This article has outdated and possibly biased information about the economic conditions on the island and in the Bahamas in general. For one, the claim in the article that the whole island has only "one 23 room resort" is completely untrue: there are dozens of hotels of all types. Update needed!

This is directly contradiction, "The original population of Taino, or Arawaks, was mostly deported by the Spanish to work in the mines of Hispaniola, where they died out by 1550. The island is believed to have been unoccupied until the first European settlers—puritan pilgrims- arrived in 1648 from Bermuda." Rfhickey 03:42, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bad link for Rock Sound ... --67.170.215.194 13:27, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As previously noted, article is outdated with regard to current commercial development. If the article is to include information about commercial development, it should be generalized rather than mention just a few specific developments which would otherwise be viewed as veiled promotion. I lived on Eleuthera for a year (1989). The Cotton Bay Club was flourishing under the management of Ron Lindemann. Other Hotels were The Winding Bay Club and Pineapple Island. The most beautiful place was Lighthouse Point on the very southern most tip of the island, sadly the beaches there were littered with tar and flotsam and jettsam. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.152.210.194 (talk) 19:37, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Given the various pages related to the Bahamas Islands, I question whether the information regarding the NAVFAC and military information really belongs there. The facility has been abandoned for decades and plays no part in infrastructure of the island. If anyone else agrees or disagrees, please leave a post. If no one replies in the next 90 days, I would consider removing the section myself and describe the changes as "removed irrelevant content". SurfsUp (talk) 23:20, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The only reason I looked up Eleuthera was for the history, more to the point, the military bases that were located there. Please do not remove these facts.
