Proposed merger with Sachin. Dev Burman

Sachin. Dev Burman was created by an anon ip and doesn't have much usable information. I doubt if it can be retained even as a re-direct. However, I'll wait till the 19th of January 2006 for comments before carrying out the merger. --Gurubrahma 18:08, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Early days

The first line in this section says : S D Burman was born in Comilla, Bengal (now in Tripura) in British India. , but Comilla is in Bangladesh now. Tintin (talk) 10:32, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bengali???

I dont mind his name in Bengali, but he is Tripuri and not Bengali, so I'm thinking a few cats should go sayonara. Perhaps we need a Kokborok translation.Bakaman Bakatalk 01:32, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree ... he is from Tripuri royal family. Of course, what language was spoken there? Tripura overlaps into the Comilla region so much that there is a good chance of Bangla being spoken. In any case, the ethnic category should be checked and verified, and set accordingly. --Ragib 02:07, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, I think translations are useless on English wikipedia, except in rare cases (OK, OK, let's not start a war...). As far as I know, Sachin da's mother tongue was Bengali, though he hailed from Tripura. As you can see at Tripura#Culture, 70% of Tripuris are Bengalis and Manipuris. Bengali is one of the major languages there. Is Kokborok the official language of Tripura state or something? In that case, we can have a Kokborok translation too (for eg. on Rajnikanth page, we've multiple translations). utcursch | talk 13:16, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sachin Dev Burman spoke Bengali and contributed more to folk music from Bengal of the time than (arguably) anyone else. His contributions with singer Abbasuddin Ahmed are considered legendary. The article in its present state reflects a Hindicentric attitiude which I will endeavor to rectify soon; in the meantime there is no evidence that Sachin Dev identified with the tribals, spoke Kokborok, or spoke in the language to his son, R.D. I do not think Kokborok was the official language of the time (if it is now, it is a recent acquisition). --Antorjal 03:55, 27 September 2006 (UTC) The importance of writing within an encyclopedia didn't get lost on me... Kokborok is indeed an official language of Tripura since 1979 per the Kokborok page. No objections to his name in that language. --Antorjal 04:02, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK then, anybody knows Kokborok? utcursch | talk 13:30, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There is a user or users who do. I will find them. They ususally have names ending in (debbarma and the like). To clarify I'm not removing the Bengali translation, I'm just staing he isn't Bengali so the Bengali people cat doesnt work here.Bakaman Bakatalk 02:56, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha... sorry I misunderstood. --Antorjal 04:38, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Updated links above. The quotes are needed for accurate results. "Sachin Dev Burman" without quotes shows links with S D Burman also. --Redtigerxyz Talk 11:24, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Moved S. D. Burman to Sachin Dev Burman

Saw the discussion about popular name, where subject person is known bu his full name "Sachin Dev Burman", alternatively a redirection is added from Short name S. D.Burman Bheemsinh (talk) 03:01, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • It has been observed that some edit war is going on naming the article title. As per WP:COMMON-NAME policy, subject is strongly referred by his full name rather then short name. please do not revert it. Bheemsinh (talk) 06:28, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Move to article to Full Name

As Previous discussed and Google ngram viewer, the trends for Sachin Dev Burman vs S. D. Burman Search[1] shows equally potential and strong identity of person as Sachin Dev Burman, Wrongly it is placed under abbreviation. can any admin help to move it to its most common name. Bheemsinh (talk) 02:50, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You were WP:BOLD and you made a change. Then the changes were reverted, the next step was discussion via WP:RM (Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle). If there was a consensus next month that the article be moved. Please start a WP:RM discussion. --Redtigerxyz Talk 18:42, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Move? 2

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was moved. The previous RM should not have been reversed without first building consensus. ---BDD (talk) 23:12, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

– A recent move discussion on Talk:Sachin_Dev_Burman#Requested_move 1 was reverted by an user by copy paste move and then an admin reverted it, which the user again reveted without a discussion. Redtigerxyz Talk 15:44, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Speedy procedural revert as an endrun around a previously established consensus without creating a new RM discussion or requesting an MRV. The person flipping the pages around should put in a proper request. -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 04:51, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oops. Corrected. --Redtigerxyz Talk 04:55, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Requested Move #3

S. D. BurmanSachin Dev Burman – "Sachin Dev Burman" is known by his full name only among his fans and music lovers. His son Rahul Dev Burman known by his initialised name RD Burman. in earlier discussion I've provided ngram data where it shows that on taking average, popularity of the person as Sachin Dev Burman is taking leap to initialized name. some of the editors have their prefixed mindset, lacking knowledge of the subject try to map name with his son's name and producing regent google search ngram data to prove that point. Discussion

Google Trends says: Google trends shows only Sachin Dev Burman, not S. D. Burman. a comperative Search results [1]
Wrong Trend results as . is included in name, which generally not put in a search result. [2]. S D Burman is clearly much popular. --Redtigerxyz Talk 04:37, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Google ngram: shows results till 2008 only. Bheemsinh (talk) 02:03, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
