Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Stanislao Avogadro (talk) 19:26, 12 May 2013 (UTC) It appears that one Holocaust denier is constantly editing the article to suggest that the brand name of cyanide in question was used to control typhoid fever.[reply]

Semi-protected I've given it a month. Casliber (talk · contribs)

I’m not sure which type of protection to ask for, and I’ll leave that up to the administrator who reads the request. This article has received an influx of edits, from IPs and from users with few edits, regarding recent information that has proliferated in the news. The lead, prior these edits, was developed on the talk page. We are having a discussion now about how to update it given the new information, and in the meantime, we would like to stop POV edits that are occurring. It isn’t possible to revert these changes, as there are too many of them. This is the last version of the article without these POV edits, and prior to my inability to continue reversions. RGloucester (talk) 15:38, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is getting worse as time goes on. I'm rather powerless. RGloucester (talk) 20:29, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected I've semi'ed it so that people can get accounts so they can argue more coherently on the talk page. I don't mind if someone else revisits the semiprotection if progress is made. Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:06, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Declined, As this has never happened before, what's the need? ~ Amory (utc) 22:55, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's needed because this is to inform others of my whereabouts and how swiftly their queries will be replied to, and if I have a bunch of random users and IP's constantly changing it, it messes it up. Temporary Full Protection. Potentially politically-motivated vandalism committed by a user "Carbonpenguin" to the Bank Transfer Day page. One claim is made without citation ("The location of the Facebook event was initially set as 'Occupy Wall St.,'"), and I could not independently locate any references on the Internet validating this assertion. The next assertion ("Occupy Wall Street participants supported the effort") is claimed to be backed by a reference pointing to the Salt Lake Tribune, but this reference does not make any mention of this assertion in the article body. Importantly, the user added text referencing Occupy Vermont, and the name "Carbonpenguin" is also used by a YouTube account associated directly with the Occupy Vermont movement, rendering the recent edits in violation of Wikipedia terms of use on partiality. If another established and independent wikipedia user can find justified citations for the assertions with links e.g. Wayback Machine or assertions which have not already been disavowed, then the references should be re-included. However, since there's no reference that I could find and since the assertion has no reference listed, I've reverted the changes manually.

As this may have something to do with an event hosted by the Consumer Cooperative Management Association on June 6-8, I'm requesting protection through June 15. Eganist (talk) 02:47, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is a link to my reverts so that any subsequent changes don't accidentally get locked in. Eganist (talk) 02:50, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: After reading the different levels of protection, Pending changes level 2 appears to be less strict while still adequately protecting the page (allowing a reviewer to add or confirm changes after properly validating changes). This level of protection may also be sufficient, though full protection would be less prone to error and might let whatever this is blow over with some time. Eganist (talk) 13:09, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. No evidence of edit warring on that page, just bold editing and one revert. You may also like to read WP:OUTING. -Nathan Johnson (talk) 13:46, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Read it after making the edit but before this reply, and I'm actually rather surprised I haven't seen the change re-committed. Perhaps that's a good thing. Thanks for looking into it though. Eganist (talk) 18:40, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum: Pointing out a conflict of interest doesn't appear to fit the terms of WP:OUTING. Perhaps you meant Wikipedia:Assume_good_faith#Accusing_others_of_bad_faith instead? I'd assume in limited circumstances when WP:CONFLICT is present, it's justified to include it in the notes of an edit when reverting. OSINT (which is what googling a username is) is not "doxing" or WP:OUTING as I understand it. Eganist (talk) 18:51, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Edits by non-autoconfirmed accounted are nearly all blatant POV-pushing or vandalism. No significant constructive editing from such accounts at least as far back as last year. The Devil's Advocate tlk. cntrb. 05:40, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – More vandalism after protection period ended. Frankly, the IPs have forfeited the privilege to edit this page permanently, IMO. AutomaticStrikeout (TCSign AAPT) 23:25, 10 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Question: Aren't IP edits like this in fact constructive? I dont think it's all vandalism... Legoktm (talk) 01:19, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. Most of the IP contributions appear to be constructive. It doesn't look like protection would be beneficial to this page. Mike VTalk 16:39, 10 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Over the course of the past weeks, an dynamic IP continues to insert huge amounts of highly dubious original research into this article. While the IP appears to be acting mostly in good faith, there are also edits which can be seen as vandalism - in either case, most edits are not helpful at all in regard to the article. I cleaned up the article after the editor several times, and assuming good faith I always tried to keep as much of his contributions alive in the hope that he would provide sources later on. I tried to explain in edit summaries and on the always changing talk pages why he needs to provide sources (and even gave examples how to provide them in case he doesn't know how) and why certain edits (illogical statements, phantasy words, conflicts with our style-guides) cannot stay at all, and I invited him to create an account, but he seems to make fun of it and continues to add questionable and non-English stuff. Since I don't want to edit-war and my attempts to discuss and help have been fruitless, I think the page should be semi-protected (and ideally cleaned up by someone uninvolved). --Matthiaspaul (talk) 15:59, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Permanent semi-protection preferred, but temporary will suffice. This is the fourth request that I have made for semiprotection of this article. For context, Rahul is a common name in India. Since its last unprotection in March, there have been ~18 IP edits adding non-notable, redlinked names to the article, 16 reverts of same, and a small number of other edits. This is no different from the last several times it became unprotected. Here are the past protection requests:

I understand that permanent semiprotection is serious business and will not be concerned with a lesser term...but I remain firmly convinced that permanent is the only thing that will fix the problem. -- stillnotelf is invisible 18:06, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection Edit warriors it seems cannot agree on diarrhea/diarrhoea and IPs and throwaway accounts are involved. Semi-protection would force the editors to at least use confirmed accounts. Meanwhile lots of IPs and throwaways make scatological jokes all over the place. The spelling war may die down, but the poop jokes likely won't, so I advocate indefinite semi-protection. Maybe a full lockdown for a while for the spelling war to blow over; I doubt much more needs to be added about stool consistency.Anon423 (talk) 09:43, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection. Persistent vandalism, as it seems people continually advertise escort services here by adding phone numbers, links to websites, etc. The page is being treated like a bathroom stall. It seems most of the edits in the history of that page are of this type of graffiti-style "for a good time call 555-5555", or reversions of such. The problem seems to be coming from multiple people and as such will not go away in time. A quick look at the history reveals added and removed adverts for prostitutes in Vegas, Texas, Newcastle, and various other places. Other edits are simply vandalism, such as removing paragraphs and sections for no reason at all, or even more obviously by cutting off a section mid-sentence.
