Image permission

Regarding your recently suggested deletion: File:76846 Eda Nemoede Casterton bio.jpg. Sorry, I have not been on Wiki for several years, so my code is rusty, but this is a family picture, uploaded by me and held by my family. It seems the copyright is fairly clear as you pointed out, so I'm not sure why you singled this out for deletion. I hereby give my permission to upload my own family picture. Nemoede

Talkback

Hello, Kelly. You have new messages at Sleddog116's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

File:Thomas Fielding Johnson Portrait.jpg

Hi Kelly. A month or so ago you recommended the image Thomas Fielding Johnson Portrait.jpg for deletion on the grounds that its copyright status was unclear. It is a photograph of a man (Thomas Fielding Johnson) who died in 1921. It must therefore be at least 90 years old. Doesn't that mean that it is out of copyright and no further information should be needed? I'd be grateful if you could advise and, if appropriate, please restore it. Thanks. File:Burtblumert.jpg

Hi Kelly, the license for republication conditioned on attribution was noted on the source website, but this notice has been removed. I can either verify on the file page that this license was in place on the day that the image was uploaded to Wikipedia, or I can get a permissions statement submitted to the OTRS folks. Which do you think is the best way to square away this image's issues? DickClarkMises (talk) 15:10, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS would definitely be the way to go to avoid future issues. Kelly hi! 15:12, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've asked the copyright holder to submit a permissions statement and he has agreed to do so. I'll add the pending template to the file page. DickClarkMises (talk) 15:33, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bug/Glitch

Hi Kelly,

I think your last edit to Wikipedia:Files for deletion/2012 March 21 had a glitch in it. It doesn't seem to be what you meant to do; you didn't add the new entry, and removed a whole bunch of other entries. I restored the entries, but can't re-add yours because I don't know what your rationale was going to be. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:01, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like something weird happened with Twinkle. I had already added that file earlier. Thanks for fixing that! Kelly hi! 22:02, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:04, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request clarification

Hi Kelly. I was hoping you could better explain why File:Christopher Columbus by Vittori.jpg was speedily deleted? I thought that the date of the work made it fair game. Because it's already been deleted I cannot see any sort of discussion surrounding the image. Understanding this decision will help me (and those I assist) with future uploads. Best, LoriLee (talk) 18:22, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't remember for certain - I think it might have been a Flickr image under a noncommercial license. (I have been moving Flickr-sourced images over to Commons since yesterday.) I would check with the deleting administrator (or any admin who can look at deleted revs) to find out for sure. Kelly hi! 18:28, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Eddie Murphy photo

File:EddieMurphy-KodakTheatre.jpg has been nominated for speedy deletion; personally I uploaded that image long ago so I wouldn't care if it was deleted. But I did not try to infringe on its copyright in any sense. Like Wikipedia I too take copyright extremely seriously. And still to his date the original link to the photo on Flickr remains the same; author only asks for attribution and non-derivative works. As you can see on its original page and on the creative commons license page. I attributed him in the image page and didn't modify the image at all. Please reply on user talk:Squishy Vic. Thanks. 97.90.17.119 (talk) 20:42, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re:British Museum Barnstar

I removed the speedy deletion template. It doesn't look copyrightable to me since it doesn't meet the threshold of originality. It is, after all, just a barnstar on Wikipedia. Do any other Wikipedia barnstars have OTRS forms filed on them? Should we delete all the ones that don't have OTRS forms? In any case, this is clearly not your usual speedy. Put it up for regular deletion if you must. Smallbones (talk) 22:15, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So do you mean that File:BritishMuseum-barnstar.png should be tagged as {{PD-ineligible-USonly|the United Kingdom}}? I'm doubting this and think that {{di-no permission}} looks more appropriate. It looks sufficiently creative to me. Other barnstars appear to have evidence of permission so OTRS isn't needed for those. --Stefan2 (talk) 22:35, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

NPD tagging for File:TanzanianCheetah.jpg

I noticed that File:TanzanianCheetah.jpg was tagged as not showing sufficient permission. I actually nominated this image as possibly non-free, since the original Flickr site, which I assume you saw, says "All rights reserved". However, the photo was uploaded via everystockphoto.com, which pulls PD and CC images from Flickr, and at the time it was uploaded to everystockphoto, the Flickr license was still free enough for Wikipedia (or so I assume). Unfortunately, the problem is that the image seems to have disappeared from everystockphoto, but I can assure you that at the time of the PUF discussion, the license there was valid.

Now, I doubt that the Flickr user will be willing to send a permission, considering he changed the license to All Rights Reserved, but the PUF discussion should be enough evidence that the image was, at one point, free to be modified and used commercially? --Mosmof (talk) 22:55, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File:Sèvres-Lecourbe217.jpg

Hi, My photograph [ File:Sèvres-Lecourbe217.jpg ] was tagged for possible deletion. The notes given seem to imply that the photo might have been taken by someone else, but I am most definitely the author of the photo. I do not understand the instructions on removing the deletion flags or adding permissions. The help pages are completely baffling. The deletion information also seems to be related to the fact that I posted the photo on Flickr prior to publishing it on Wikipedia. I have now adjusted the licensing on Flickr [ http://www.flickr.com/photos/mathteacherguy/886496269/ ] to reflect creative commons. Please let me know if there is anything more that I must do when I upload photos I have created that will prevent having them flagged for future deletion. -Gerald Hawkins
