, Germany. A second female teacher who struggled with the weapon was shot in the thigh and injured. Klein then turned a second gun on himself and committed suicide.
September 24, 2003	Cold Spring, Minnesota, United States	Jason McLaughlin, 15	2 dead	Rocori High School shooting. 15-year-old Jason McLaughlin shot Aaron Rollins and Seth Bartell at Rocori High School with a .22- caliber pistol. Rollins died the same day; Bartell died October 10 of injuries sustained in the attack.
January 13, 2004	Den Haag, The Netherlands	Murat Demir, 17	1 dead	Murat Demir shot Hans van Wieren, a 49-year-old teacher and vice principal at Stevincollege, also called Terra College by some. Van Wieren was taken to the hospital and died on January 13 in the evening as a result of his gun shot wound.
February 2, 2004	Washington, D.C., United States	Thomas J. Boykin, 19	1 dead	19 year old Thomas J. Boykin fatally shot 17 year old James Richardson at Ballou Senior High School. Boykin was later acquitted on the charge of murder.
February 3, 2004	Palmetto Bay, Florida, United States	Michael Hernandez, 14	1 dead	14-year old Michael Hernandez stabbed and slit the throat of a 14-year-old classmate, Jaime Rodrigo Gough, while in a restroom at Southwood Middle School. Hernandez was tried as an adult, and sentenced to life in prison without parole. A search of his home revealed he had concocted plans to murder several classmates and his older sister. His journal revealed he was obsessed with perfection and Christianity, and admired Adolf Hitler and the Nazis.

Cervantes-Lavelle then committed suicide.

March 2, 2005	Cumberland City, Tennessee, United States	Jason Clinard, 14	1 dead	14-year old Jason Clinard shot and killed school bus driver Joyce Gregory, who had been carrying a bus of approximately 24 students.
March 21, 2005	Red Lake, Minnesota, United States	Jeffrey Weise, 16	10 dead, 12+ injured	Red Lake High School massacre. Jeffrey Weise, a student at Red Lake High School in Red Lake, Minnesota, killed his grandfather and his grandfather's girlfriend before killing seven more people, comprising of five students, a teacher and an unarmed security guard at Red Lake High School. The attack concluded when Weise exchanged fire with police, and then retreated to a classroom where he fatally shot himself.

After being confronted about bringing a gun on school property, 14-year old Kenneth Bartley opened fire on three school administrators at Campbell County High School, killing assistant principal Ken Bruce and critically wounding the principal and another assistant principal. The shooting was not premeditated.
January 13, 2006	Longwood, Florida, Florida, United States	Christopher David Penley, 15	1 dead	15-year-old Christopher Penley held his classroom at Milwee Middle School, in Longwood, Florida, Florida, gunpoint and holed himself in a restroom alcove, holding law enforcement at bay. He was eventually shot by a SWAT member, after raising the weapon at an officer. The weapon was a pellet gun.

March 14, 2006	Reno, Nevada, United States	James Scott Newman, 14	2 injured	Pine Middle School shooting. 14-year-old student James Newman brought a .38-caliber revolver to Pine Middle School in Reno, Nevada, and shot and injured two students at random in the school's hallway before being restrained by a physical education teacher. Newman was charged as a juvenile for two counts of battery with a deadly weapon and was sentenced to house arrest and 200 hours of community service.
June 6, 2006	Los Angeles, California, United States	...	1 dead	17-year-old Venice High School junior Augustine Contreras was shot and killed in one of the school's parking lots shortly after the day's classes ended. He was shot after he went to the aid of his brothers, who were involved in a fight with several other young men. The fight was reportedly stemmed from a local gang dispute between Latino and black students. Two arrests were made but the suspects were released shortly thereafter.
August 30, 2006	Hillsborough, North Carolina, United States	Alvaro Rafael Castillo, 19	1 dead, 2 injured	19-year-old Alvaro Rafael Castillo opened fire at Orange High School with a rifle and shotgun, shooting eight times and wounding two students. Officers ordered him to stop firing and he immediately complied. Castillo killed his father with a firearm before driving to school in a van. In the van police officers found ammunition, pipe bombs, and other weapons. Castillo will be charged with first-degree murder in the death of his father while charges for the school shooting are pending.
September 27, 2006	Bailey, Colorado, United States	Duane Morrison, 53	2 dead, 6 injured	A gunman, later identified as 53-year-old Duane Morrison of Denver, took six female students hostage at Platte Canyon High School. After sexually assaulting some of them, he released four of the hostages. When 16-year-old Emily Keyes tried to run away, Morrison shot her in the back of the head before killing himself. Keyes was flown to St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver, where she died a short time later.
September 29, 2006	Cazenovia, Wisconsin, United States	Eric Hainstock, 15	1 dead	Eric Hainstock, 15, a freshman at Weston High School, brought a shotgun and a handgun to school and confronted the principal. The shotgun was wrestled away from him, but in a struggle over the handgun Hainstock shot the principal, who died later of his wounds. Hainstock had complained that the principal and teachers had failed to stop homophobic bullying directed at him. He also had recently received discipline for bringing tobacco to school and throwing a stapler at a teacher. Hainstock suffered from long term ADHD and abusive treatment at home. He was tried as an adult and sentenced to life in prison.
October 9, 2006	Joplin, Missouri, United States	Thomas White, 13	no injuries	A 13-year-old student fired a cheap imitation AK-47 inside his middle school after confronting two others students and his principal. The student was wearing a mask and had pointed the gun at the principal, the assistant superintendent and two students. After firing a shot into the ceiling and breaking a water pipe, the student's gun jammed when he attempted to fire additional shots. The student was then confronted by police officers and taken into custody. Officers also found a note in the student's backpack indicating that he had placed an explosive in the school (which has 700 students). No one was injured in the incident.
October 19, 2006	Orlando, Florida, United States	Kelvin De La Cruz, 17	1 dead	17-year-old Kelvin De La Cruz stabbed 15-year-old Michael Nieves in the chest with a pocket knife at a school bus stop of the Main Campus at University High School. After he stabbed him, Cruz hid under the bus and attempted to change his clothes, but was apprehended and charged with first-degree murder. Nieves died two hours after being stabbed.
November 20, 2006	Emsdetten, Germany	Sebastian Bosse, 18	1 dead, 37 injured	An 18-year-old former student entered the Geschwister Scholl school in western Germany with two sawed off shotguns and a set of explosive devices. The rampage started when Bosse shot and wounded six people with the two sawed off shotguns. Police stormed the building, and the shooter released several smoke bombs as he retreated to the third floor, which caused injuries to people inside the school and police officers due to smoke inhalation. The suspect had then took his own life.

