Spelling
Shouldn't it be correctly spelled "open mic"? It's short for microphone. "Mike" is a misspelling unless you're referring the short version of Michael. 71.114.211.169 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 01:04, 6 October 2009 (UTC).
- The short form of "bicycle" is not spelled "bic". 68.33.168.195 (talk) 10:46, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

THIS PAGE SHOULD BE CHNANGED TO 'Open Mic' with all links to 'Open MIKE' pointing to it. 'OPEN MIKE' means NOTHING. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.65.57.98 (talk) 05:59, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Agreed... "mic" is short for "microphone"... this is the only place I've seen it spelled "mike"... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.230.77.120 (talk) 16:01, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

Open mike → Open mic — Correct name should be used - "mike" is a common misspelling, but "mic" is still prevalent. Consensus above on talk page. Relisted Jafeluv (talk) 08:28, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

- Strong oppose it is not a misspelling, it is the short form name for microphone, "mic." is the abbreviation. 76.66.192.15 (talk) 05:03, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- "Mic." is an abbreviation but that's not the proposed target here. "Mike" is a short form of microphone just like "nuke" for nuclear. Also note openmikes.org. — AjaxSmack 02:30, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
I hadn't seen it written as "open mike" in any serious context previous to this, but then it might just be a regional thing. Some evidence does seem to support that both spellings are acceptable. Perhaps there should at least be some form of disambiguation page or the title could be "Open Mic/Mike Night". Just trying to fill in what cracks I can. (talk) 04:02, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Support. Mic=short for microphone. Mike≠short for microphone. Vegaswikian (talk) 00:39, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
- oppose -- Mike is short for microphone. Check a dictionary. You say Coke, not Cok (for Coca Cola); nuke, not nuc (for nuclear); Mike, not Mic (for Michael); bike, not bic (for bicycle); cuke, not cuc (for cucumber). 69.159.2.230 (talk) 01:11, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
- Support - MIC is short for Microphone. Mike is acceptable for Micheal, because that is a similar name and common nickname, but Mic is the common shorthand for Microphone. Also, don't you call a singular cucumber, a cucumber? --PatM518 (talk) 03:40, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
