California Chrome (foaled February 18, 2011 in California)[1] is an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 2014 San Felipe Stakes by 7 1/4 lengths under jockey Victor Espinoza, and hence viewed as a contender in the 2014 Kentucky Derby.[2] Chrome also won the 2014 California Cup Derby by 5 1/2 lengths).[3] He was the final stakes winner at Hollywood Park Racetrack, winning the King Glorious Stakes for 2-year-old California Thoroughbreds by 5 1/2 lengths.[3]

California Chrome was sired by Lucky Pulpit out of Love the Chase by Not for Love and foaled at Harris Farms in California. The colt was schooled at Harris Farms by Per Antonsen and trained in southern California by Art Sherman.[4]

If California Chrome wins the 140th Kentucky Derby, he will become only the 4th Califonia-bred horse to win the Kentucky Derby, and the first since Decidedly in 1962.[citation needed]