His motive was to shoot at a class in which he was enrolled, unhappy that the instructor had called his parents; the classrooms he hit, however, were not his intended target .

September 11, 2007	Toronto, Ontario, Canada	Unknown	1 dead	Dineshkumar Murugiah, a 16-year-old student, was fatally stabbed in an alleyway siding Winston Churchill Collegiate Institute, in the Scarborough part of Toronto, Ontario. Murugiah was on lunch break during the stabbing, which occurred around 12:05 p.m. local time. No suspects were ever sought in the stabbing.
September 28, 2007	Oroville, California, United States	Greg Dean Wright, 17	no injuries	17-year-old student Greg Wright held twenty-seven students and a teacher hostage in a classroom at Las Plumas High School, in Oroville, California, for about two hours before surrendering to law enforcement; all but three of the hostages were released an hour within. Several shots were fired towards the air from Wright's weapon, a .22-caliber semi-automatic handgun, during the crisis. Wright was tried and convicted in adult court on charges of false imprisonment and firearms offenses and was sentenced to 22 years in prison in January 2008.

Coon, 14	1 dead, 4 injured	SuccessTech Academy shooting. 14-year-old student Asa Coon, reportedly upset about a school suspension, went on a shooting spree at SuccessTech Academy, an alternative high school in Cleveland, Ohio, wounding two students and two teachers. He then fatally shot himself in a classroom.
October 11, 2007	Amsterdam, Netherlands	Hüseyin P., 14	1 dead	A 14-year-old student, identified only as Hüseyin P., stabbed 16-year-old classmate Youssef Mokhtari to death at a school in the Slotervaart borough of Amsterdam, Netherlands. The victim had reportedly made a joke about the surname of the perpetrator.
November 7, 2007	Tuusula, Finland	Pekka-Eric Auvinen, 18	9 dead, 1 injured	Jokela school shooting. 18-year-old student Pekka-Eric Auvinen opened fire with a .22-caliber semi-automatic SIG Mosquito pistol at Jokela High School, in Tuusula, Finland. Six students, the school principal, and the school nurse were killed. The forty-minute attack ended when Auvinen shot himself in the head, later dying that evening at a Helsinki hospital.
December 11, 2007	Gurgaon, Haryana, India	Akash Vadav, 14; Vikas Yadav, 13	1 dead	14-year-old student Abhishek Tyagi was shot five times at the Euro International School, in Gurgaon, India. Two other students, 14-year-old Akash Vadav and 13-year-old Vikas Yadav, were charged in connection with the shooting.
December 21, 2007	Union City, California, United States	Unknown	1 dead	Vernon Matthew Eddins, a 14-year-old student of James Logan High School, was shot dead at the doorstep of Barnard-White Middle School, in Union City, California. Police issued that the shooting was prompted by an argument escalating between Latino and African-American groups of teenagers. No suspects were ever sought.
January 8, 2008	Lower Alsace Township, Pennsylvania, United States	Ian Chimenko, 13	3 injured	13-year-old student Ian Chimenko stabbed three of his classmates in a clasroom at Antietam Middle-Senior High School, in Lower Alsace, Pennsylvania. Chimenko held faculty members at bay with a blowtorch before being subdued.
January 29, 2008	Mannar District, Sri Lanka	LTTE	17 dead, 14 injured	Madhu school bus bombing. An accidental explosion of a claymore mine planted by the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam), a Sri Lankan militant organization, targeting the armed forces, resulted in the deaths of 17 civilians, including 11 children on a school bus in the Mannar District. Sri Lanka is engaged in a war against LTTE, known for attacking and killing innocent civilians in many occasions throughout a period of more than 30 years of its' operation.
February 12, 2008	Oxnard, California, United States	Brandon David McInerney, 14	1 dead	15-year-old Lawrence Fobes King was shot in the head twice by 14-year-old classmate Brandon McInerney in the E.O. Green Junior High School computer lab in Oxnard, California. King was transported to St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard under serious condition. Examiners declared King brain dead the following day. It was suspected that the motivation of the shooting was McInerney suspecting King was gay, in which a hate crime charge was filed.
February 25, 2008	Leizhou, Guangdong, China	Chen Wenzhen	3 dead, 4 injured	Chen Wenzhen, a school drop-out with mental illness, attacked six students with a knife at Leizhou No. 2 Middle School, in Leizhou, China, killing two of them. He then committed suicide by stabbing himself in the abdomen and jumping out of a window in the fifth floor.
March 6, 2008	Mobile, Alabama, United States	Jajuan Holmes, 18	1 dead	Jajuan Holmes, an 18-year-old student on suspension, walked into the gym area at Davidson High School and shot himself in front of 150 students. The school was put on lockdown for the day.
April 28, 2008	Meyzieu, France	..., 15	4 injured	A 15-year-old student, whose name was only revealed as Philippe, stabbed a girl and two boys at Olivier de Serres middle school in Meyzieu, just after he had sent an SMS to a friend stating: "I will kill them." The boy, who was himself wounded during the attack, then escaped, but was arrested by police one hour later. Philippe, who was said to have been inspired by American school shootings and had planned the attack for several months, wanted to take revenge on 7-8 of his schoolmates with whom he didn't get along.
May 12, 2008	Cornwall, Ontario, Canada	..., 17	1 dead	A 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death in a classroom at the T.R. Leger School by a 17-year-old classmate shortly before noon. The suspect fled the scene along a nearby bicycle path, but following a brief foot chase, was apprehended without incident. It was later revealed that the two individuals were involved in a fight outside the school earlier that morning, and the suspect went home to get a knife before returning to school.

One student was killed and another student and two campus groundskeepers were wounded at Nic Diederichs Technical High School, in Krugersdorp, South Africa, after 18-year-old matrics student Morné Harmse had slashed them with a samurai sword.

