Aalmi Tablighi Ijtema (World preachers congregation)is an annual 3 day congregation held in Bhopal in the month of December. It is the third biggest annual congregation after Hajj[1] . Half a million people travel from all over the world gather in Bhopal for 3 days to talk about faith and peace.

History

The first ijtema was organised in 1949 at Masjid shakoor khan in old walled city[2] [3] . Later on when it gained popularity venue was changed to Taj-ul-masajid (Asia's biggest mosque then).Since 2005 because of the heavy crowd the venue is shifted to Ghasipura 11 km from Bhopal.[4][5]

Activities

Ijtema held on Saturday Sunday and Monday every year in December. Jamaats from around the world start to gather here on friday itself. The congregation begins with Fajr salah on Saturday morning followed by a series of lectures from different Muslim scholars and clerics. A break is given in between after dhuhr namaz[6] . Then it continued like it for Sunday and concludes with final prayers on Monday afternoon. Mass marriages also takes place on Saturday and Sunday. Scholars talks on different subjects and address farmers,students,traders on topics varying from Islamic way of life to Six Principles.After the final prayer Jamaats are formed which then travel around the world to preach a about Islam. About a Million people gather here for Final prayers and half a million stay on Ijtema ground for 3 days. People from different societies even religion comes here to listen to peace talks and to learn about Islam. Government of Madhya pradesh provides electricity, water supply and security along with parking places for the convenience of Jamaats. Jamaats from different parts of the world as far as from west also attend this congregation. Translators for people from foreign countries, and translators for deaf and dumb are also provided by Ijtema committee.[3]

Security

Security measures are taken care by MP Police, along with volunteers who monitors all over Pandals that were setup to accommodate people, Closed circuit video monitoring is also installed at various parking spots and all over the way to pandals. RAF personnel's are deployed to take care if any emergency occurs.[3]
