Coalgate scam is a ₹186,000 crore (US$22 billion) coal mining scandal that has exposed the ugly underside of Indian politics and economic life. This scam along with [spectrum scam] [[1]] are two of the largest scams in India's post independence history. The most infamous scam in India in last sixty years, the Bofors scam , where the alleged payoff was ₹64 crore (US$7.7 million), would have been a baby scam by current standards.