August 21, 2008	Knoxville, Tennessee, United States	Jamar Siler, 15	1 dead	15-year-old Ryan McDonald was shot to death by 15-year-old fellow student Jamar Siler in the cafeteria of Central High School, in Knoxville, Tennessee.
September 16, 2008	Toronto, Ontario, Canada	Mark Deicsics, 18; Jermaine Williams, 16; two unidentified 16-year-old juveniles	1 injured	A 16-year-old student received a gunshot wound to the chest in the parking lot of the Bendale Business and Technical Institute, in Scarborough, Toronto, after a handgun was accidentally discharged during a botched robbery attempt involving several people. The victim was transported to Sunnybrook Hospital in critical condition, where he underwent emergency surgery. Police arrested four suspects, including the victim and two other juveniles.
October 31, 2008	Stockton Springs, Maine, United States	Randall Hofland, 55	no injuries	Eleven fifth-grade students were taken hostage in a classroom at Stockton Springs Elementary School, in Stockton Springs, Maine. The hostage situation ended within 30 minutes when the gunman surrendered to a state trooper. The hostage taker, 55-year-old Randall Hofland, was wanted by authorities for pointing a handgun at an officer during a traffic stop and then fleeing.

The shooter was arraigned on the charge of first-degree murder.

January 9, 2009	Chicago, Illinois, United States	Georgio Dukes, 18	5 injured	Five male teenagers leaving a basketball game held on the campus of Dunbar Vocational Career Academy, in the South Side area of Chicago, Illinois, received gunshot wounds after shots were fired from a passing vehicle. All five victims were sent to Chicago area hospitals, three of whom were treated for serious injuries. Police arrested 18-year-old Georgio Dukes a week after the shooting on five counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. Police determined that the attack was gang-related.
January 15, 2009	San Francisco, California, United States	..., 14	1 injured	A 14-year-old female student was struck eight times with a pair of scissors in a classroom at Marina Middle School, in San Francisco, California, by another 14-year-old female classmate. The victim suffered wounds to the head, arms, chest, and back and was treated at a local hospital. The attacker was arraigned on charges of attempted murder and assault.
March 3, 2009	Auckland, New Zealand	..., 17	1 injured	David Warren, a teacher at Avondale College, was stabbed in the back while writing on a whiteboard by a 17-year-old Korean exchange student at the school. Warren was transported to a hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries.
March 6, 2009	Fayetteville, North Carolina, United States	Terrance Donnell Johnson, Jr., 19	1 injured	A 15-year-old male was struck in the foot with a bullet at a parking lot of Westover High School, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The shooting occurred when 19-year-old Terrance Donnell Johnson, Jr. fired several shots from a handgun at his opponents during a fashion show held at the school.
March 11, 2009	Winnenden, Baden-Württemberg, Germany	Tim Kretschmer, 17	16 dead, 9 injured	Winnenden school shooting. 17-year-old graduate student Tim Kretschmer opened fire with a semi-automatic 9mm Beretta pistol in two classrooms at the Albertville-Realschule, in Winnenden, Germany, killing nine students and one teacher; another two teachers were shot to death in a hallway by Kretschmer as he fled the school. Kretschmer then killed a bystander outside a nearby psychiatric hospital, and fled by vehicle to Wendlingen, a neighboring town, where he killed two bystanders at a car dealership and instigated a gun-battle with police. Kretschmer committed suicide during the exchange of gunfire.

The two assailants, a 17-year-old student and his 19-year-old cousin, fled the school.
April 29, 2009	Portmore, St. Catherine, Jamaica	..., 15	1 injured	The Dean of Discipline of Ascot High School, in Portmore, Jamaica, was stabbed in the neck while inside his office by a 15-year-old student at the school. The dean was treated at a local hospital and released.
May 11, 2009	Sankt Augustin, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany	Tanja Otto, 16	1 injured	A 16-year-old student, Tanja Otto, entered the Albert Einstein gymnasium (high school), in Sankt Augustin, Germany, carrying knives, incendiary explosives, gunpowder, a flamethrower, and an air-powered pistol. Otto attempted to torch the school but was confronted by another student in the girls' restroom, who Otto then slashed in the hand. The victim's thumb was severed and she was treated a local hospital. Otto subsequently fled the school, and was apprehended several hours later by police.
May 18, 2009	Larose, Louisiana, United States	Justin Paul Doucet, 15	1 dead	Justin Doucet, a 15-year-old eighth grade student, fired one shot from a .25-caliber semi-automatic pistol above a teacher's head inside her classroom at Larose-Cut Off Middle School, in Larose, Louisiana, and then entered a restroom next door and shot himself through the chin. Doucet was lifted by air to Terrebonne General Medical Center where he died five days later from head wounds.
June 15, 2009	San Francisco, California, United States	Jacquez Tucker, 18; Unknown shooter	3 injured	Three people, including two students, were injured after several shots were fired into a crowd as a summer school class was just released at International Studies Academy High School, in San Francisco, California. The shooting occurred a block away from the campus. Police arrested an 18-year-old as an accessory in the shooting.
June 17, 2009	Mississauga, Ontario, Canada	..., 16 ..., 17	5 injured	Four students and a teacher suffered stab wounds after a fight at St. Joseph Secondary School, a Catholic high school in Mississauga, Ontario. Two of the injured students were transported to Credit Valley Hospital with severe stab wounds. Two students, ages 16 and 17, were later arrested and charged with attempted murder.
June 24, 2009	Parkersburg, Iowa, United States	Mark Becker, 24	1 dead	Mark Becker entered the weight room of Aplington-Parkersburg High School, in Parkersburg, Iowa, and shot football coach Ed Thomas inside. Thomas was airlifted to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, where he later died of his wounds. Becker was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
July 16, 2009	Ncabaneni, Swaziland	Sicelo Dlamini, 22	2 dead, 10 injured	Three boys and eight girls were stabbed with a spear by Sicelo Dlamini at classrooms in Ncabaneni High School, in Ncabaneni, Swaziland, who was then chased and beaten to death by a mob of outraged students. Besides Dlamini, one of the wounded girls died at the scene.
August 24, 2009	San Mateo, California, United States	Alex Robert Youshock, 17	no injuries	Two pipe bombs went off in a hallway of Hillsdale High School, in San Mateo, California, during the beginning of first period classes. Nobody was injured from the explosions. Alex Youshock, a 17-year-old former student of the school, was held by staff members until police arrived and was found with eight other pipe bombs, a two-foot-long sword, and a chainsaw concealed in a guitar case. Youshock was subsequently arrested and charged as an adult with eight felonies.
August 31, 2009	Welkom, Free State, South Africa	Jaco Stiglingh, 51	2 dead	Jaco Stiglingh, a teacher at Gimnasium High School in Welkom, South Africa shot and killed deputy principal Johan Liebenberg, 53, inside his office before turning the gun on himself and committing suicide.
September 11, 2009	Owosso, Michigan, United States	Harlan James Drake, 33	2 dead	James Pouillon, 63, was killed in a drive-by shooting in front of Owosso High School, in Michigan, where he was protesting against abortion. Several students witnessed the attack but none were injured. An hour later the body of business owner Mike Fuoss was found shot to death inside his office at Fuoss Gravel. Police arrested Harlan James Drake after the shootings and charged him with two counts of first-degree murder.
September 15, 2009	Coral Gables, Florida, United States	Andy Rodriguez, 17	1 dead	Juan Carlos Rivera, a 17-year-old student of Coral Gables Senior High School, located in the Coral Gables suburb of Miami, Florida, was stabbed in the chest by another student and died. The stabbing happened during a fight between the two students, reportedly over a girl. 17-year-old student Andy Rodriguez was arrested for the crime.
September 16, 2009	Antioch, California, United States	Yousuf Mohammad Aziz, 19; Unidentified shooter	1 injured	An 16-year-old student of Deer Valley High School, in Antioch, California, was shot in the arm and torso after an argument between two groups of young men. The shots were fired from a vehicle, which then drove off. The victim was lifted by air to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and underwent surgery. Yousuf Mohammad Aziz, a 19-year-old graduate of Deer Valley, was arrested on September 18 in connection with the shooting.
September 17, 2009	Ansbach, Bavaria, Germany	Georg R., 18	11 injured	An 18-year-old student identified as Georg R. arrived at Carolinum High School in Ansbach, Germany armed with an axe, knives and Molotov cocktails. He injured nine students and a teacher at the school before he himself was shot by police. Two of the injured students as well as the attacker were reported to be in critical condition.
September 23, 2009	Tyler, Texas, United States	...	1 dead	50-year-old Todd Henry, a special education teacher at John Tyler High School, was fatally stabbed by a student inside a classroom at the school. Henry later died of his injuries at a local hospital. The attacker was taken into custody.
October 16, 2009	Carolina Forest, South Carolina, United States	Trevor Varinecz, 16	1 dead, 1 injured	Trevor Varinecz, a junior at Carolina Forest High School, attacked and stabbed police officer Marcus Rhodes, the School Resource Officer, inside his office. Rhodes then shot Varinecz in self defense. Varinecz later died in hospital.
October 30, 2009	Long Beach, California, United States	Tom Vinson,16; Daivion Davis, 16	1 dead, 2 injured	16-year-old Melody Ross, a junior at Wilson Classical High School, was fatally shot leaving a homecoming game at the school. Two males, aged 18 and 20, were also injured in the shooting. Tom Vinson and Daivion Davis were later arrested and charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder.
January 20, 2010	Livingston, Alabama, United States	Telvin Gray, 32	1 dead	Telvin Gray shot and killed Starrick Gray, his estranged wife, at Livingston High School where she worked as a special education teacher. Telvin Gray then fled the scene but was later arrested by police and charged with murder.

A 12-year-old girl was also killed inside a classroom by a stray bullet, before the gunman tried to escape. He was later caught and killed by an angry mob.

David Gunby was wounded in the shooting but died 35 years later after ceasing kidney dialysis treatments stemming from the shooting.

Smith ordered the hostages to lie down on the floor in a circle. He then proceeded to shoot them in the head with a 22-caliber pistol. Four women and a three-year-old girl died, one woman and a baby were injured but survived. Police arrested Smith after the massacre. Smith had reportedly admired Richard Speck and Charles Whitman.

In the days leading up to February 8, 1968, about 200 mostly student protesters gathered on the campus of South Carolina State University, located in the city of Orangeburg, to protest the segregation of the All Star Bowling Lane. The bowling alley was owned by the late Harry K. Floyd. That night, students started a bonfire. As police attempted to put out the fire, an officer was injured by a thrown piece of banister. The police said they believed they were under attack by small weapons fire. The officers fired into the crowd, killing three young men: Samuel Hammond, Delano Middleton, and Henry Smith, and wounding twenty-seven others.

When trying to escape, he was apprehended by Howard Barnes, a security guard working with a television crew filming nearby. When he was told to drop his gun, Liebeskind fired a shot at Barnes, hitting him in the thigh. Barnes returned fire and hit the gunman twice in the chest, leaving him critically wounded. The shooting was apparently sparked, because of a dispute between Liebeskind and another student.

Duerkson, a University of Washington library employee, was walking between Parrington Hall and the Henry Art Gallery when Cutsinger shot him. Cutsinger was later convicted of first-degree murder.

July 1989	Seattle, Washington, United States	Azizolla Mazooni	2 dead	Azizolla Mazooni shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, Marjan Mohseninia, and her friend, Abraham Sharif-Kashani, in the University of Washington parking lot. Mazooni had hired a private detective to locate Mohseninia, who was a summer student at the university. Mazooni was later convicted on two counts of second-degree murder.
November 16, 1989	San Salvador, El Salvador	...	8 dead	Six Jesuit priests, their cook and his 15-year-old daughter were shot to death, when 30 men in military uniforms raided the Universidad Centroamericana "José Simeón Cañas".
December 6, 1989	Montreal, Quebec, Canada	Marc Lépine, 25	15 dead, 14 injured	École Polytechnique massacre. Marc Lépine took a hunting rifle into École Polytechnique de Montréal. He began his attack by entering a classroom at the university, where he separated the male and female students. After claiming that he was "fighting feminism", he shot all nine women in the room, killing six. He then moved through corridors, the cafeteria, and another classroom, specifically targeting women to shoot. He killed fourteen women and injured four men and ten women in just under twenty minutes before turning the gun on himself. It remains to this day the worst mass killing in Canadian history, on or off a school campus.

Xanthopoulos and his colleague Stephanos Pnevmatikos were shot to death by 32-year old post-graduate student Giorgos Petrodaskalakis at the University of Crete. Petrodaskalakis then committed suicide.
November 1, 1991	Iowa City, Iowa, United States	Gang Lu, 28	6 dead, 1 injured	After his dissertation did not win a certain academic award, Ph.D. physics student Gang Lu shot six people before committing suicide. Five were killed, including three professors. A student employee was paralyzed.

He shot and killed two female students and wounded two others. Soon afterwards he went to the men's room where he committed suicide.
December 8, 1994	Quezon City, Philippines	...	1 dead	Dennis Venturina, a Sigma Rhoan, was beaten to death by members of Scintilla Juris, a rival fraternity, on the campus of the University of the Philippines.
January 26, 1995	Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States	Wendell Williamson	2 dead, 2 injured	Wendell Williamson, a law student and schizophrenic, opened fire on Franklin Street with an M1 rifle, killing two and injuring two others, including a Chapel Hill police officer.
May 28, 1995	Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States	Sinedu Tadesse, 20	2 dead, 1 injured	Sinedu Tadesse stabbed her roommate, 20-year-old Trang Phuong Ho, to death with a hunting knife inside a dormitory at Harvard University. Tadesse also attacked one of Ho's visiting friends, 26-year-old Thao Nguyen, severely injuring her as well. Tadesse then hanged herself.

Davidson, shot Dr. Chen Liang, Dr. Constantinos Lyrintzis, and Dr. D. Preston Lowrey during a meeting at which he was to defend his master's thesis. He pleaded guilty to three counts of murder and is serving a life term in state prison .
September 17, 1996	University Park, Pennsylvania, United States	Jillian Robbins, 19	1 dead, 1 injured	Hetzel Union Building shooting. 19 year old Jillian Robbins opened fire on students walking to classes at The Pennsylvania State University, killing one student and wounding another.
October 16, 1996	West Lafayette, Indiana, United States	Jarrod Allen Eskew, 19	2 dead	On October 15, 1996 Jay Severson, 27 a Wiley Hall counselor at Purdue University caught Jarrod Allen Eskew, 19 of Crawfordsville, Indiana cutting cocaine in his dorm room. Severson called the Purdue Police Department but when they arrived Eskew had fled. Eskew returned the next day at 2:50 pm with a sawed off 12-gauge shotgun while under the influence of both marijuana and cocaine. Eskew went to Severson's Wiley Hall dorm room and fatally shot Severson in the head. He then barricaded himself in his third floor dorm room. A janitor found the body a short time later. SWAT and police took up positions around Wiley Hall. Police evacuated Wiley Hall, attempted to negotiate, fired tear gas, and stormed the room to find Eskew had taken his own life with the shotgun.

An organized death squad of 30 members of the Black Axe Confraternity orchestrated a series of shootings and murders which took place against students of Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria . It resulted in the deaths of eight people and injuring of 11, all of them students at OAU.

The shooting took place at 11:05 am when a man walked into the Eagle Bar on the La Trobe Bundoora campus armed with a .38 caliber revolver and shot and wounded a young woman before shooting bar manager Leon Capraro, killing him instantly. He then attempted to shoot at others but was restrained by patrons until police came and arrested him.

Chen closed the door to Haggett's office and pulled out a gun and killed Haggett. Chen then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.

Shortly afterward, 19-year-old Benjamin Varner, an RA in the same dorm, was found stabbed to death. An investigation led authorities to Joseph Mesa Jr., and Mesa was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder.

Holloway, who was standing outside a residence hall, and then killed himself after leaving a 16-page suicide note behind.
January 16, 2002	Grundy, Virginia United States	Peter Odighizuwa, 43	3 dead, 3 injured	Appalachian School of Law shooting. Peter Odighizuwa, a 43-year-old Nigerian national in the U.S. on a student visa and former student, shot and killed the dean, a professor, and a student at the Appalachian School of Law, in Grundy, Virginia; three other students were wounded. The attack was ended after Odighizuwa had run out of ammunition and when students subdued the shooter. The fact that two of those who subdued the shooter had firearms has been used to argue the benefit of carrying firearms in preventing violent crime. Odighizuwa was sentenced to multiple life terms in prison. The school later settled a lawsuit by some of the surviving victims and their families brought over the school's failure to take action earlier, when the student had shown signs of psychosis and had made threats.

Huan Xiang, a commerce student at the university, armed with five loaded handguns, opened fire in a tutorial room. Two students, William Wu and Steven Chan, were killed and five others seriously wounded. Xiang was found not guilty of murder due to mental illness, and was ordered to be sent to a psychiatric hospital.

Flores, Jr., 40, a failing nursing student and ex-Gulf War veteran, had shot and killed three professors before turning the gun onto himself and committing suicide. One professor was shot in her office, and two others were shot in a classroom.

September 13, 2006	Montreal, Quebec, Canada	Kimveer Gill, 25	2 dead, 19 injured	Dawson College shooting. Kimveer Gill had opened fire at Dawson College, a CEGEP in Westmount near downtown Montreal. Gill began shooting outside the de Maisonneuve Boulevard entrance to the school, and moved towards the atrium by the cafeteria on the main floor. One victim died later in the next day due to her serious injuries at the hospital, while another 19 were injured, eight of whom were listed in critical condition with six requiring surgery. The gunman later committed suicide by shooting himself in the head, after being shot in the arm by police.
September 17, 2006	Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States	...	5 injured	Shots were fired outside the campus of Duquesne University, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, after a dance party sponsored by the Black Student Union which several non-students were attending. Five members of the Duquesne Dukes basketball team were injured during the shooting including one who sustained critical injuries after an argument between one individual and two students.
January 16, 2007	Baghdad, Iraq	Iraqi militants	70 dead, 169 injured	Mustansiriya University bombings. Three explosions consisting of two car bombs and a suicide bomber occurred on the campus of the largely Shiite Mustansiriya University in Baghdad, Iraq. 70 people were killed and 169 were wounded in the attack.
January 25, 2007	Beirut, Lebanon	Pro-government attackers	4 dead, approximately 200 wounded	Four people were shot dead in clashes between pro- and anti-government activists on Thursday and about 200 were hurt in the violence that flared after a scuffle between students at the Beirut Arab University.
April 2, 2007	Seattle, Washington, United States	Jonathan Rowan, 41	2 dead	Rowan entered Gould Hall on the University of Washington's Seattle Campus and headed to the fourth floor where he entered the office of his ex-girlfriend Rebecca Griego, 26, a program coordinator for the College of Architecture and Urban Planning. Rowan fired two shots, the first taking Griego's life and the second taking his own life..
April 16, 2007	Blacksburg, Virginia, United States	Seung-Hui Cho, 23	33 dead, 25 injured	Virginia Tech massacre. Thirty-two people (27 students and five faculty members) were killed by Seung-Hui Cho, a 23-year-old senior English major, on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in two separate locations, about two hours apart: West Ambler Johnston Hall dormitory, where two were shot dead, and Norris Hall, where the remaining 30 were shot in an attack lasting nine minutes. Cho committed suicide in a classroom after law enforcement officers breached the main entrance doors of Norris Hall, which Cho had chained shut. Police reported that 25 others were injured, some in the Norris Hall shooting, while others when they jumped from second-story windows to escape. The attack is the deadliest peacetime shooting incident by a single gunman in United States history, on or off a school campus.
May 8, 2007	Bundoora, Victoria Australia	Sarah Jean Cheney, 23	1 injured	Sarah Jean Cheney stabbed Jemma Clancy, a 27-year-old behavioral science student, three times with a steak knife. The incident occurred in the Borchardt library at the Bundoora campus of La Trobe University. Sarah Jean Cheney did not know Jemma Clancy personally and expressed that she just desired to kill someone. Jemma Clancy was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.[8]
July 3 – July 11, 2007	Islamabad, Pakistan	hundreds of Islamic militant students	154 dead, ~44 injured	Lal Masjid siege. Pro-Taliban students barricaded themselves in the Lal Masjid mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan. The mosque is attached to a religious school for women (the Jamia Hafsa madrasah) and a male madrasah. The Pakistani government sieged the mosque for 8 days, having numerous gun battles in heavy, room-to-room fighting until all the defenders were killed, captured, or had surrendered.
September 21, 2007	Dover, Delaware, United States	Loyer D. Braden, 18	1 dead, 1 injured	An 18-year old Delaware State University student shot two 17-year old female students; one shooting victim, 17-year old Shalita Middleton, died from injuries sustained in the shootings 32 days later while in the hospital.
September 30, 2007	Memphis, Tennessee, United States	Devin Jefferson, 20; DaeShawn Tate, 21; Victor Trezevant, 21; Courtney Washington, 22	1 dead	A University of Memphis football player, 21-year-old Taylor Bradford, was fatally shot on campus in what was believed to be a targeted attack. Bradford was shot near his campus apartment. He then got into his car and drove a short distance before crashing into a tree where police found him dead from the gunshot wound. Bradford was rumored to have won more than $3,000 at a nearby casino the night before, which Four suspects were charged, with Jefferson being credited as the primary conspirator.
December 9, 2007	Arvada, Colorado, United States	Matthew J. Murray, 24	5 dead, 5 injured	Matthew J. Murray attacked the Youth With A Mission missionary training school in Arvada, Colorado, killing two and wounding two others. He then drove to the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado where an additional two people were killed and three people were wounded before Murray was shot by a church security guard. Murray then committed suicide. Murray had previously attended the same YWAM Missionary Center where he began his shooting spree. Murray was expelled from the school due to "strange behavior," which included playing frightening rock music and claiming to hear voices.
February 8, 2008	Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States	Latina Williams, 23	3 dead	Latina Williams, a 23-year-old nursing student, opened fire of six rounds with a .357-caliber revolver in a second-floor classroom at Louisiana Technical College, in Baton Rouge, before committing suicide. The two victims were classmates Karsheika Graves and Taneshia Butler, who were both fatally shot.
February 14, 2008	DeKalb, Illinois, United States	Steven Phillip Kazmierczak, 27	6 dead, 18 injured	Northern Illinois University shooting. 27-year-old former student Steven Kazmierczak opened fire with a shotgun and three semi-automatic handguns at Cole Hall on the campus of Northern Illinois University, in DeKalb, killing five students and wounding 17 other students and the class instructor. Kazmierczak then fatally shot himself.
March 6, 2008	Jerusalem, Israel	Alaa Abu Dhein, 26	9 dead, 11 injured	Mercaz HaRav massacre. Alaa Abu Dhein, a 26-year-old Palestinian, fired approximately 600 bullets from an AK-47 assault rifle at the Mercaz HaRav yeshiva, a religious school in the Kiryat Moshe neighborhood in Jerusalem, Israel. Eight students were killed and a further eleven were wounded. The attack ended about twenty minutes later when the gunman was shot to death by a part-time student and an officer of the Israel Defense Forces.
September 23, 2008	Kauhajoki, Finland	Matti Juhani Saari, 22	11 dead, 1 injured	Kauhajoki school shooting. 22-year-old culinary arts student Matti Saari opened fire at the Kauhajoki School of Hospitality of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, in Kauhajoki, Finland, using a semi-automatic .22-caliber Walther P22 pistol. Nine students and a teacher died in the shooting, and their bodies along with school property inside the building were set ablaze. Saari then shot himself in the head, later dying at Tampere University Hospital. It was the second school shooting to have occurred in Finland in less than a year, with the first one being the Jokela High School shooting in November 2007.
October 27, 2008	Conway, Arkansas, United States	Kawin Brockman, 19; Kelcey Perry, 19; Mario Toney, 20, and Brandon Wade, 20	2 dead, 1 injured	2008 University of Central Arkansas shootings. A shooting took place on the campus of University of Central Arkansas, in Conway, outside the Arkansas Hall dormitory. Two students—Ryan Henderson, 18, and Chavares Block, 19—were both fatally shot. A third person, a 19-year-old campus visitor, was shot and wounded in the leg.
January 21, 2009	Blacksburg, Virginia, United States	Haiyang Zhu, 25	1 dead	Yang Xin, a 22-year-old graduate student from Beijing, China, was decapitated with a kitchen knife by fellow student Zhu Haiyang, in a cafe on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). It is the second murder to have occurred on campus since April 2007, in which a 23-year-old student killed 32 people before committing suicide.
February 7, 2009	Houston, Texas, United States	Jeremy Lee Pierce, 32	1 dead	Jeremy Lee Pierce, a 32-year-old student at University of Houston, fatally shot Joe Tall, a 47-year-old homeless man, on the campus bus stop. Pierce has been charged with murder.
April 2, 2009	Radford, Virginia, United States	Phillip Eugene Beale Sr., 42; ...	1 dead	Phillip Beale and another unidentified individual murdered a drug dealer near the campus of Radford University after getting into an argument with him. Radford police arrested Beale and are seeking to identify his accomplice.
April 9, 2009	Agios Ioannis Rentis, Athens, Greece	Dimitris Patmanidis, 19	1 dead, 3 injured	OAED Vocational College shooting. Dimitris Patmanidis, a 19-year-old car electronics student at the Manpower Employment Organisation of Greece (OAED), a vocational college in the Agios Ioannis Rentis suburb of Athens, Greece, walked onto campus armed with two pistols and a knife. Patmanidis shot an 18-year-old student on a staircase three times; he was carried to Nikaia General Hospital with serious injuries. Patmanidis then confronted two pedestrians alerted by the gunfire, and shot both of them, and then fled to a park where he committed suicide. The incident of a school shooting is one of the first to ever occur in Greece.
April 10, 2009	Dearborn, Michigan, United States	Anthony Powell, 28	2 dead	28-year-old Anthony Powell fatally shot his classmate, 20-year-old Asia McGowan, before committing suicide on the campus of Henry Ford Community College.
April 26, 2009	Hampton, Virginia, United States	Odane Maye, 18	3 injured	Odane Maye, an 18-year-old former student, entered Hampton University, in eastern Virginia, while armed with three handguns. Maye stalked a pizza delivery man, who he then shot while entering Harkness Hall dormitory. Maye then entered the dormitory and shot its' manager, and then shot himself in an unsuccessful suicide attempt; both victims survived. Maye was arrested three days later after being hospitalized and was arraigned the next day on seven counts—aggravated malicious wounding and various firearms offenses.
April 28, 2009	Richmond, Virginia, United States	...	2 injured	Early on the morning of April 28, two students at Virginia Union University were stabbed. Police say the suspect, whose name has not been released, is not a VUU student.
April 30, 2009	Baku, Azerbaijan	Farda Gadirov, 29	13 dead, 10 injured	Azerbaijan State Oil Academy shootings. Farda Gadirov, a 29-year-old Georgian citizen, opened fire with a Makarov PM semi-automatic pistol at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, in Baku. Seven students and five faculty members died, another 10 were injured. Gadirov committed suicide after the attack.
May 6, 2009	Middletown, Connecticut, United States	Stephen P. Morgan, 29	1 dead	Stephen P. Morgan allegedly used a CZ-USA 9 mm semi-automatic pistol to shoot and kill 21-year-old Wesleyan University student Johanna Justin-Jinich at the off-campus bookstore where she was working. Morgan purpotedly previously had been stalking Johanna Justin-Jinich and leaving her harassing phone calls and e-mail messages (prior to her matriculation at Wesleyan when they were both attending classes at New York University). After arresting Morgan, police allegedly found a journal in Morgan’s car that supposedly stated Morgan’s plans might have been to rape and kill Johanna Justin-Jinich and then go on a killing spree at Wesleyan University.
May 18, 2009	Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States	Jabrai Jordan Copney, 20; Two other unknown perpetrators	1 dead	Justin Cosby, 21, was shot and killed inside a dormitory at Harvard University, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, by three men looking to rob him of money and drugs. Police arrested 20-year-old Jabrai Jordan Copney after the shooting. It was not clear which of the three assailants actually shot Cosby.
September 2, 2009	San Bruno, California, United States	Germaine Benjamin, 18; Dimaryea McGhee, 20; Jacori Bender, 18	1 injured	A student was shot in the abdomen and buttocks after an argument escalated between two groups of young males in the parking lot of Skyline College, in San Bruno, a suburb of San Francisco, California. The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital and the campus was subsequently placed on lockdown. Police arrested three suspects on September 3.
September 8, 2009	New Haven, Connecticut, United States	Raymond Clark, 24	1 dead	24-year-old doctoral student Annie Le was strangled to death inside a research building on the campus of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. On September 17, police arrested lab technician Raymond Clark and charged him with murder.
October 8, 2009	Los Angeles, California, United States	Damon Thompson, 20	1 injured	A 20-year-old female student of a chemistry laboratory at the University of California, Los Angeles was stabbed multiple times, including having her throat slashed, during class. A teaching assistant stopped the bleeding and called for help. The victim was transported to the hospital and needed surgery but was expected to recover. Police arrested Damon Thompson after the attack.
October 18, 2009	Storrs, Connecticut, United States	John William Lomax III, 21	1 dead	Jasper Howard, a 20-year-old cornerback for the UConn Huskies, was stabbed to death on the campus of the University of Connecticut, outside the Student Union Center where an on-campus dance was held to celebrate the Huskies’ homecoming victory over the Louisville Cardinals. On October 21, police arrested John William Lomax III, 21, and charged him with murder. Three other men were also arrested in connection with the murder.
November 26, 2009	Pécs, Hungary	..., 23	1 dead, 3 injured	A 23-year-old pharmacology student at the University of Pécs opened fire inside the biophysics research institute at the university. A 19-year-old student was killed and a student, a teacher and a cleaning woman were wounded in the shooting. The gunman was arrested by police about one hour after the attack.
December 4, 2009	Vestal, New York, United States	Abdulsalam S. al-Zahrani, 46	1 dead	Richard T. Antoun, 77, a professor of anthropology and specialist in Islamic and Middle Eastern studies, is stabbed to death inside his office at Binghamton University. Police arrested 46-year-old graduate student Abdulsalam S. al-Zahrani after the stabbing and charged him with second-degree murder.
January 13, 2010	Perpignan, France	..., 26	1 dead, 3 injured	A 26-year-old Chinese sociology student killed a secretary and wounded three teachers with a knife at the University of Perpignan. The student, who was said to have been treated for behavioural problems previously, was arrested by police.
February 12, 2010	Huntsville, Alabama, United States	Amy Bishop, 44	3 dead, 3 injured	University of Alabama in Huntsville shooting. Amy Bishop, a biology professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, shot six faculty members at a faculty meeting. Three professors died in the shooting. Bishop was arrested after the shooting and charged with capital murder.
February 19, 2010	DeKalb, Illinois, United States	Zach R. Isaacman, 22	1 injured	Following an argument outside of Stevenson Towers North at Northern Illinois University, an off campus student shot and injured a resident of Stevenson North. 22-year-old Zach R. Isaacman was arrested after the shooting. This was the second shooting to occur on the NIU campus since February 2008, when a 27-year-old former student killed five people before committing suicide.

October 12, 1992	Lincoln, Nebraska, United States	A 43-year old graduate student, Arthur McElroy, walked into an actuarial science class at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and attempted to open fire on about 20 students with a .30-caliber, M-1 carbine. As students reacted by hitting the floor and pulling desks over their heads in anticipation, the gun jammed, and McElroy was apprehended. A court later found McElroy insane. He was taken to the Lincoln Regional Center's Forensic Mental Services unit in December 1992 and is still there as of 2009.
May 1999	Port Huron, Michigan, United States	A 12-year-old, 13-year-old and two 14-year-olds, all boys, planned to outdo Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold at Holland Woods Middle School. They planned to hold up a gun store and then attack the school. Once there, they planned to rape some of the girls and shoot as many as 154 targets which they had drawn up on a list. They had stolen a building plan from the custodian's office but they were all caught within a day of a classmate's report to an assistant principal.
January 30, 2001	Cupertino, California, United States	De Anza College student Al DeGuzman planned a Columbine style school shooting at the school. An employee at a Longs Drugs store developed pictures of DeGuzman posing with his guns and homemade bombs. She and a coworker called police. DeGuzman was arrested when he returned for his photos. Police found Deguzman's bedroom stacked from top to bottom with sophisticated handmade bombs and a map of De Anza College, marked with locations where bombs would be placed. [9] In October, 2002, DeGuzman was sentenced to seven years in state prison. He later committed suicide by hanging himself in his jail cell.
February 14, 2001	Elmira, New York, United States	Jeremy Getman, 18, planned a school attack at Southside High School but it was foiled after students told a teacher that he was carrying weapons. He carried 14 pipe bombs, three smaller bombs, a propane tank, a sawed-off shotgun, and a .22 caliber pistol into the school by a duffel bag and also a book bag full of ammunition. On December 17, 2001, he was sentenced to 8 1/2 years.
March 16, 2004	Malcolm, Nebraska, United States	17-year-old Joshua Magee was arrested in the parking lot of Malcolm High School after a school staff member, who saw the youth drinking liquor and putting on a black overcoat, called police. A search of Magee's car produced a bolt-action rifle, 20 bombs and a note stating the he wanted to injure everyone at the school except for three friends. Magee, to whom school paid close attention after it was reported to faculty that he was experimenting with explosives at home, was charged with attempted murder.
October 11, 2007	Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, United States	14-year-old Dillon Cossey was arrested at his home in Plymouth Meeting after a friend told police about his plan to carry out a Columbine style attack on Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. After a police-conducted search of the Cossey residence, officers found a 9 mm Hi-Point Carbine(which he named "Reb" in honor of Eric Harris), over 30 airsoft guns, a dozen knives and swords, 7 homemade explosives(4 which were live), a copy of The Anarchist Cookbook, and several movies about the Columbine High School Massacre. A .22 rifle and a .22 pistol, which Cossey lent to his friend for safe-keeping, were also recovered by authourities. Even on Cossey's MySpace page, he discussed his admiration for the bank robbers of the North Hollywood shootout as well as for Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, the Columbine gunmen. In his trial, Cossey confessed that he was going to carry out his shooting to kill the people who had relentlessly bullied him in elementary and middle school. Bullying led his parents to pull him out of public school at the end of his 7th grade year and home-school him. It was later found that he also had contact with Pekka-Eric Auvinen, the perpetrator of the Jokela school shooting, though Cossey apparently had no knowledge of Auvinen's plans. Cossey is currently serving time in juvenile detention and could possibly stay until the age of 21. His mother, Michelle Cossey, faced charges for purchasing the weapons and other charges regarding the welfare of her son.
November 28, 2007	LaGrange, New York, United States	State police arrested two 16-year-old Poughquag students - Patrick Quigley and Joseph Saia – and a 15-year-old student after investigating a threat posted on a MySpace page. The three teens were charged with fourth-degree conspiracy, a felony. The Web page described events to take place at Arlington High School on April 20, 2010, the 11th anniversary of the attack on Columbine High School, police said.
June 4, 2008	Mishawaka, Indiana, United States	A 16-year old boy was arrested after notebook retrieved from his locker at Penn High School stated "I wanna break the current shooting record. I wanna get instant recognition." He and a 33 year old possible accomplice, Lee Billi, were charged with conspiracy. Trials Pending.
December 4, 2008	Pottstown, Pennsylvania, United States	15-year-old Richard Yanis was arrested for plotting a school shooting at Pottstown High School after his father reported to police three missing handguns. An investigation revealed that Yanis had stolen the guns from his father and put them into a duffelbag, which he handed to a friend with the words to "hold onto it". After checking the bag Yanis' friend told his mother of the weapons, who then forced him to get rid of them by throwing them into a river. After his arrest Yanis admitted that he had planned to shoot people at his school he didn't like, before committing suicide.
March 11, 2009	Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, United States	An eighth grade student who attended St. Andrew School in Drexel Hill was arrested after a fellow pupil he attempted to recruit for an attack tipped off authorities. The suspect was then pulled from class and later arrested. Shortly after, two airsoft pistols were found in his backpack, one of them looking very much like a real gun. The plan of the 13-year-old student was to force the school in lock down and shoot anybody who tried to escape. He is charged with terroristic threats and reckless endangerment and is currently held in juvenille detention. He is also charged with burglary for stealing $370 from another school in Drexel Hill on the previous weekend. It is noted that the suspect has a history of mental illness.
October 21, 2009	Monroe, New York, United States	A 15-year-old boy from Monroe was already on juvenile probation when he broke down crying, police said Tuesday night, as he admitted he stockpiled bottles of gasoline, makeshift fuses, a torch, a 2-foot machete and three tanks of propane in a plot to attack former fellow students at Monroe-Woodbury High School.
November 17, 2009	Beauvais, France	A 13-year-old boy, who was said to have had difficulties at his school, was arrested in Beauvais, accused of having planned to shoot his teachers. His parents had called police after they found their son acting strangely and a gun missing. When the boy, armed with a hunting rifle and 25 cartridges, arrived at the school it was already surrounded by police, so he dropped his plans, left the rifle in a field and went to an internet café in the city. That day a parent-teacher meeting was scheduled to discuss his future at the school, and it was suspected that he wanted to prevent this meeting from taking place. He apparently also wrote in a blog the evening before that this was the last day in his life.
